@laserhawk645 ай бұрын
While I'm impressed by your efforts in removing the bad decisions of the Bus Project, I wish you'd be a bit more proactive about your choice of sponsor. At least you have options, now, since your last video was sponsored by someone else. You had a bad relationship with the bus, and you got rid of it. You clearly wouldn't suffer a bad relationship with a person -- and, yet, Factor has a bad case of pathological lying, and you not only house it under your roof, and actively support it, but you repeat those lies yourself. You wouldn't support a cheating wife, or a lying girlfriend (if you were unwed), and you clearly didn't put up with the abuse the bus dished out any longer than you had to. It's time to dump Factor. Here's a little encouragement. Not only have I +Unliked the video, and reported it both for misinformation and for fraudulent and scammy advertising content -- which it is, and you can't _possibly_ be unaware, because nearly every video, if not every video, with this sponsorship fail, has a comment from me documenting quite painstakingly exactly what's wrong here, but I've reported you as a channel, and I've gone and verified which videos are affected, and ALL of them are in the report. Quite honestly, the legality of KZbin simply allowing people to view such videos, unedited, in countries such as the UK where there are truth-in-advertising laws in effect is openly questionable at best, although I doubt there's even one barrister in all of London who has the "eggs" to take on KZbin directly in such a matter. It would also not surprise me to find that there's some way in which people are actively harmed, economically or otherwise, by being misled by this stuff, although such is pure speculation as of right now. I applaud your work ethic, and your decision to rid yourself of a project that's weighing you down, and your craftsmanship and skill, as shown simply in retooling that garage into a shop, is obvious. I don't expect perfection from anyone, but I don't see why you can't treat a sponsor that's an albatross about your neck, the same way as you just did a project that was taxing you equally. It's a blight on your reputation, if nothing else. Like I said... it's time to dump Factor.

On a note separate from my other commentary. Nicely done on the new workshop! I'm impressed by the array of skills I saw on display, from working with reinforced concrete, to woodworking (per your other channel), to something as simple as a sense of organization when it comes to tools and when it comes to layout. I have to say, I'm looking forward to seeing what you do in the new space, as well. You probably don't want any suggestions from me in regards to the new name, as I somewhat doubt I've made a favorable impression of myself in the past few months, but I'll give it a shot anyways... after all, even a blind archer hits a deer in the forest once in a while. It seems to me that you only called it the "bus dungeon" because you _felt_ gloomy by a project that, as you eventually came to realize, was just too much for you -- it was never really a gloomy space. Certainly it isn't one now. You also mentioned how bright the lighting was. How about the Brilliant Workshop? :D ...I can hear you protesting already, in your self-deprecating way. I won't try to flatter you and call you a genius (I don't believe in insincerity or lies anyways... you, erm, _may_ have noticed...), but I _would_ say that you're fairly brilliant with what you do and what you try to do. The shoe fits, and you should be proud to wear it.

Funny thing: The bus project was one of the reasons that got me into this channel. But I still think you made the right choice. Especially since you didn't want to have the end result anymore. Projects are a weird thing. You start out with either an idea of something you want or an item that you got by chance. I had this happen to me numerous times and I have quit on both types. The first ones are usually harder to give up on because you keep coming back to it and have started organizing stuff around the thing you do not have yet but for which you already bought components. The second ones are usually easier to give up on and I actually have stopped taking stuff because it's free. It never ends well... A few years back (probably 7 years by now) I got my hands on a free Audi TT leather driver seat. Manual seat adjustment but electrically operated back support and heating. My plan right from the start was making it into a desk chair. So I build a wooden base (that was about 200mm too high) and used it. But I never could get over the idea of having electrical heating and being able to adjust the back support. So about 4 years ago I started buying components like a 12V power supply, automatic breakers (it turns out most of the ones for your home also work with 12V DC), switches, cables aso. The idea was to build a new base made from square steel pipe and integrate a breaker board into it. But whenever I thought about it, I came up with even nicer solutions. Eventually I buried that idea and used all the home breakers for their intended purpose and bought cheap car relais and a fuse box and switch board for a caravan. That was like 50€ all in all. I build an external power supply as I didn't want a cable with 230V AC (I live in Germany) laying on the floor being moved all the time. This was also like 50 bucks. But I hit another roadblock: To control the heating you would need a heating controller. This is easy enough. They are like 20 bucks on Amazon. But they come with their own temperature sensor (and only work with that type) and I want to use the one already inside the seat as it is way more accurate and faster. But I couldn't find anywhere which kind of sensor they use. And without that knowledge I cannot buy the correct controller. We also own and wrench on a lot of cars and from time to time I stop and wonder if I should quit it all, sell everything and buy one nice and newer car. Life would be so much more simple and I'd have more time for other stuff. But then I'd end up with new and potentially even more stupid projects so what's the point :D

15:03 - "I'm sure the 'feeling' part of that is temporary". Man, do I ever feel that statement. It makes me so happy seeing you happy and content as you are in this video; just knowing how similar a battle we constantly fight with ourselves to do anything, or WANT to do anything.

Good on you for getting the bus out of your life. It sounds like it was (almost literally) living there rent-free and not helping things much--actually, just the opposite. And a better workspace is always helpful. I don't have any shop name ideas, but I have a name for the other building: The Cellar. You know, because the channel is called Aging Wheels, and a cellar is where you keep barrels to . . . Yeah, that one may not be ready for prime time. But I'm excited to see what you do in the new space!

We have a separate building later planned to be used to disassemble vehicles we call the slaughterhouse. Since this will be your work space, it needs something evoking the feeling of accomplishment when you finish a project in it. The assembly bay? "The bright and shiny, get off my hiney." No, wait, how about "Bolt on bolt dome".

Truth be told: since day one seeing Robert being happy and full of childish joy is the reason why I watch this videos, I care for him not for a specific project. Frick the motherflippin bus, project Dunn is the one we all should care about!

I feel validated watching your videos. I got into so much debt in my twenties jumping from project to project, never finishing a single one. Then I got diagnosed.

I think that as your life has changed via many events since you started the bus project, you were right to part with it. I'm going through a similar phase myself and I hope I can come out of it with as positive an attitude and outcome as you.

I agree you made the right choice. You moved on from a project you lost the spark for and got a great place to finish projects you still want to work on. I look forward to updates on the Escape project!

The downfall of this project, in MY opinion, was your decision to take all the strengthening ribbing and rivets out of the walls and replace perfectly good walls with your flat panels. I think the excessive work involved in something that brings so little return failed this. I'd slit my wrists before being able to go through that again o the other side.
@Gatewayuser2005 ай бұрын
I think that's exactly the cause. Too much focus on the "wants" of the bus and not enough focus on the "needs" of the bus. Smoothing the sides was a massive time sink that was never completed and did absolutely nothing to further the end goal of making a vehicle hauler/RV.

The amount of side quests you have to go through for any project 1) Reminds me of 90% of anything I have to do on my cars/house 2) But at a much larger scale. Hats off to you and your enormous patience. I love this channel 😂.

I am genuinely happy for you. This was an enjoyable video. I enjoyed seeing the relief on your face of de-burdening yourself from the bus. On a side note, however, who are you kidding that you won't end up getting more cars than will fit in the old shop and end up with a couple-three in there? ;-)

Well, RIP Bus. But yeah its probably a good idea, I was surprised when you said just how long the bus had been parked there, as it just felt like it was yesterday when you drove it into the shop. And damn, I remember when you first got the shop, so the pit also seems like it was just yesterday lol. Some not bus dungeon name ideas: big room, working room (compared to storage room) and white room. Yes, I am not very creative. I also had to laugh when you said you wouldnt ever permanently store vehicles in that room, my ADHD brain thinks its only a matter of time.

Now I do know! Your last video confused me. I thought I missed a video of you moving. Yay Robert! I'm glad you have a new found happiness in your new shop. I got rid of one of my never ending car projects that was weighing me down. So I know how you feel. Congratulations!!

As a guy with (too) many projects, I think that you did the best thing in cutting your time losses so that you will have the bandwidth and energy to conquer other projects. There's really nothing worse than a life leech of a task. May Bast look fondly upon you and your new space!

Losing a bus and getting a building in the process is a pretty good trade-off! It's a bummer the bus is gone, but I'd rather see you happier with all your mini projects instead of dreading one big project!

I totally forgot about the back part of the shop being subterranean. If you call it “busless”, you will really never be rid of the bus project, move on and call it something else… Mordor comes to mind.

Well, I'm sad to see the bus project ending, but I understand-a lot has happened since you started that thing, and it's nice to hear you sound a little more enthusiastic about playing in that space again.

Great job not succumb into sunk cost! It can be very difficult to let go of a project midway through, but sometimes you have to do it. Also I think the new room should be called the gutter room, but said really quickly like it's one word "gutteroom" haha

When you said "And power on" after working on that live breaker, the face you made looks a lot like Dr. Emmitt Brown from Back To The Future, when he finds out that Marty back in 1955 has the thing that he just found out about the night before.
