I have 9 various Modern and Classic Suhr’s so I’m definitely bias but I’ve also tried them all including the ones (same models) in this video and landed on Suhr. Honestly, tone wise they all sound incredible, it comes down to playability, feel, fit and finish, cosmetics and value for me.

The Ibanez AZ sounded amazing! I'm happy to have pickuped that guitar. For a fraction of the price of the Suhr and Charvel GG. It really holds it's own :)

What a nice treat. Thanks for that. Suhr (ownership bias 😊) EDIT: You absolutely need to try TI Jazz Swings 11-47, for some of those great jazzy clean tones I'm hearing there. Bright & not your typical flats sound . Round core so crimp the ends after stringing thru the posts before snipping.

What would you consider a 'beefy' neck? I was hoping to buy an AZ this year, i haven't gotten a chance to play one but i tried the Charvel DK24 and i found those necks horribly wide and a little bit too thin for my preference🙏🙏
@CarlGonzalesGuitar10 ай бұрын
I have the same blue AZ model. I can confirm that the neck is beefy but still very comfortable :)
@LucasMessore10 ай бұрын
the Ibanez AZ neck profile is a D shape and it's thicker than the charvel and suhr modern shapes. It took me some time to get used to but it's great! It's not 'beefy' by vintage/fender baseball bat neck standards, but for a "shred/metal/modern" player it will be slightly thicker than you'd expect. Get it!

What pickups are in the Suhr? SSV/SSH+ ?

The Suhr sounded the best. Full and rounded with pleasant highs. The others sounded kind of flat and "cheap" The Ibanez still o.k., but the Govan was a big dissapointment.

I feel the AZ has cool in between sounds but lacks on neck and bridge position, especially kind of harsh treble on bridge

surprised by the Ibanez AZ

The three guitars are great. I can see why people like the Suhr better. It’s probably the best but the AZ sounded more modern to my ears. The pickups made a huge difference in the types of clean produced on the video. A bit more percussive and louder in the AZ.
@LucasMessore10 ай бұрын
Perhaps the suhr sounded most open and has a nice chewyness. The ibanez is definitely more modern sounding and super hot pickups. But all were pretty hot. But the ibanez neck is pretty thick compared to the suhr!
@pepeowen10 ай бұрын
@@LucasMessore definitely different characters. The Suhr had a bit of warmth about it and the Ibanez was way sharper and sounded more "fishman-like" (if that's a thing). More transparent and hi-fi but they do sound loud. I liked both and it's great they have these differential tones.
@LucasMessore10 ай бұрын
@@pepeowen I know what you mean but having compared the AZ to various guitars with Fishmans - not anything like fishman IMO. Way better. It has much more dynamics, spongy chewiness in the mids. Coil taps and splits are way better. Fishmans have that cold sound with no dynamics and upper mids bump (which does cut in aggressive metal mix) but sounds too clanky for everything else. The AZ has enough output to be really punchy but not over the top like actives.

@@LucasMessore I agree and disagree. They are different beasts but the Hyperion's and Fishman conform to the same modern sound, with different outcomes. I personally like the clarity of the Hyperions, although they seem to be much maligned in many corners of the internet I find them exceptional. But what I like the most about them is their very unique trademark modern sound, I find it hard to describe but percussive is one of the words that keeps coming to me. I would still add a Suhr to my collection, I feel they are different but complimentary sounds.

Compare these guitars to a Fusion III by Harley Benton and let the crowd decide if it's worth it to spend upwards of 3 times as much than a HB

Yes!!!!!! I love my AZ, but I will definitely get a HB F 2 or 3. Undecided. I've been saying it for years: what you get for the price is unbeatable (@lucasmessore just in case, the Fusions are around $400 USD!)

I got my Fusion 3 Plek'd. I don't think there will be much in it between that and one of these, apart from the fancy wood look.

The Charvel was disappointing, especially for a guitar of that price range. The Suhr was ok compared to the Charvel. However, The Ibanez is the winner here, hands down.
