It's great to know that it will take a long time. There are so many videos that make it seem like it might take a couple of days or weeks to handstand.
@CaliToTheCrowd3 жыл бұрын
I won't lie, those videos were sooooo frustrating to watch! I also think some of them are so fake! 'I learned how to handstand in 1 week' is just pure BS - unless you have some sort of background in handbalance.
@Hand1r2 жыл бұрын
It takes different times for every person but some say like 4 days and that’s just a big lie
@realrx2306 Жыл бұрын
it all depends how hard you train dawg, if your willing to put in hours of effort every day then your going to make months of progress within a few weeks, i trained hard as shit and got a static handstand in a month. And frogstand to handstand in a week. L sit to handstand two weeks later. It all depends on the amount of effort your willing to put in towards your goals

Thank you for this video. The timing coincides with my own intuition of progressing from frog stand to handstand. I can hold a frog stand 30+, sometimes 60 seconds, so I am pretty confident with it. Despite this success, I have felt stuck going beyond it. I think given the success in this area I think I have a better route to the handstand if I progress from frog to handstand in the way you describe. Thanks again!

Four years ago I began a goal to get from frogstand to handstands. I developed a mean frogstand game, as well as some other calisthenics skills, and I could kick up into a handstand well enough and even do some wall based hsps. However, my progression with the handstands was slow and finding the balance to kick up in free space seemed like it would take me forever. So that goal became elusive and I stopped trying so hard. I now see that rather than focus so much on getting the handstands before developing the strength and technique to push from frog to handstand may have been a mistake. Thank you.
@CaliToTheCrowd Жыл бұрын
Yeah it can be an extremely frustrating journey but there Can be method to the handstand madness. I personally found having more than enough strength to do the advance frog stand, helped A LOT with overall handstanding so hopefully this works for you too! Keep pushing, and good luck! 💪🏿

Great question. I had the same problem myself on my early attempts and the key is to have a solid frog stand to begin with (hips high, strong pushing strength). Use this video to help you get a strong base: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2enpKuZqttnjtU And once you have a good 20s frog stand hold, work on your pike push ups to develop the pushing strength that will get you to a point where you can take one leg off then take off the other leg. Good luck Alex, and I'm always around if you have any more Qs 💪🏿

@shamhanisayev8591 Жыл бұрын
I might be wrong, but I believe that you relied on the walls too much and maybe you didnt push yourself hard enough to be able to achieve this much much faster. I have achieved this much faster ( 4 months ) by really pushing myself to do crazy stuff like 50 to 100 wall assisted handstand push ups, pike push ups, pike holds, jumping on my hands again and again and again. I even stretched my legs and back for the handstand press. I already knew what to do and who to look for on the internet (mainly Gabo Saturno and Sondre Berg), because I have been fascinated by the handstand for forever, but never put in the work. The reason I went so hard is probably because I set very high expectations: 60 seconds hold and handstand press ( the elegant one that Gabo does ). After 4 months I had a personal record of 44 seconds in holding the handstand and I could do the handstand straddle press. So, I have gotten very close my goals. HAD I PUT MORE TIME IN IT, THEN I WOULD HAVE ACHIEVED THIS IN A LITTLE OVER A MONTH OR SO. So for the comments saying that it takes very long is not true. It depends on how hard you are willing to push to get there and how much time you are willing to invest in it every day or week.
@CaliToTheCrowd Жыл бұрын
Yup! That was one of the things I wanted to highlight here. I probably made every mistake you can make, but I still got there in the end. Hoping a video like this will help others avoid the mistakes I made myself!

@shamon39462 жыл бұрын
Hey man I rly love your videos . I noticed that in the video you said you were treating the handstand as a strength excercise and only doing it on push days . I’ve been doing a similar thing. I’m getting into calisthenics so I wanted to try to build up to an lsit and frog stand on my push days, Skin the cats on the pull days, and pistol squats on my leg days. Should I reduce the amount of things I’m trying to learn and try to do these movements everyday or is it fine if I do it just 2x a week.
@CaliToTheCrowd2 жыл бұрын
From my personal experience, I would say 'yes'. The handstand is one of those skills that DRASTICALLY benefits from regular practice, and juggling too many goals will take away from teh quality that you can train at. For reference, i typically have one skill goal that covers: Push, Pull and flexibility, where one is always the priority. For example, using what you have mentioned here, I would suggest you target: Push: handstand Pull: Skin the cat Flexibility: pike flexibility this way, you will indirectly get the pistol squad and frog stand anyways. Keep working hard and good luck, Shamon! 👊🏿
@shamon39462 жыл бұрын
@@CaliToTheCrowd ok so if I’m understanding you right. I should work on Handstands frequently and almost everyday right? Is it ok if I keep the L sit in my push day cuz I’ve almost got the hang of it. And then you’re saying to then do Skin the cat for pull and Pike flexibility for the legs. I was doing some research and people told me to do a pistol squat movement on an elevated platform with your other leg hanging a lil ahead of you to get that mobility that you need for the pistol squat. Should I continue doing this or should I stop and focus on pike flexibility.

Awesome work Andrew! I am in exactly the same situation! I started doing the frog handstand skill last week so lets see how far I will be by end of 2022! How tall are you by the way? @CaliToTheCrowd2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Anthony! I'm not actually that tall (178.5cm) but you're right, my leg length to height ratio is quite high so horizontal pushing and pulling movements will likely be a challenge - but I just see that as an added challenge that will prove to people watching these videos that it's still possible.
