Meticulous phrasing! She is the Real Deal !! I have been listening to them all for the last 60 years, and she has brought something really special into our music!! Cheers

What she does so well is incorporate R & B "blues" licks with solid jazz phrasing. The NY voices did this incredibly well too. Most singers either sing "blues" licks or stay true to jazz/swing phrasing. In my opinion, the ability to be able to put the two together so well makes Veronica very special indeed!! I am a fan for sure.

I am alone in my office, but I am giving this vocalist and incredible band a standing ovation. What a performance! Ms. Swift is definitely an American Treasure. SC Jazz did a masterful job of performing the Count Basie arrangement. Was that chart written by Neal Hefti? To me, it has seems to have some Hefti earmarks. Thank you for the best three minutes of listening I have experienced in a long time.

It’s written by great west coast arranger Don Menza, originally recorded by Diane Schuur /Count Basie orchestra

Musicians like a conductor. How can everyone feel a quarter note at that exact same beginning and ending? No one has the same time, we are all individuals and appreciate that someone can orchestrate and lead us all to the same place besides depending on egos.

Nice band, but do someone really things that such musicians need somebody beat the mesure in front of them? Did Basie or Duke made that, and thousands big bands in the history of Jazz? Useless and ridiculous, Jazz is not Beethoven nor Wagner
@robertgardinerjazz57232 жыл бұрын
Agreed, but check out Quincy Jones with Count Basie. Actually there are many examples of "conductors" standing in front of jazz ensembles and waving there arms:)
@Thouveninpascal2 жыл бұрын
@@robertgardinerjazz5723 The only guy who made that in front of Basie's band Basie alive, is was because of Frank Sinatra, who invited the band in Vegas. Not so "many examples on stage. Quincy wanted to be a star, and became a star ,always directing his band, but it was useless In classical swing music , the tempo is the rule, not like in classical music. A swing big band doesn't need anybody in front of him to show the beat. Duke ,Webb, Miller, Dorsey, Goodman, Herman, Dizzy, Kenton, Mulligan, Wynton, Boland didn't "wave". All the guys doing this want only to be seen by the audience, but it is histrionics, not a necessary musical element, and they know it.
@robertgardinerjazz57232 жыл бұрын
@@Thouveninpascal I concur. I can just off the top of my head, however, think of examples of Ellington, Goodman, Herman, Thad Jones and Maria Schneider conducting a band just for the audience:) and it's ok
