The shell didn't get softened, that was the membrain. The shell is made of calcium and it dissolved in the toilet cleaner.

I use leather gloves for welding and we use a pickling acid to clean the weld burns from the steel. They also turn red when in contact with that acid.

Joseph Joestar I worked at a car wash and the acid we used to clean the walls turned my leather gloves purple but it would go away after like 20 minutes. Didn’t effect my bear hands but took coloring off my ring after no scratches for 3 years pure tungsten

The shell came out of the jar when you poured out the toilet bowl cleaner. That is the membrane that is under the shell. Think hard boiled, and that skin that's on there.

Common leather tanning uses a chemical that’s a purple in color that’s used to dissolve all remaining fats and protein left over the animal. Then that gets washed off and your left with the basic leather. In additional processes coloring, sealers, and buffers are added for obvious reasons. So the purple is probably was left over from the tanning die. I’d bet if you put a higher quality leather in their it would do that.

Me and my mom clean houses for a living and let me tell you, The Works is the BEST thing to clean the toilet bowl when there's alot of built up grime. Alot of our clients only hire us around the holidays or when they've got visitors coming and the dont clean very often so this stuff is a time saver for sure.

The dye in the CLR is absorbed into leather easily, any thread soaked in any liquid will dissolve at a time depending on solvent
