You should bring a pin pointed along and take samples home
@Miner49er1 Жыл бұрын
I've thought about it, but many of these old mines have active claims, and while it is not illegal here to explore them, it is illegal to take samples, as that is considered mining.

Do you think somebody dug that opening in the tunnel ceiling that you dropped down into or was that natural erosion? I would guess that it was deliberately dug by somebody because the portal was backfilled. Cool video, Nick!
@Miner49er1 Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I’m not sure about the hole. It looked natural, but it could easily have been dug out. Who knows.

Well Nick and Mrs finding mines and ruins is a great adventure hunt but seeing a hole in to a hill side or a shaft that goes down into the Earth to me is a whole new adventure into the unknown and following the tunnels or incline's that is a heart pounding discovery with lots of what ifs .Enjoy it all ⛏️see you later maybe even a 💰someday 🤔🏆🇺🇸

Great find. Your so lucky to have them in your area. I live in Indiana and nothing here. My grandmother in Virginia has a couple of coal mines from the 1800s on her farm. Stay safe

The West is riddled with old mines, but even where I grew up, in Utah, we didn't have a lot. It wasn't until I moved that I started finding so many. Thanks!

Dude, if I could do what you do, there wouldn't be any mine I went into, that if there were any remnants left of the ore they were digging out, I would be grabbing myself at least a sample of it! I can see by the remnants of the Quartz that it held a high possibility of carrying Gold. The quarts vein with a significant about of Iron oxide in it, they say that "...Gold rides an Iron Horse." and that vein looked perfect for gold content. I wonder what the percentage of gold content was. :) Thanks for sharing!

Good question, I wish I knew. As it is, many of these old mines still have active claims, and so I cannot legally take samples from them.
@danosmixedgrill6067 Жыл бұрын
I suppose they hoped that vein would get bigger as they went in, but no, then they gave up.
@Miner49er1 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's hard to say what was and could have been.
@jamesthompson8008 Жыл бұрын
Yes, a cool little mine. That fault wall (right side going in) being VERY clear thru the middle, has a lot to do with how that shaped the mine. I noticed how it disappeared as you went closer to the face, the way the rock changes back there tells me either the vein played out or they lost it. However, that pile of waste rock says there has to be more in that are. It looks like way too much for that short a run, wouldn't you agree. Good catch of the view behind you at the end, btw!!
@Miner49er1 Жыл бұрын
I think you're right about there being more out there. Problem is, we couldn't find other mines! Probably got closed in, like so many others.

Really like that professional-grade discount rope you're using to risk your life on. What gives with that?
@Miner49er1 Жыл бұрын
Not sure what you mean by discount, but the rope I use is a rated static climbing rope purchased at a climbing store. I only ever use actual climbing/rappelling gear; my life is important to me.

@@Miner49er1 In that case, you have my sincere apology. It had the look of a Dollar Store purchase, and it was an attempt at a humorous jibe. You have earned a one-time hit on my hard hat with a highly-rated flashlight.

Can you mine in these old mines or are the claims still active? Or are they even worth mining? Thanks for sharing.
@jamesthompson8008 Жыл бұрын
@gregl2459 Well, here you can see really easily how that vien pinched out pretty quick; a fair way from the face to. That's the reason they didn't go further with way back when. Also notice how there's a clear fault wall near the vein, but as the mine continues, it couldn't be delineated anymore(the way rock becomes more solid at the face). Basically, the vien played out.
@gregl2459 Жыл бұрын
@@jamesthompson8008 awesome thank you for explaining that to me I know very little of mining but I do love precious metals and I’d like to try getting a claim here in Alberta Canada and trying my hand at sluicing and panning or high banking. Have a great day😃
