I met a very wise lady at the gym who told me how she downsized. After selecting all the items she needed for her new smaller home, she called her children to come round and select what they wanted. When they were finished, she then called her siblings. Then her extended family, then friends, then neighbors/church. In the end she called the local charity to haul away what remained.

Am I the only person who thinks that the guy in the memorabilia shop who bought that piece of wood with a piece of brass on absolutely ripped the son off??? He said to him this piece is worth more than all the rest put together! Then gave him £50!! The son then took the other bits to the auction house and it sold for £120! I think the guy from the shop just wanted that piece for as cheap as he could get it for, I know that sounds horrible to say BUT it’s the way he said it and then it sold for more than double what he gave to the son for one piece?? I reckon it was with a lot more than the guy was willing to pay for it and he wanted it for himself, I don’t know maybe I’m just being mean and rude or maybe untrusting BUT it just seemed a bit strange to me personally,

This is a very good episode. Poor Lynn at least is now down to one unit only. I was lucky enough (by taking out a massive loan and giving my husband more than half our assets!!!!!) to keep the house but I can imagine how people feel who either lose it on divorce or as here on its being repossessed because the mortgage was not paid. Her friend was lovely to her too. I would encourage women always to work full time and never rely on men for money or housing as you tend to be safe in those cases in fact even in the case of the first couple - husband killed at work when only 8. They are right about old 1980s furniture - I had to take a lot of old stuff when my parents died to the tip as it had no resale value at all as everyone buys from Ikea etc. Massive difference and very sad and bad for the planet that we have to throw so much stuff out.

These shows have made me want to get rid of stuff, I have gone thru every cabinet, drawer and closet in my home. Some was sold, rest went to charity, still cleaning out the basement, it is half done, garage is half done, shed is already cleaned out. Now time to sell and more charity. I am not a hoarder, but getting rid of stuff others can use. I am a neat freak!

People, don't handle your metallic objects with bare hands; the oils and sweat from your skin can and will cause permanent corrosion and spoil the aesthetic look of the items as well as reduce their value. Wear nitrile gloves if you can and either way handle as little as possible. Source: my work as a conservator and Museum training in metal conservation/preservation.

I tend to hve opposite habit, I despise clutter and useless stuff. I regularly go through my clothes and personal items and whatever doesn't pass the useful test is sent to charity shop, or binned. I save a lot of money now because I hardly buy anything anymore, which is very good, but I'm becoming so minimalist, starting to wonder if that's not an issue in itself haha..

I like Aggie I really do BUT, when she said to the lady who lost everything when her marriage broke up about getting rid of the big fridge freezer I honestly thought that was too much, end of the day I think that woman was sensible keeping hold of her appliances, okay it’s a big one to have for one person, but what’s to say she’s not the sort of person who buys a lot of shopping because she likes to have family and friends over to entertain etc, my mate lives on her own now she’s broken up with her partner and her kids all left home years ago, BUT when she bought herself a new fridge freezer that was significantly smaller than the one she had before I knew it was gonna b a huge mistake, and I was RIGHT! 😂 she’s got this tiny thing and although she’s on her own she struggles to keep all her stuff in the fridge part!! Luckily she’s got a separate chest freezer so she can store plenty of frozen food but the fridge is pathetic!! Also at Christmas time everyone weather they have a family still at home or not, go out and buy plenty extra, and if that lady downsized her she would struggle like hell, not only what I’ve mentioned above for reasons BUT also why would anyone want to sell all there appliances and then when they get a new place then have to find money to fork out for new appliances!?!? If it works then keep it, I’d rather go through ALL the storage units as she said she has x2 large units and x1 smaller one, I’d keep hold if one unit total, I’d then go through everything and the stuff like furniture, appliances, beds and bedroom items along with curtains and bedding stuff like that I’d keep it all in one unit the smaller the better and get rid of the other units, with the stuff that’s not NEEDED to make up a home, I’d see what it’s worth and sell it, and anything that’s not worth money I’d give to charity, and ONLY items that are broken and faulty I would put into a skip, I’m totally shocked sometimes at what people actually do put into skips and landfill sites, because there’s so so many people out there that have absolutely nothing, when I first left home I had a single mattress a small portable tv my bedding and cloths oh and I had a dining chair to put my tv on! Luckily a friend said about a charity place and I went to there storage place next to a building they owned which was bedsits and mini studio apartments they used for people mainly young adults who were homeless and they gave me a proper bed, a couple of arm chairs a fridge and a cooker oh and they gave me a twin tub!! Haha I’d never even knew what it was before I had one myself, was so funny, BUT I was so grateful for that so I could actually wash my own cloths, It was like Christmas for me because at the time of leaving home I wasn’t in good terms with my parents and I didn’t wanna ask for help and look like I couldn’t cope etc, so the help the charity gave me meant a lot to me, that was when I was nearly 17 and now I am going to be 40 next Thursday!! BUT I’ve NEVER forgotten what they did for me, I remember that day so vividly it’s unreal, I felt so much gratitude and love towards these people so end of the day to give something u no longer need even if u think it’s only good enough for the skip, think again, think of others, not everyone is lucky enough to have family and friends, and not everyone can work to be able to afford to start from scratch, all the items they gave me I did slowly replace over the years, but without the help of that charity I don’t know what I would of done, so yeh I think Aggie trying to push her to get rid of a perfectly good item is silly, I wish this lady all the best in life, what a horrible traumatic experience she had to go through, xxxx lefts hope life’s being good to her now, and for everyone out there, xxxx Kate 🇬🇧 xxxx

Maggie, please do not pretend to know about wines. A Chateau LaFitte is great, but all wine collectors know that once transported to Asia it sucks. Nobody in their right mind will ever buy it back. Asians have no idea how to take care of great vintages. And though LaFitte is a grand name, it still depends on type and year before one can state it is a great wine. A 100 pound bottle can be sold for 10k, that depends on what a crazy person wants to give for it. Also you are wrong about the most expensive wine ever sold. It was a 73 year old, French Burgundy, for 417,920.41GBP (558,000 USD).

I agree but her problem would have been English law - you don't get state housing as a parent with children unless you wait until your house is repossesed and you are thrown out.If instead you just choose to leave you will not even be put up in one room on a bed and breakfast really poor quality place. The is one reason tenants and owners often are almost forced to wait until a court order and baliffs arrive.

Hmm If they want to get rid of their stuffs, why are they so nervous about the price that they are selling at?ex 42:56. Some are definitely worth selling at a higher price but many times I don't think they hold any value. Afterall with so many good things being produced nowadays, those things could just be dumped. I wouldn't expect the items to sell at all and even if it did at whatever price I would be happy. Cause the purpose is to discard those things, not earn money through it. I personally am interested in some victorian items some people sold in this show but those furnitures to me seem of no value. I sell some new stuffs too but I sell at low price and if they don't sell I drop the price even more. To me getting rid of them is more imp. than how much I earn from it.

Our three kids (6-3-3) getting rid theire old/broken toys, themselves. Less is more! We're very pleased with our choice. Live bigger in a tiny house.
