I'm not so sure. Free radical was not that big of a company and only had a couple of games published. Considering all the problems they ran to and developers saying the game was mediocre at best, then something tells me that it would have been a bit of a disappointment. Sad thing is, we'll never know. It could've been the best game ever, or a disgrace :(

I not sure if you mention it, but I know that nobody else ever mentions it. Battlefront 3 was "Technically" made properly. It came to PSP as Battlefront Elite Squadron. It obvisouly wasn't exact, but the story line and basic premise was all there! Nobody talks about it. It was a unique concept and interesting that they didn't full scrap it. Anyway, thanks for reading this far.

I played that same leaked version a while ago, and I'd say it feels closer to the EA games than the classic games in some ways. In other ways it does feel more like the 2005 game, like being able to properly enter vehicles, etc, but the overall gameplay certianly feels very different. Some interesting things: - In the first campaign mission, you can actually steal a separatist lander, one of the huge ones from TPM, and pilot it. Idk if it's intentional or a bug, but you can't do it. However, i don't think the mission can be completed, sadly. - Melee-based units allow you to control how you attack, hold down the aim button? (or was it the attack one? don't remember) and then move the right stick (the one used for looking around) to decide the direction of your attack. - The one map where i've been able to actually have working gameplay for capital ship destruction so far is Hoth. i think the rebel ship can be destroyed (might be imperial one, don't fully remember). - Lando has an ability where he throws headcrabs - Some of the heroes really seem like they would have been more like reinforcement units than heroes, like nightsister warrior or droideka

With modern day graphics cards, processors, and consoles in general, what the original set out to be would be a walk in the park (given enough resources), especially for the Xbox Series X and Play Station 5. Pandemic didn't "annoy" Lucasarts. Pandemic turned down Lucasart's offer for them to work on BF3 because they wanted a new game in 9 months, which was impossible to do during that time since they were working on other projects. Battlefront III never had 50v50 battles. The assets for Battlefront III were given to Rebellion to work on ES during the development of BF3, not after it was cancelled. I also don't thinking shitting on Battlefront III and Free Radical in the first half of the video does anything justice. These people worked hard. Milestones weren't failed because Free Radical was "lazy" or "greedy" or didn't work hard enough. Graeme Norgate put out a piece on this a while back on why Lucasarts failed their milestones. Overall you missed a lot in your video as it barely even scratches the surface of the game's development, not to mention the countless (failed) attempts at a remake that are out there.

Loved playing Battlefront Elite Squadron (salvaged and repurposed BF3) on PSP as a kid and I play the BF3 Legacy mod a lot today. Not quite BF3 at its full potential but both have a lot of the concepts it was going to have, enough to be awesome even now. I really think the real thing would've been great. Hopefully elements of it comes to the EA Battlefront 3. If they did complete or release it, they could call it "Star Wars Legends: Battlefront III".

In regards to the Elite Squadron gameS that came out for PSP and DS; the PSP had most of the gameplay shown with some obvious downgrades due to hardware limitations, however its story mode made little to no sense as how it progressed or what the characters were doing. However, the DS version had the entire campaign be told through artwork; so it actually pieces together the entire story elements and tells the whole story of the X-clones.

Elite Squadron and the game before it Renegade Squadron were actually pretty good games, they worked well on the PSP and i was trapped for many many many maaaany hours playing them. The stories of both games were unique and fun.

Thumbs up for the honest recitation of the history behind the game. So many people are salty at George and LucasArts without realizing what they're talking about. I'm not a fan of this Pre-Alpha build. It looks like a slightly upscaled version of Pandemic's Battlefront 2 at best. I like the concept of what it tried to be, though. Clickbait aside, there is a mod for the 2005 BF2 that aims to restore content from this. Battlefront III Legacy is still being worked on, but at the moment, you can play a few maps, complete with ground-to-space combat, new sides, heroes, and UI, with the option to carry some of it over to Battlefront 2 maps. It's pretty fun, and also a nice way to play a bit of the cancelled game without having to emulate to play an old build.

After playing both bf and both bf2 games, I think the idea of going ship to surface is senseless. I wanna run around and shoot guns; other people like flying ships; still others want to swing light sabers. I think I'd prefer separate games with separate maps and separate characters and separate stories. So you could have a great space battle game, a great Star Wars ground-battle game, and a great Jedi-fighting game, without trying to force them into one package for a single price. Spreading large numbers of players over a large map will tend to leave small groups of players to be slaughtered by slightly larger groups all over the map. The idea of using a "battlefront" concept to focus the attention of _all_ players to a few fixed locations made the games work well for a large range of team sizes; this feature is required! That said, I still would like an off-line mode like bf2's Conquest Mode -- I lost months of my life playing that, and I'd love to do it again!

Take the entirety of Empire At War, the gunplay of 2017 battlefront, the lightsaber and force combat of Jedi Academy and that is what I want the next version of Galactic Conquest to be. You can customize your character to extreme for the campaign playing as a shoo-in young Captain filling in till someone better is found. New characters to introduce into the universe, new experiences to have but as you go through your first campaign(to take a major fortress, then the planet, the the nearby star systems) you progress to be the highest Commander. And this is where the galaxy really opens up for you to liberate or conquer. The battles would be seamless no loading screens, no pause buttons, all live your factory on Felucia is making AT-TEs while your reinforcements march into Venators on Kamino while your Commando's raid CIS positions on Ryloth gathering Intel and sabotaging the hypervelocity gun for when your next fleet arrives there at the end of the Galactic week that one of your four mates is in. Oh ya he's there he just joined in but he wanted to start as just a CT with his bro that hasn't heard from in a long time. And your last mate is hanging from a ledge waiting for your signal to ambush the approaching enemy because a cover and climbing system would be a welcome improvement since you've got 140+ worlds in the galaxy to secure for Victory. Oh, and there's co-op, multi-player, blast, supremacy, and all the other lame modes from the previous games but hey at least they'll be more than 16 maps since 140+ worlds means 140+ maps glad we could finally surpass the 2005 game for the variety factor. But none of this will probably happen cause itd take a triple A studio with help from awesome production companies that have worked on star wars before to pull off cause then itd easily be within their reach to make an awesome game that didn't feature a single microtransaction but instead focused on just quality content. But hey, a man can dream can't he?

for what its worth, if you get a game called Squad on steam, theres a free star wars mod on it that feels close to what battlefront 3 should have been, alot of the maps they use also look the same as the ones in the video. it is a milsim game so there are massive sweats but if youre looking for a close-enough battlefront 3 on PC its one i recommend

I've played this build and I learned the hard way that changing controls breaks everything. Also seeing what levels worked was literally trial and error. But the concept of the game itself works infantry, vehicle, and starfighter combat going from the planet to the capital ship in space then getting back down with an escape pod it all there. It's definitely not perfect the framerate is all over the place, a lot of maps simply don't load, there are broken textures, there are melee classes but the AI has no concept of using them so they just run up to you and do nothing. The game was salvaged and turned into Battlefront: Elite Squadron for the DS and PSP the PSP version has the same gameplay concepts as the console version albeit stripped back going to space, planet, or capital ship requires a cutscene for example. But the story for both is more or intact, it's a shame SWBF3 never got to see the light of day. I still play the classic SWBF2 because it's still that much fun to play.

LucasArts did some truly idiotic things but I don't think BF3 was their fault, the game just wasn't finished and might not have been possible at all on the Xbox360/PS3, or the generation after that for that matter. Free Radical doesn't have the best track record of honesty, so I don't know why so people believe them when they say it was 97% complete. I think if BF3 came out in 2008 it would have been the Cyberpunk of its generation: promising too much, and lying about how functional it was, and being received very poorly by severely disappointed fans

I hope that when EA eventually makes their own Battlefront 3 they add space to ground combat. I love that mechanic in the BF2 BF3 Legacy mod and would love to see it in an official release.
