A HOLLYWOOD burlesque dancer has swapped Sunset Blvd for dirt roads in Iowa as she finally confronts the father who told her ‘she’d never be loved’ as a transgender woman. Cassandra Cass, 41, was a 14-year-old farm boy with no qualifications, when she left Iowa to pursue her dream of becoming a woman. News of her departure and decision to transition shocked the rural community she came from and caused a rift between Cassandra and her father Bill, 75, for many years. Although the father and daughter are now on speaking terms this is the first time Cassandra will see her father since the pandemic. The two have agreed to have a no-holds barred conversation about the past in the hope that it will bring them closer together - but there’s every chance it could further draw apart the father and daughter.

Why is it an issue of eww it is burlesque show? She isn't nude, she is playing a role ... Now as for the dad not going, I believe it is that their relationship is still mending. In some ways things seem to be ok between them while other ways the there is a guard up .. but you can't blame either for that.. 2 different generations, I am sure without a mom in the picture to give that buffer between the 2 doesn't help, the loss of Corey I am sure set both of them back in some ways because he had become the buffer.. Cassandra is fabulous, fierce and beautiful. I love the fact that even though Cassandra and her dad have an over complicated relationship, at least they still communicate and his still in her life. Sadly, when some people transition they get completely disowned and abandoned. 💕💕💕

I feel bad for her, though. Though they're communicating, her dad's farewell "have a good one" felt more like something he'd say to an acquaintance than his own child. That is as confusing for the family as it was in the beginning for the person who transitioned. Learning the gender of your soon to baby is the first connection families have and fall in love with, them for it to switch that drastically is a HUGE adjustment. It takes time, but family deserves the same space and time to come to terms as the person transitioning.

Devil's advocate; I wonder if the dad just feels uncomfortable seeing her preform from a parental standpoint? My whole family moved to Seattle from Michigan right before I was born, so my dad is very old school midwestern... I'm 28 fm and although I'm very close with him, I really wouldn't feel comfortable myself. (This is just my opinion as an outsider looking in, so please don't come for me. I respect the hell out of this woman and we should celebrate her!!!)

I'm around the same age, but it's hard to watch, because they're really inappropriate and pushy. Maybe there's an audience for it, but to me, they push for people to demean themselves by making it feel that they can only get attention and money by showing off their bodies inappropriately - it's unacceptable to me. Trans people need to meet their families where they are, just as they want their families to meet them. Everyone is not going to accept everything you do and every choice you make, and that’s okay. Just because you are trans doesn’t mean you get to dictate other people’s feelings. Her father has accepted her but why must he attend her burlesque show? If he feels uncomfortable, respect that and understand he’s allowed to have feelings and boundaries. Just because a person has decided to travel a given path in life, doesn’t mean they are entitled to determine how everyone else moves on the path or if they decide on another path altogether, no matter who you are. This woman is blessed to have a father that loves and welcomes her. She should be very grateful considering how many people don’t, trans or not.

I would never want to see my son or daughter perform burlesque or strip or anything like that. In my opinion, that's inappropriate. You can be supportive of your kid without having to release all your boundaries to do so. To each thier own I guess. In general when people say hard hateful or hurtful things there is a type of dissonance . I understand, she said what needed to be said to her father. She can invite him out to California but must also understand he may never fully be able to be part of her life. Their relationship may be one of “I love my father he does not accept that I am a trans woman fully but I know deep down he loves me.” Sometimes life can be that way. I think it's absolutely amazing and fantastic. The transformation trans people go through is just unbelievable. It's nice to hear someone who goes through the transformation and have parents at least one of them except them for who they are and not who they think they should be.
