PASTA GRAMMAR NEWS ALERT! My mom just dropped a bomb on me: a side of the family we knew very little about is actually Italian. She tracked down the info of my ancestor who emigrated from Naples, which is where Eva and I happen to be heading. Time to find my roots!
The only problem is that we need to finish our Christmas shopping first, and Naples during the holidays can be... a little intense.
🎄 Buon Natale, guys! 🎄

A guy I worked with recently showed up with some hot peppers. They didn’t look like jalapeños or Asian chilies 🌶️ so I asked him. He said they were Italian hot peppers that he grew himself. So I surprised him with my knowledge of Italian hot peppers by telling him they were Calabrian. He said “I’m Calabrian! How’d you know that?” So I told him about your channel 😂

Dr. Florida Man I've had the same sort of experience. I had a customer one time with slightly different Italian-sounding accent. I asked him where he was from. Kinda from the northwest of Italy. Liguria? "Not quite -- that's next door. How do you know about that?" Pasta Grammar. You know, that's what makes this channel so great. All the other channels that deal with Italian food or "Italian" food treat Italian cuisine as all the same. I find it really helpful to know about the regional differences. The only problem is that, when I hear Americans talking about "Italian" food, I'm often confused. Then I realize they don't know what they're talking about, and I keep my mouth shut. That way, everybody is happy.

Wonderful video again folks. I spent a month in Naples doing a play there, Questi Fantasmi which was translated as SOULS OF NAPLES by Eduardo De Filippo. He is considered the poet laureate of Naples, and even though we did the play in English, the whole audience, knew it, and even laughed at the punchlines ! It’s an amazing city for sure.

There’s so much culture (both old and new) in your videos, that hopefully it gets more people interested in exploring new places and meeting new people in Eva’s home country (and Harper’ adopted country)! And my understanding is that Calabria was founded by Greek settlers. In fact I saw a video on Calabrian-Greek culture. Very fascinating. By the way , if you noticed , there were bagpipers toward the end. Bagpipes were introduced to Romans by Greeks, who in turn brought them to Britain 🇬🇧. And today bagpipes are quintessentially Scottish 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿. I’m neither Greek or Italian . I came for the authentic Italian recipes , but l learned a lot more. 😊😊😊

Harper, the figurine Eva shown at 7:24 represent their version of a LOTTERY TICKET KIOSK, like the ones in the middle of the aisle of some local malls in my hometown. That's where you go to buy electronic lottery tickets (incl. instant games) and traditional lottery tickets (in our case are tickets singly numbered from 1-50K for prizes every week). Like they promote here "Porque La Suerte Te Toca" / "Cause Luck Is Looking For You"... 🍀🍀😁😁

The fact that your great, great grandfather came from Italy in 1899 isn’t that strange and wasn’t that long ago - when talking about family history. My paternal grandfather came to USA from Sicily in 1897 (dob 1873). I remember him well. I’m a young 68. I’ve been to Sicily and visited the house he was raised in and have met extended family. And yes, the welcome has always been warm and caring. You two keep up the good work - please. Buon Natale.

I loved this video and it left me wanting for more. Seeing Naples where my ancestry derived from was a joy, especially the food. I never made it to Naples when I was in Italy, such a shame. You’re right about Italian hospitality, they can’t do enough for you. So my little bit of Italy here was my aunt Louisa, the first war bride in our city who hailed from Rome. She was my Italian connection and I miss her so much. But through Eva, I’ve recaptured that great feeling of being a proud Italian and learning the best way to prepare Italian meals. I’ve made my own ricotta and pasta for raviolis, Italian bread and antipasto. Fritters with anchovies are next along with pizzelles and pignoli cookies. Thank God I’m Italian. Buon Natale!!

Your comments at the end say it all. Myself, my Grandfather came from Sicily and I grew up around my Italian side of the family " Falcone and Citterio" were family Names. My DNA shows that I am 45% Italian, but my wife after 10 yrs still gives me a hard time. Being that my wife is from the North, she really goes on about "The people of the dirt" I just laugh about the story of Sicily and how that culture developed over the centuries. No matter, like you, everyone I have met while in Italy was so kind and sweet. It made such a impact on me, I set out my goal to move to Rome and finally once my Townhouse sells, we will be moving there. Happy Holidays and have a Great New Year

Hello, fellow countryman! 👋🏼 I was born in Priverno, few kilometers north of Sonnino, and I live in Terracina, right on the coast.

@@TruthIsTheNewHate84Not too difficult, I guess. Rome is the capital and so its airport has many direct flights from the major countries in the world. From there, it takes about an hour to arrive here (much easier than Eva and Harper's travel to Dasà). Also it's not one of the most famous touristic area of Italy and so its not expensive, except for the seaside during summer.

How wonderful to be finding out about your heritage and to be able to visit where your ancestor lived! I'm Romanian (born there) and am hoping to find out about some family that my parents didn't have any information on, might try one of those DNA kits. Hopefully can visit there again one day to find more out as well! Merry Christmas to you both!

Buon Natale, Eva and Harper. My Nonna (on Mamma’s side) was Felice Natale, so her name was literally Merry Christmas. Harper, I always thought You looked Italian, around Your eyes. Being Italian is distinct from having Italian DNA. You have been becoming Italian for years, and thank You (and Eva) for sharing Your journey. Buon Capo d’Anno! I love You guys. ❤🎉❤
