In this video we are boxing up my large male black mamba. Black mambas are some of the most feared snakes in the world. Their venom is very quick acting making this one crazy capture.

Wow, he was ready for murder by the end there! I used to live in an area where these roamed wild. Only encountered them a few times and thankfully never saw someone get bitten, but it was always a nerve wracking experience! They are absurdly fast and can be very territorial. The green mambas were pretty timid, usually they'd run off without incident, but the black ones were always ready for a scrap and you had to be really careful when dealing with them.

1972 Early summer just before the rains I'm traveling from Burundi to Cameroon when a curious mamba lept into my jeep cruiser. They can hold much of their body upright and this one did just that. Looking me right in the eye he said "can you give me a ride?" realizing I had taken too much peyote and I was imagining this he quickly disappeared. ❤

You indicated you have a collection of snakes...what type of security arrangements do you have? I ask because I have read stories of people being killed in their homes by their own snakes...I think this happens because of overconfidence & because people think of them as pets with personalities & not as what they really are....

Right, at least with a cat or dog etc.. there not going to kill you. Well a dog maybe if big enough. Heard of a lady that just let a gaboon viper slither around on the floor while she cleaned the cage or something. idiot got bit and I think died. Pretty sure in her case it was just like you mentioned, overconfidence and not seeing the snake for what it really is, a dangerous animal.

I don't own any snake let alone a venomous one but I have noticed some consistent security measures that good KZbin handling snake channels have. The enclosures for the snakes are secure and allows for clear line of vision of what's going on inside. The actual room is secured with no gaps underneath other enclosures or easy ways for snakes to get on top of the enclosures. Minimal furniture in the actual enclosure room which allows for maximum movement. All the doorways that I've seen appear to have large glass panels in them that allow for easy viewing of the entire room to ensure that nothing is loose when it shouldn't be. I also notice that a lot of them have snake hooks and various containers to move snakes to in case things go sideways. Loads of education about snake personalities in the dangers that each one individually possesses including temperament likelihood and how their venom works and how they decide to inject. People who can assist or help with the interactions with the snake. I think the biggest thing though that any good handler shows is an awareness and appreciation for the creature that they are handling. While they may see the venomous snakes as a really cool pet to have, they never forget that they're dealing with something that can easily injure or kill them.

These things look like they were made by a fourth grader with parts left over after making his treehouse. Even if I were insane enough to own any type of venomous animal, let alone one of nature's most perfect apex predators, I would use something made with impenetrable steel, bulletproof glass, and some kind of robotic arm system. And I would have someone else use that crap 1,00,000,000 miles away, because I am not messing around with a gott-damn BLACK MAMBA!!!!

About 35 years ago, one of my employees told me of an event he personally witnessed. There were a large group of Zulus cutting sugar cane on a farm in Natal, just north of Durban, on the southeast coast of Africa. While they were busy cutting, a Black Mamba appeared among them. Although armed with "pangas", the men panicked, scattered, scrambling over the fallen cane, slipping, falling. They became easy targets, victims as the snake, moving at speed, bit one after another. Many died that day from the venom.

My brother lives in Maryland (United States) ... We were there visiting a couple years ago and a house in his upperscale subdivision was surrounded by emergency vehicles and animal control. They were behaving oddly... looking into all the windows and doors with flashlights, circling the home with what appeared to be walking sticks, and some in leather looking pants & tall, clunky boots. Watching the news that night, they found a man unalived on the floor but wouldn't say much more. Of course, I went to social media with the man's name. Turned out, he was a known snake keeper in the community who owned various snakes- many venomous. Rumors started but ultimately, his death was ruled accidental.... caused by a bite from a black mamba. They were concerned that he was bitten and succumbed to his injuries before he could contain the snake so caution was taken. That was not the case. Because he was a seasoned keeper, he knew how bad that bite was going to be but he took the little time he had to lock the snake back in its enclosure. I don't know if he believed he had time to contain the snake and call for help or if he knew he could only choose one and didn't want his anyone coming in after him and being put in the type of danger that a mamba on the loose could cause. Some say he was irresponsible bc most of the animals were owned "illegally".... I can understand that bc had emergency personnel been called and not given the info about his snakes, the situation could have been bad. If he had gotten proper permits, that info could have been known but maybe not in time... I hate all the hoops to do the things we want to do. But, in nearly every situation where hoop jumpin is necessary- there is at least one person who MADE those hoops a necessity. Most warnings/laws/regulations/guidelines are a direct result of someone's actions.......
