I have two dogs. One is able to solve all the "puzzle toys" very quickly. The other stands there and waits for the one dog to do it and then take the treats. Not sure which one is smarter.

My cats would dislike doing all of those things (except for string), and I’d probably get scratched a bunch by newest cat ,that I got from someone else, if I tried to pick them up to do those, and if I did manage to, I’d also get scratched. He’s also big and weighs around 17 pounds, and I am small so it’s really hard to pick him up, even for my mom (She can pick him up but it’s easier to for her than for me, and if she tries to hold him for too long, her arms starts to hurt from how heavy he is).

My cat was deffinatly a genius. I have so many stories of her that prove this lol. My favorite is how, she was an outsidd cat, so she would wonder a lot. One time she disappeared on us for around 2 to 3 weeks and came back meowimg with two callors on (a normal callor and a flea callor) she knew exactly where her home was. And when we moved she figured out her surroundings in just a few days. She was also a excellent hunter. She sadly passed away last year, but I remember her like it was yesturday. May she rest in peace :)

My kitty is nine years old and knows multiple tricks that she’s learned from when she was younger and is pretty well trained. She knows Sit, Kisses, C’mere, Eat time, Treats, I love you and various signals; for example, when I Pat my side twice she knows to follow me and when I rub my fingers together she knows to follow my fingers with her gaze because I’m going to lead her attention to an object. She then knows to check out that object. Couldn’t have asked for a better cat! Edit: She also will FaceTime my boyfriend. One time I magnified her screen so she could stare at herself (she’s very vain) and then minimized it to the corner of the screen. Instead of looking at my boyfriend she looked at herself in the little box in the corner.

The mirror test in #2 is to see if the animals realize it's them. You put them in front of a mirror and add a dot to their heads. If they try to remove the dot on themselves, then they recognize themselves. Donno how helpful that would be.

Maybe they just aren’t bothered by the dot on their head.... Look at these cats, refusing to give the pet human the satisfaction of reacting to a bunch of string put on their heads. “Ignore it and they will go away.” I have actually heard of at least cat reported to use a mirror to see when her pet human was coming near and reacting accordingly. There may have been a YiuTube video proving it. But cats also have plenty of other ways to know what we are doing and where we are, we are the ones who have deficient senses in this regard. That’s why they look so surprised when we step on them without realizing they are there, when to them they did the equivalent of stomping into the bathroom yelling. They do realize the difference between deliberate attack and accident, fortunately.

A few stories abt a Maine coon I had for 16 yrs. 1. I used to give her 3 treats when I got from work every night. But my mom after I moved back in with her after an auto accident noticed something: she was totally eager for the first two treats, bus while I was fishing out the 3rd treat, she got a grumpy look.on her face and laid her ears back. OFC she still got the treat, but knew it would be the last that night. Mom said, "She can count!" 2. She learned early on that cats in mirrors weren't real. Until we moved into our new house and had stuff in boxes stacked in living room. One unboxed item was a Cheval mirror, which has an independent stand and ROTATES so it can face either direction, or face up or down. Some of the boxes were stored under the mirrorwhere we had itvrotated facing down bc storage space was dead. Miss Brat being cat always, of course, explored the stacks of boxes like they were her personal jungle gym. Then she got onto the boxes UNDER the mirror, looked around where to go next, and was so startled by the cat in the mirror ABOVE her that she gave out the loudest hiss I'd ever heard from her. 3. As a general rule. She tended tonignore anything that was on the TV, until 1 yr a friend from work gave me a vid of hummingbirds for my birthday. So we sat down to watch it, cat curled up between us, head on paws, but somewhere along the line she caught the bird movement on the TV and spent the entire rest of the video trying to find her way inside the TV so she could catch them. We laughed ourselves silly, OFC. Other: We had above able alarm for our back door, battery operated (1985-1994ish), that was shaped like an oversized padlock, and was triggered by anyone touching our doorknob. Operated on a capacitor switch. The being touching the knob would change the capacitance level, thus activating the internal capacitor to complete the circuit, and the alarm would go off, with loud repeating beeps. A couple of young cats from a neighbor's house had adopted my mom and she'd give them treats when they came for pets and scritchies.. and one time one of them reached up to.pat the doorknob, I guess trying to jiggle it. Set the alarm off. They got treats. Of course. But they also decided that alarm was their personal "ring for treats" bell. So, yeah, cats can be smart in some ways and not so in others, but we love them anyway.

Mine scored 57. She is very odd. When she poops, she will call for you to clean it up, and then make sure you did it. I also bought a dog toy that hides treats, but you have to pull levers, unscrew stuff etc to get access to them. She figured out all of them in no time. She can also open doors.

LOL! Speaking of cat's daily routines and/or how they get you to feed them, I had a cat for a time, Sonny. I was his fourth and final owner; he was 15 when I got him and passed four years later. Anyway, every day at about 3:00 pm, Sonny used to sit about midway in the room and just stare at me until I fed him. He never meowed or moved. He just... stared. Every, single day for one-two hours. For dinner I always feed my cats at the same time of day, 4:00 pm (5:00 during daylight saving time). It was an experience. You cannot imagine how unnerving it is to be stared at until you have a cat just staring at you, every day for hours.

@The mammal Animals are very good at picking up different tones. They can tell who you are by your voice and likewise can tell your mood based on voice. The cat that belongs to my boyfriend's family doesn't really come when he calls for it but when I do you'll hear happy chirps as it strolls right in to greet me, and with telling mood and who by voice I have a story where I stepped on horrible splinters and while he was helping remove them the cat came running to my distress and immediately jumped up next to me looking me up and down to assess the situation before laying on my hurt foot's leg and purring like crazy (cats can heal better with purrs and I assume he was trying to heal me and make me feel better..very sweet cat). Animals know who we are by our voice similar to we people recognize each other's different voices and tell somewhat by tone each others emotions..pets are just better at this as they have a larger range they hear in with much better hearing which makes changes in voices stick out like sore thumb to them.

Merri scored a 43! He learned tricks only on praise, i never gave him treats. We stayed in an AirBnB this summer and it was his first time living somewhere with an elevator. He was a bit confused at first but quickly understood to stay away from the doors and to enter the elevator when the doors opened. He also knows a ton of different words (in French) : hungry, go outside, no, play, put your harness on, what are you doing, his name, wait, bird, can (of wet food), "it's clean" (after i cleaned his litterbox), etc. ❤

my cat is very loving and caring most of the time. but he can be deadly when he wants to. When he was a kitten i didnt have any skin left anywhere on my body as his teeth and claws ripped me apart when he was playing as he got way to rough. When i have to put him in his carry case to take him to the vet i have to wear a suit of armour or he will rip me to shreds trying to get him in there. I open the fridge to get a treat out for him and he is climbing up my legs to rip it out of my hand as he cant wait for me to put it in his bowl. usualy its roast beef or roast chicken. he runs into a corner and growls al the time saying get away this is mine all mine. but if he sees he scratched me he comes up and snuggles up to say sorry didnt mean too. At least he stoped climbing up to the curtain track and jumping of and landing on the family jewels to wake me up when he wanted food or to play lol. His trick now is if im on my PC playing a game or surfing the net he will jump up knock the mouse out of my hand with his nose and knock it on the floor and if i try to pick it up again he pushes my hand away. thats him saying no more games i want attention lol. when he wants a kiss he uses his claw on my face to turn my head his way for a kiss. He loves being kissed between his ears more than he likes me rubbing there. When he wants his belley rubbed he roles onto his back grabs my hand with his paws no claws and pulls my hand to his belly. if i try to pull my hand away before he is ready claws sink in dont u dare stop lol. cats can kill dogs. when i was little we had a Burmese cat. he got out and went next door and killed their Rottweiler. scratched its eyes out with his claws. Think the constant barking drove him nuts when he was trying to sleep so went and silenced it lol. he badly hurt their German shepard in the same attack so he took on 2 big dogs at the same time and won. everyone thought he was a hero as we all hated the constant barking day and night. So dont mess with a cat when their angry.
