I believe every year on Sirius XM classic vinyl top 100 countdown, it always lands in number one spot. Thank you for deciding to listen to Led Zeppelin, all their songs are great, some might not be your favorites but you won’t hate them either. Keep enjoying them, you won’t be sorry.

I saw Led Zeplin in 1973 at the sold-out Braves Stadium in Atlanta. The field and all seats were filled. They were horrible!!!! Drunk and on Drugs. It was the biggest concert in Atlanta to this day. Less than halfway through, 2/3's of the audience left....including us. Then we got robbed at gunpoint while getting into the car. Stairway to Heaven sounded like I was in HELL.

I am now 71 years old and experienced this song when it was first released in 1971, and like everyone in my generation, I can tell you we were as mesmerized by it as much then and you are today. Over the many years since Led Zeppelin produced this epic song, I use to listen to the famous radio personality, Casey Cassin. produce his "Countdown to the 100 best songs of all Time" every Fourth of July weekend and this song was repeatedly , year after year, voted as the number one greatest song of all time. It is truly the greatest rock ballad of all time, and Robert Plant's vocal, Jimmy Page's guitar riff and John Henry Bonham's drum solo are one of the greatest of all time. I am truly thankful that I lived through the greatest period in rock music.

With all due respect, and this coming from a fellow Pink Floyd fan, LZ is untouchable in every way. Can't listen to Floyd very long as it gets depressing. Zep had so many different genres within their albums so as never to get bored. I grew up with all these fantastic bands. The Beatles, Floyd, Purple... All of them. Zeppelin was the only band that could literally drop my jaw to the floor. Repeatedly. They were THAT good.

Really love that you really loved this song. 50+ years old and people still go crazy for it, that's how good it is. There's so much to it - the composition, how it builds and fills in from the bottom up, and feels like you are climbing - you can find something new and interesting it every time you listen to it and I've probably heard it 200 times. It's like that with most LZ songs, but especially this one.

Heart performed this song live. I think it was at the Rock 'n' Roll HOF. The band members of Led Zepplin were in the audience. That was a very worthy version.

This was one of their best, most people are recommending the more popular well known songs, but they have so many hidden gems that reach that same plateau for the listener. Try Gallows Pole Led Zeppelin. It will be a real treat to your ears.

The Recorder, which is a medieval wooden flute. John Paul Jones played the bass or tenor recorder, or both - in the beginning of Stairway.

You need to check out the Heart version when Zeppelin is being honored at Kennedy Center. They are singing this Zeppelin song in front of Zeppelin! It's awesome. And the drummer in this one is the son of Led Zeppelin's drummer John Bonham who has passed. The son is Jason Bonham. I cry everytime I watch it.

That "flute" sound comes from an instrument called a "Recorder". There a few that are creating a harmony. The keyboardist, John Paul Jones used a mellotron when they played the song live to get that "Recorder" sound. This is still one of my favorite songs of all time.

The guitarist, Jimmy Page wrote the music, while the singer, Robert Plant wrote the lyrics. The flute sound is a 'recorder'.

The flute sound you're hearing is called a Recorder. When Jimmy recorded the lead for this song he did 25 takes to get what he wanted and that is what you here on the studio recording.

@@DTH3000 You better go do some research. According to Jimmy, on the original recording John Paul Jones used a recorder when they played live he used the mellotron.
