Out of all the interpretations of this part in the story, this one is my favorite, cause it takes a very relatable approach to the situation. When Joseph knows the baker is going to be executed, he doesn't just flat out say he's going to die. Because lets be honest, how can you just tell someone you KNOW they are going to die? It's such a powerful moment.

The baker's attitude in this film isn't the same as in the Bible though, he was actually hopeful that he might get good tidings as well from Joseph's interpretation of his dream after hearing that the cup bearer did.
@Adamguy20036 күн бұрын
If memory serves, in the actual Bible story, A) The birds in the Baker's dream don't attack him, they just eat all the bread from his baskets. B) The Baker was hanged, not beheaded.
@DisneyFanatic23646 күн бұрын
I think the "hanged" might've been a result of European mistranslation, because that was more popular in Medieval Europe than Ancient Egypt.

Every time I hear the fat guy say "It's not a gift, It's a curse." I can't help but think that he's right Joseph's ability to predict the future through dreams is both a gift and a curse, especially when it comes to predicting the possible fates of others. That's an ability that I would never want to have. Knowing other people's destinies and then having to weigh it on their minds, it would be too much for anyone to bear.

In the long run it ended up being a great gift though. He saved the lives of hundreds of people through his ability to read and interpret people’s dreams.

The baker's attitude here is inaccurate to the Bible; he was actually hopeful after hearing the interpretation of the cup bear's dream. I'm pretty sure DreamWorks just decide to depict him as spiteful because they wanted it to feel more deserved from audience's perspective, considering that the Bible doesn't tell us exactly why the Pharaoh had the baker imprisoned and later executed. Still, it's just plain misleading.

I love how humble they made Joseph about his gift in this movie. In children books, and the actual bible for thta matter, he always sounded so arrogant regarding his dream of his brother's bowing to him. In this version he was telling it just to his mother and Jacob overheard and made a big deal of it and made the brothers antagonistic towards him. He was very empathetic in not wanting to bring bad news to the baker, knowing full well what fate awaited him, and he looks genuinely upset by having this power, even if is for something positive
@sethinneonКүн бұрын
Actually in the film he did brag about it in front of his brothers. Go back and watch it.
@danielnemesio3388Күн бұрын
@sethinneon he did it in a playful way without realizing it was a prophecy. He was like "you guys are just saying that because you don't know of my dream", like locker room talk. He didn't act like his dream wasn't more than a dream, he confided in his mother Rachel about it and Jacob overheard it, and then the dad make it to be a big thing and made the brothers feel lesser

We don't know what they each did or were suspected of doing. A theory I've heard was that the Baker was part of a plot to try and assassinate the Pharaoh, and the Butler/ Cupbearer was initially suspected of being involved as well, but turned out to be innocent and thus was released.

This scene is Biblically incorrect. The Baker was actually hopeful after hearing that the cup bearer's dream interpretation was good and was horrified after hearing that his was bad. I guess Dreamworks wanted to make it seem justified for the Baker to be executed; but the truth is that the Bible doesn't explain why Pharaoh had the chief cup bearer and chief baker imprisoned in the first place, why he had the cup bearer reinstated, or why he had the baker executed. All we know is that it was God's plan for the cup bearer to be restored so that he would remember Joseph 2 years later, when the Pharaoh had dreams of his own; thus, Joseph would be able to warn Pharaoh about the Famine and how to prepare for it. Thus, Joseph would be able to save his family, fulfilling the prophecy of his own dreams from before he was sold into slavery.
