George was just inducted into the 2023 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame! He received over one million fan votes that put him in the number one position. In fact, he received the highest fan vote count as a Solo Artist! An amazing singer, songwriter and philanthropist who is missed by all of us.

Excellent reaction! You called it. This was George's "last stop" before the "Faith era" and he even said "I kept my faith" in the song. I've always loved this. Two vocal powerhouses collaborating.

Thank you! I appreciate that. This being the heartbeat before Faith makes the song that much more interesting.

Great reaction. I think George Michael was more than happy to give the spotlight to Aretha. He did the same with Whitney and Mary J. Blige, two other duets he’s recorded and released . There is a song he did with Jody Watley which is great, but apparently his record label didn’t let it be released as a single. It’s on her self titled album .

It’s a Grammy award winning number one. In fact, this gave Aretha Franklins her first. and only number one in the UK. At this point George being in his very early 20s was very honored to have sung with Aretha. Aretha‘s camp actually asked him to produce and write an album for her. Needless to say he was very intimidated by that and declined. He could not imagine having to direct and tell Aretha what to do. Those were his words in an interview. This is a fantastic duet, and I never get tired of listening to it.

It says something that Aretha wanted George to write and produce her. Too bad they didn’t later do something like that.

I liked the video, especially the Ike and Tina video footage, and Sony and Cher. I like that they are both different types of singers who seemed to meet in the middle and at other places in the track bounce off each other.

I like the other famous duets in the snippets. Suggesting that they are hopefully going to be added to that group. And they definitely were. What a HUGE HIT IT WAS

When George did his “Faith” tour in Detroit, Aretha showed up n they performed this track. I remember he had a red handkerchief around his head. This took Aretha back up the charts and number one in England

I heard that this video was shot in the basement of Aretha's house. The clip was elegantly simple yet oozed with an abundance of confidence and star power. The undeniable chemistry between George and Aretha was palpable, and the hit song leaves a lasting impact. In short, it's absolute fire!

The other singers shown were couples because it was a love song. Aretha personally requested George sing with her. He'd already done some duets with HUGE Motown greats. She wanted him to produce it as well, but he didn't feel like he knew enough at the time even though he'd done almost all of Wham!'s work. There's so many awesome stories out there about this duet and bts moments.

Here is Aretha talking about how this came to be (not her request, but Clive Davis asked her to do it) kzbin.info/www/bejne/ioHOpHWIf7-EiJY

@Mic I remember hearing two different sides. I always take the middle ground. I can see Clive Davis arranging this duet. He is a genius legend for good reasons. I want to link two interviews to add to the story. George's side and the producer, Narada Michael Walden's view. It shows very different sides. I can't find where I heard she requested him, but I think some of the inconsistencies make me curious about the truth of it. Narada's interview is a bit on the lengthy side at about 20 minutes. George's is a couple of minutes. Narada: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJ6roJyflNGfmcU George: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g4HOd5mZoMtmhdk It's worth a listen if you're a fan of either artist.

You need to do Whitney and George's song " If I told you that " and Whitney with Enrique Iglesias. " Could I have this kiss forever", they're both 🔥duets as well!

You commented on George's outfit in this video. George commented on the outfit and overall image on his next album. The Song and video for "Freedom" addressed all of it. The soul remix for "Freedom" went further lyrically. (Spoiler) George started limiting his appearance in his own videos and the physical singles and 12 inch records and started Fading out his face over time. By the mid 90s it was just the song title on the Singles. George really wanted his fans to hear the Lyrics. Sony thought it was a great idea to set him up for a duet with Michael Jackson in the 90s. George flew across the ocean to see if it would work but Michael was rude in person and would only talk to George through a third person and wouldn't even look George in the face. Even after that George still lent his vocals to Whitney's duet (She stood him up in the studio because she was on a binge). George and Mary J Blige also did a duet cover of Stevie Wonder's "As".

George did appear in a few videos in the mid 90s for his Older album released 1996. The idea to get together with Michael Jackson was in the mid 80s - just before George went solo. Sony hadn’t taken over CBS label at that point. You’re right about the way MJ treated him though which is why George declined to work with him.

So one of the biggest hits by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell was Ain't No Mountain High Enough. I feel like that was the reference they were going for.
