@@kapumbasipo Ok so I’m still working on leveling out my Ollie’s but I can try and give u some tips. Ok so I heard timing is a big problem for me heres the timing. 1. Squat 2. Pop and start sliding front foot up. (It’s almost at the same time but the slide is a bit delayed) 3. Slide front foot up to nose 4. Push front foot a bit toward to level out the board Make sure to try and stay over the board and I really recommend just standing there and practicing the front foot slide for a few minutes everyday. Reason I really recommend doing this is because when I first started doing Ollie’s I noticed my foot wasn’t really sliding up to the nose but kinda just like flexing and barely sliding and once I started practicing the slide thing everyday my Ollie’s improved. If u have any specific questions I can try and give u tips if u want (:

And then once u think u got the slide better u can try and Ollie and while u do it really try and focus on the slide and look down to see whether ur front foot is sliding or not. If u have already watched tutorials I really recommend watching sean browns tutorials his tutorials can be really helpful!

He's given the same kickflip advice thousands of times. He's done camps, workshops, charity, being nice down the skatepark, all where he has given advice on how to kickflip. Tony will be first to tell u, despite being the vert goat, his street skating isn't as high a standard. His kickflip on street, isn't the best of kickflips.

Respect man! I started skating when I was probably 13 and skated almost everyday till I was like 25. Life happened, and blah blah blah, whatever. Seeing your drive to learn really makes me want to get my board out and go cruise around. It took me a solid 4 months of consistently trying to learn kickflips, but I already had my balance figured out along with other simple tricks. For you to go from a sloppy Ollie to kick flips in way less than a month is incredible. Props to you man. And to Tony just for being the legend that he is

I think anyone can learn to kickflip in a week, but it's kind of dangerous if you don't have a solid foundation. That's why I think a lot of skaters take a year to really build a foundation and learn other tricks before they try to learn kickflip and also with that foundation you can incorporate that kickflip knowledge into other tricks that you already have like 180s and shove it easier
@kapumbasipo

@@kapumbasipo I feel the reason people find it takes a lot of time is because they probably haven’t really gotten a really good slide on Ollie’s cuz with kick flips it’s really mainly about the flick on the side. People also really have trouble landing on the board cuz they kinda kick it away or don’t stay over the board

It‘s not bad but it‘s not super impressive. Good effort of him tho. (But it isn‘t his first time skating. Like he got the basic basics down… that is a big difference to first time standing on a board). Most people take longer to learn a kickflip but the thing is skating isn‘t just about being able to kickflip. And the guys who start skating and really wanna learn skating learn a lot in the time till they land their first kickflip. Like their target isn’t just landing a kickflip standing. They wanna learn skating in all it’s facets. Also it makes more sense to learn other tricks first if u wanna progress quick.
@nickdeluca6914
@nickdeluca6914 Жыл бұрын
The bigger factor I think that holds people back is their Inherit balance skill combined with their athletic ability to jump and move a board with their feet. People always underestimate how much physical effort it takes, some people need to build the strength before they can land anything. But if you're young and play basketball or are generally athletic and skinny with decent balance you can %100 learn to kickflip in a week but your shins will look like it went through a blender by the end XD

Another good tip that he may or may not have told you is that if you want to stick the landing and keep your balance afterwards its good to visualize where your trucks are, and try to land with your feet directly over them, this will widen your stance and make you more stable as you roll out of it. I also would say its best to not practice the trick sitting in one spot, but instead get a slow rolling start and practice getting that solid landing while you're still moving, and lean forward a little more to compensate for the momentum and avoid slipping back

I usually dont leave a lot of comments in YT. I am 43. Have been on a skateboard last week (for exactly) one day. Just stayed on the board without falling down. I consider that an achievement. In this video you taught the real meaning for a lot of words including resolution, passion, purpose... You gave it your all, for a full week. Dislocated shoulder or what, you were resolved to learn and achieve what you set out to. That gives motivation to do a lot of things - not necessarily on a skateboard. Will be sending this video to anyone who is in need of some inspiration.

I met Tony twice on accident, both times just going to the skatepark. 1st time at NASA Houston- they built a full vert, 2nd time at Southside skatepark in Houston, both were random and got 2 birdhouse decks signed by him.

This is amazing! I’ve been skating since I was 12 and it took me almost 2 years to land a kickflip and let’s say I dropped in before I landed a kickflip

I was in disbelief at first, someone landing a kickflip in 1 week. I’ve onky been skating myself for 1 week and i got decent ollies and shuvits but thats it. But then I saw your broken vans and I respect the grind man, you’re insane

That was freakin cool.. the emotional battle (and physical) is what it’s all about with skating!! I can’t believe you landed it in 7 (or 8 😂) days!! Amazing work.. now keep skating. Next task is back side 50/50 on coping 😉

Never seen a single video you have made before. I was also a 80-90s baby. I remember watching Tony do the first 900 live. Great video bro. Really great. Been skateboarding for like 20 years almost. You should try shredding some big hills next. Big rush bro.

crazy.. I stopped the video on his learning process in the garage and said the exact same thing as tony what his problem was with shifting away his body backwards and watch the board flip. I can remember I had the EXACT same problem back then with my buddies when we were kids. I can really remember it, the way I shifted my body backwards. If you are at this point with your kickflips, you have to stop and figure out what the problem is and really getting it in your head and constantly think about it, or your would end up keep doing the same mistake for months. The root of it comes down to fear, thinking you would slip away when you try to land on the board after flipping it. You really have to know what the problem is and hammer it in your head and think about it everytime you start to flip "don't turn your body away, don't lean backwards, stay at the same sideways position when you start to flip and lean into it, and don't give a shit if you slip away after landing - just do it"
