Yep!!! I’m old enough to remember the only concerns when seeing a movie were - getting a good seat, not having a tall person sit in front of you and not having TALKERS near you. Nowadays, the seating issue (and someone’s head in front of you blocking the screen) has been taken care of - and honestly, talkers are no longer a problem. It’s 101% cell phones. That bright ass glow and the fact that they hold it up like a foot from their face so we can all see what they’re looking at during the movie. You’d think that they could at least dial down the brightness and hold it down by their lap if they MUST look at it. Another issue- dim dying bulbs in the projector. So many times I’ve seen a movie and can barely see what’s happening - and it’s completely because the bulbs haven’t been replaced!! Lastly- the other theatre-going issue I despise is when the projector forgets to turn the theatre lights off when the movie starts!

If I were a theater owner I would train the audience to act accordingly by doing some or all of the following ; 1) No babies ! Movies are entertainment. A baby can be fascinated by a burning building , a dying butterfly or a dead bird .. they are getting zero , nada, nothing out of a bunch a people screaming at each, or making love , or fighting , or flying a plane into a bridge on a big screen ! 2: No phones on in the theater ! Ever! If a phone goes off they must be escorted out ! House rules ! If they refuse ban them ! 3) introduce the damn movie and thank them for coming and making this experience a joint effort in quiet , visual entertainment! Talking is not going to be entertained in this establishment so if you came here to resolve your marriage issues, take it outside in the bar area . 4) Start the damn movie immediately at the time you say your movie STARTS! Not 3 coke ads, 2 theater ads for concessions , not movie trivia for 12 minutes amd 4 seconds , not 8 trailers and a pop up for XD , the actual fkng time you have on the Marquee

Theaters needs to survive but there's conditions that are needed to be taken in such as annoying moviegoers, ticket prices being way too high, keep the little babies at home (unless you can make kids behave well or you can't afford a babysitter), take the iPads and such away from kids, keep the damn cellphones turned off on silence or brightness turned down and the worst case scenario....stop talking during the movie and wait until it's over. Theaters needs to start enforcing extreme rules for all of that so people can go and watch theaters. Also, cut down the trailers and commercials to at least 3 or 5. And the number one thing is for all of the annoying people i mentioned, if they can't behave properly, they can wait at least 3-6 months before it comes out in theaters.

I don’t go to the movies anymore because, due to the increasingly short time between a movie’s theatrical release and being able to watch it at home, the theaters have put themselves in direct competition with the home viewing experience. Why would I pay a premium to sit in a dark room of strangers when, a lot of times, I can watch the same flick, at home, on the day of its theatrical release? If it isn’t day and date, can just wait 2-3 months for it to drop on VOD/streaming/cable. As the increasingly powerful home consoles made arcades obsolete, so has this release schedule done for the theaters. Convenience always wins out.

i used to have these issues with bigger movie chains, like Marcus and AMC... but then i discovered The Alamo Drafthouse, which is a godsend. they enforce phone bans and not talking. and the people who do attend the Drafthouse near me are cinephiles who are respectful. avoid the childrens' theaters if at all possible. i've never had such good movie theater experiences as with Alamo Drafthouse.

One of the things that bothers me the most is teenagers theater hopping. They'll come at random points during the movie, leave after a few minutes, and sometimes come back. It's something I never understood. I've also experienced people asking me to leave my seat in an empty theater after they arrived more than 10 minutes late.

Over the past few years, I've had plenty of great movie theater experiences over at Cineplex. Let me tell you my favorite experiences of all time: 1. Avengers: Endgame (2019) 2. Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) 3. Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) 4. Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse (2023) 5. The Batman (2022) On the other hand Adam, I understand where you are coming from. The one thing that gets on my nerves when going to the theater is when a baby starts kicking the seat in front of them making the person who is sitting in said seat uncomfortable and angry. Last year on Boxing Day, me and my family went and saw the Bollywood movie Dunki. About halfway through the movie, my young brother started kicking the seat in front of me and kept crying about dropping his toy and losing it! It was so bad to the point where the person in front gave my brother a dirty look and said to my dad: "You need to get your kid under control." That's the reason why I decided to go to the theater with a group of friends instead of my parents.

I go to the Alamo only. I am guaranteed a good time every time. Victory Reward!! Four tickets for $7.80 total. I can't remember what it was like to go to the cinema as a plebian and have to suffer the misery. Sometimes we roll by a Regal on our way to the Alamo so that we can point and chuckle as we head off to Eden. I've never thought about how people have become accustomed to bad habits at home as they watch their streaming movie, and now bring those bad habits to the cinema.

I just had an Alamo open an hour from me in Naples, FL. I went on opening day. While I appreciate the staffing level, the Alamo is a whole NEW set of disrupting problems. From the waiters hunching over through the aisle to deliver food and drinks next to you every five minutes, to the damn menu lights you can't turn off underneath the tray arm. I literally sat through all of The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare with the menu propped-up on my crossed knee and balanced against the arm, so I didn't see that light in the corner of my eye. Annoying.

Certainly different here in AUS, prices are like 20-25 dollars for a ticket depending on what theatre and seats you want. Usually moviegoers are very quiet through the duration of the film but there is always that one person who’s phone rings 15 minutes into the movie. No one cheers/ claps during or after the film, only time that ever happened was of course avengers end game.

You are correct, people have allowed phones to ruin the experience of going to a movie theater. Even if they aren't talking on the phones, just having to see that little blue rectangle light up go off and light up again constantly. It's just incredibly annoying. The only time I don't see it very much is when I go to foreign films or films that are aimed at an adult audience and those are mostly what I go to. But still I'd rather stay home and watch movies on the TV in my own environment

Hey, man. I like your video. I myself live in San Antonio, Texas, have been most of my life. Just to let you know, I was born in 1970. To be honest, I myself do not go to the movie as much. However, when Titanic first came out here in San Antonio, Texas, I was there opening weekend. I was blown away by the acting and the cinematography. How Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet did not win both categories of best actor and best actress in the major film. It's beyond me. Those at the Academy who did not vote for them should be eternally punished. That single movie experience was one of the best of my life. I've ever had to this day. To be fair, long before that, around 1988, my cousins took me to Los Angeles, California where I saw, for the first time, The Rocketeer on the big screen. I enjoyed it very much. I even bought the comic book. Now days, i stay home and watch reruns on TV, and I think I'm better off for it. Don't you think?

i don't think theaters will disappear. what we're starting to see more is movies made with smaller budgets, by smaller production companies. if a movie theater is only going to show the big budget crap (like Marvel or DC) they need to sell way more tickets to compensate for the price. if we have smaller movie theaters showing lower-budget films, the true cinemaphiles will bring their wallets. it's a pattern similar to music: it used to be that a band would require an expensive studio and record label to promote the hell out of them, and now we're in a period in which people can record in their own homes, mix and master the audio on their PC, distribute via BandCamp, and promote via music blogs. in my eyes, art is continually getting better as time marches on. it just takes some work discovering the more niche artists, be they musicians or filmmakers. Hollywood will rarely put out something great these days, but smaller horror films and companies like A24 are filling the gaps.

The local AMC I work at I try to make sure people have the best experience as possible. In two auditoriums there are dimmable lights they just don't dim all the way. It doesn't seem to bother anyone I think mostly because everyone just focuses what's on the screen. Plus the technology at my local amc is old and we desperately need an upgrade. I understand you can't please everyone but you don't need to act like a jerk.

First the postitives of going to the movies now compared to the past. First the theaters are kept much cleaner, they used to be dirty, mostly not being cleaned until after the theater was closed. Other postives, I remember going to see the movie RUNNING MAN with Arnold Scwarzenneger, and realizing that there was a break in the film strip. As we did not see how Maria Conchita Alonzo all of a sudden was in the world of THE RUNNING MAN. I brought this up to the general manager of the place, and she had no idea. I don't see tis now. The last time there was some problem was in San Francisco with the movie HAVANA, with Robert Redford. that break really breaking apart for me waht had been a good movie. Also, I do feel that people are better behaved than they used to be in the theater, whether it be the 70's esppecially . Yeah, I am old 67. What I don't like today is that a film is supposed to start at a certain time, but it is trilers instead which often run 15 minutes. Also if a film is very long, you don't seem to have an intermission anymore. You used to even have it for films less than 140 minutes. I would have gone to see that MOON film of SCORCESES, but did not because of the run time. I often have to go to the bathroom, and the theater people need to realize this. I have a large TV, and often feel I get a movie experinece that is better than the theater experiinece.

@@awakenedsoul No, you don’t understand. The whole industry ecosystem will collapse and nothing will take its place. Netflix movies are a rare exception, since they make most of their money from companies licensing their old movies to be streamed on Netflix. Big budget event films rely on box office to make money. It’s the only to justify the enormous cost of making these movies in the first place.Streaming is not profitable for them. If theaters go away, so will these films, and if these films go away, then the line of old movies to license on streaming platforms will abruptly cease. Hence… no more movies.
