I was walking to my car one afternoon and a coyote was coming into the yard. Walking in a straight line not normal acting. I went into the house, got my rifle and took him out. Sometimes we just have to do these things to protect not only our animals but our little children also. Good for Jackie, making you aware of the problem.

Sounds to me like you did the right thing by the coyote too. If they're sick then it's kinder to just put them down quickly & cleanly. No suffering at all. Besides even if it was healthy you don't want ones living that are willing to come right up to humans. Better for the species to take those out & leave the smart ones that avoid humans to their own woods. Also as much as I like coyotes they're pretty common & their only predators are us. So it's up to us to take care of their numbers by hunting. Just don't ask me to shoot them. I'm not against it. I just can't hit the broad side of a barn. Believe me I tried for 3 years to get my misbehaving cats with a bottle cap. Never got them once & the turds didn't even move. But at least they stay off my counters & don't scratch my giant lazyboy recliner.

Sounds a bit like me. I really like coyotes but I live a city where I don't deal with them. But I can certainly support farmers taking out those that pose a real threat. Even more so if they're also acting weird & could be sick. Then it's just kindness to put them down. It's just the wholesale slaughter of tens of thousands I can't support. As long as they stay far away I'd be willing to leave them be. But they come close & I'd shoot them. Uh except I can't hit the broad side of a barn. So I'd find another way.

That used to be the case but less so anymore. Many animals, healthy ones too, have just become acclimated to humans now. In areas where there is no hunting for instance, you walk right up to many deer. They’ve lost that fear, which is not good.
@Kitsune1989
@Kitsune1989 Жыл бұрын
Yep. When wild animals, especially predators, aren't afraid of humans it's a bad bad sign. Either it's disease, such as rabies distemper etc. It's injury, preventing them from hunting normal prey and they're getting desperate enough to not care. Or they're young and haven't figured their shit out enough to successfully hunt reliably and they're looking for an easier meal. I'll never forget being up in the middle of fuck-all-nowhere and being stalked, openly, by a very young cougar. Had a gun because it's pretty much suicide to be in that area at that time of year without something. Cougers, Black and brown bears, demon moose, occasionally wolves. Not to mention elk can be dangerous if they take offense to ones existance though it was the wrong time of year to be really worrying about them. Turned around and gave it the good old shouting/make yourself big. Cat just gave me the "I'm young, not stupid human" look. Didn't even flinch. Fired a shot at the ground. Didn't even twitch. Fired a shot at a fallen rotting tree. Turned around like it was thinking about it and held its ground. THAT, is not a good sign. Decided to head back home. Spent the entire hike back, walking backwards making noise and firing the occasional shot at the ground when it was getting a bit bold. Weird thing was that the cat appeared well fed and healthy with no obvious injuries. Doesn't mean it was healthy but you can usually tell from body language, or physical signs, if the animal is diseased enough to tangle with humans. Cougars are protected here and I would have to be able to prove the animal intended harm to avoid a huge fine and possible jail time. That wasn't a hunting permitted area either so.... I also prefer not to kill an animal unless it's actual necessary, or I'm specifically out there hunting.

When I heard you mentioning that coyotes taking out the deer population. I had that same incident in my front yard a couple of days ago. My husband took the remains of what was left (he said it was a young deer to be exact) and tossed it into the woods next to us. It was laying in our front yard. We are about 300 feet from the road. I had heard the coyotes during the middle of the night so I knew something was up. They howl when they find food so the others would come running. They run in packs around here. I live in Chillicothe, Ohio and in the summer and sometimes in the winter just about every night because I live around the hills and tree line areas. I had cats and I always made sure I brought them in at night and it paid off. I never really saw them during the day though. That was a good shot taken. You will probably have to keep an eye out for others now that they have been coming around.

That's the kind of behavior we saw with coyotes when they were denned up nearby and looking for a free range snack. They have plenty of time to observe your routine and acclimate to your presence and hunt around it. Our neighbors had trouble; but we didn't because we carried our rifles everywhere and popped off every chance we got at a good target. Spring whelping season and prey bird hatch times are the hardest on free range chickens.

I believe Jackie knows her job around the barn now, she is only a pup still but with a lion's heart. The chickens and Charlie are just small snacks to coyotes But there are videos of coyotes taking down a full-size dog. Nice clean shot taking the coyote out .

That little girl did GREAT at protecting the ranch. She gets lots of good fussin' over her for that. You don't want any mangy sod-poodles around, especially when they're just too brave like that. Nice shot there Dusty.

Nice shot!!! Heck, we had coyotes all over PA. And, yes, we saw them during the day. I had them in my backyard in Southern PA, as my 3 acres was among 100s of farmland. When they ran out of food, small animals, they left, but it took a while. We always kept a watch on our smaller dogs and cats. Friends in neighborhoods always told me they saw them. I believe coyotes can be found all over the U.S. They are very adaptable. Luckily, my middle son was a good shot like you. Took out some groundhogs, which we had lots of problems with, too. The nearby farmer was always happy about that, as they ruined his fields.

Good job Jackie and Dusty. That's a big coyote. Probably a den close by. They are great at luring dogs away. Jackie did her job. The bison don't seem to be effected by anything.

Male Coyotes don't assist in rearing their pups. The other coyote is likely a male too, perhaps a sibling, but coyotes don't normally run in packs like wolves.

Absolutely GREAT video!!! Glad you were able to protect the feather babies, cat and Jackie! The EAGLE Oh my Gracious, My Grandparents lived in southwest Virginia Appalachian mountains, the view from their front porch was MASSIVE mountains with the New River running at the bottom of it and a gorgeous dam to the right of the view. My Paw Paw and Hubby we're sitting out on the front porch in the swing talking and Paw Paw said lookie there, there's an Eagle making a nest in the tree on the mountain. They came in to tell us, and we watched her fly and gather sticks and go back to a certain tree. It wasn't and a second one appeared, so they grabbed binoculars and sat for hours watching those 2 gorgeous majestic Eagles building a nest. A few months later, my Paw Paw was able to watch the babies fly from there. It's an experience few ever get and something you don't forget. What a HONOR!!! Thank you for sharing!

Great job to Jackie! She protected the barn animals chicken and cat and bison too. Sometimes s you need to protect land from predators to keep your Bison safe and keep them healthy as some other wildlife May have disease from wild . As well. Great job Jackie your pet dog ! And still a puppy learning fast . WOW amazing. And seeing an Eagle wonderful sign of courage and boldness . Blessings too! Must have heard gunshot know s something is food source somewhere . Eagle s very smart. Sharp eye's. Beautiful Bird. Maybe photo watch for more pictures s of eagle s in your area. For a calendar of your Ranch as well for another year. 2024 . Or something.

Becoming bold - wanting easy food. My 2 German Shepherds had 3 different barks - you learn what they mean fast. Beautiful Eagle. That is amazing for Jackie. Think if they are getting to your farm animals then you can shoot them. Stay safe & take care of you all. Thanks for sharing, eh :))

I have always been a fan of the American Bison and the North American Pronghorns. Both are Iconic American prairie animals. In appropriate settings, they are a challenge & fun to hunt. AND, they sure do taste great!! Seems everywhere I lived coyotes were plentiful and year round game. We used to snow camo & lie in the snow during beautiful winter days to harvest them in Wisconsin. Here in south-central New Mexico they are tougher to hunt because of all of the scrub Mesquite, Creosote & Juniper shrubbery. Here, Peccary & Javelina are a common prey for them as they pack hunt. The size of the game in the shrubbery makes sighting difficult. Both species sure do tear up the landscape.

Way to go Jackie!!! You have a great livestock guardian! Maybe you should start looking for a male guardian dog as well since you have such a large area! If you do get a 2nd one, get a male. Two of same sex will fight and not get along. That was good aim too Rusty, got him!! Jackie has her big girl bark now too!!

Great job, Jackie and Charlie (just for good measure). I'm thinking I may need to get a dog like her. I live in the middle of a large city in the middle of North Carolina and have coyotes around. Not long ago I was sitting outside with my coffee, looked up, and there was a coyote standing at the end of the driveway. Can't decide which of us was more surprised. So he took off through the backyard and into the woods. Less than a mile away is what I call restaurant row so no doubt they eat well from the dumpsters. I also have deer, raccoons, 'possums, stray cats, along with the usual yard critters; squirrels, chipmunks, and birds. I love it. I've got squirrels and chippies that eat from my hand. Used to have a raccoon that did that. So thanks for showing us what Oklahoma farm life is like. But I did crack up when the music started playing as the eagle flew around. Too funny!! 🤣
