Everything he said is spot on. I've got infinite respect for the police. My 7 year old son was terrified of the police, (No idea why), and on a day out to Tenby we went to the lifeboat station. 2 police officers who happened to be walking past popped in. My son got a look of horror on his face so I went up to one of them and explained my son was scared of the police and would he mind just saying hello to him? That wasn't good enough for this man, he KNELT ON THE FLOOR next to my son and spent 20 minutes chatting to him. My son isn't afraid of the police now thanks to that man.

To have a Police Station right above one of these has got to make it the best security Mcdonalds could ask for. Presence of a police base on hand for immediate response, low risk crime in the area, officers have one less area to worry about.

No wonder there's so many British police here in Canada. Working for the Edmonton Police Service as a first year Constable you make $67,414 CAD ( that's just over £39,000). As a second year Constable, you earn $71,439 (which is just short of £42,000). That's not even accounting for shift differentials, overtime and special events pay. That's a remarkable difference. I would have thought the UK would have a bigger budget for policing.

I see a few americans in this thread saying that as long as you dont pull out a weapon or look like you are going to pull a weapon you will be fine. However in england even actually having say a knife if its of a legal length and you have a good reason for having it will not result in any hostility from a police officer. For example, i have had police called on me and my friends because we had a knife. We were having a picnic in a forested area, listening to music and my friend who brought his carving knife was practicing with it. Apparently some people walking past saw it and called the police, some officers calmly walked up to us and casually asked if we had a knife. when we said yes he again calmly got out a ruler and measured it, when he saw it was of legal length he simply gave it back, adviced us not to have it out in public so we dont scare people and left. There was no anger or hostility, actually while he was measureing the knife he made polite conversation with us. Even if we had pulled the knife on him and attempted to attack him i doubt he would have badly harmed or killed us, because uk police are trained to disarm and stop criminals without injuring them.
@fenther58676 жыл бұрын
@dexterhd29Ok... That is just all wrong, like all of it. Firstly I'm fairly sure the US had a court ruling about how the police don't actually have to protect you: m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/oHLJhnyVnaqHr5I while I realise this is an extreme case the point still stands. Secondly what Muslims are getting away with rape or murder? Where are you getting that from? You say the British police run and hide? You realise half of this video was about how they don't, did you watch it all? (also the police officer at a recent school shooting in the US who just stayed out of the building springs to mind...) Finally you say they don't care about race or religion but there are constant stories in the news of US police officers being racist.

@Cringey bulgarian live Streams In Sixth Form, I had a teacher who was a former police officer, and not only did he confirm that police officers can be majorly racist and are in fact encouraged to preserve racial bias in the police force, he brought in a couple of kids -- one a working class white kid, another a black kid -- to tell us about how, as young teenagers, they'd already been unjustly targeted by the police. When you bring in the downturn in government funding that Theresa May has been implementing, you find that it leads to police officers trying to keep up their arrest quotas, trying to do the same work with less -- all it does is incentivise them to police minority ethnic communities more, stop and frisk young lads just for wearing hoodies or daring to walk in a group while black in order to grab 'easy targets' and keep up their quotas. I have black friends who regularly complain about being followed around shops by security guards -- and this is in North-East England, mind you. At last year's New Years Eve celebration in London, the police were focusing on the parade grounds at the Thames, which allowed at least four stabbings to occur in poorer areas of London, all because there weren't enough officers about to respond. I want to say that more funding will prevent 'thrifty solutions' like preserving institutional racism in the police force, but first, we need to tackle it in the officers we have now, and we can't afford to just wait until the old guard who teach this racism retire. The police can be of great help, but as Russell Howard said and you're saying as well, that only truly applies if you're white. We cannot live in a country where your experiences with the police differ depending on your ethnicity. Thank God this isn't the US, where black Americans have to teach their children that the police are dangerous to them and how to interact with them to make sure they come back home alive. But we cannot say this country is innocent.

This is the result of a Conservative government.

Actually most stories of American police brutality are fake/heavily manipulated/lacking context. If you want to see the truth about police then don't go to news articles, nor Twitter feeds, but instead watch actual body camera footage that starts from the second the officers get on scene. The channel "Donut Operator" does a great job of this, he breaks down police shooting showing full context, I'd suggest you watch his videos and maybe even compare them to how the media covered the same exact shooting. I used to think the same as you on American police, then I discovered this magical thing called context which cleared everything out, shame the media hasn't discovered it yet

The big difference over here is that if you are kicked out of the police for anything, there is a national register and you are done. No joining the coastguard, prison service or even a job as a security officer. Also none of the “resigning before you get fired” and join the sheriffs department next county over.

East London back in the 70s. There was a lot of noise outside, so I looked out of the window. There was a large group of Asian lads and a large group of black lads moving purposefully towards each other. They were only a dozen or so yards apart when this one PC stepped in between the two groups - and just stood three. Didn't say anything, didn't make a move. He just stood there and kept them apart by his mere presence. A minute or so later there were sirens all over the place and a lot more police arrived, but that one copper held those two groups, clearly intent on trouble, at bay simply by being there. They could have wiped the floor with him - but one man stopped what would have been a very nasty situation.
