Lynn!!! You being so transparent about why you left your agent partnership & prioritizing what YOU wanted for your career is just so inspiring as someone who just signed with an agency. It's just really good to hear! Thank you for your vids as always, your content is so comforting!!

Very agreed on establishing character intros with solidity and uniqueness. On a related train of thought ... as important as it is to get plot beats rights, the quickest way to actually make plot work and to give the world a living, breathing quality is to treat the characters as if they ARE the plot. Because they are. Unless you're following a force of nature like a lightning storm or earthquake, events don't happen unless people do things. All in all your video was a pocket of happiness today. I've gotten through half of NaNo with 11,350 words. I've taken it slow and it's paid off for what I'm trying to do.

GREAT insights and very true-character-driven actions and scenes are so critical for compelling plots! Congrats on writing so much, that's amazing. :) and thank you for watching!

sooo stoked that ESTHER PARK is out 💞 !! it's legit one of my fav short fiction pieces I've read all year! I love this update so much and I'm so excited for you to find the agent that's reflective of where you are now as a writer :)) your stories deserve so much time in the spotlight. I really appreciate how much you talk about craft and what craft means to you. a lot of the writing community online bends towards lifestyle/aesthetic (which I love!) but craft discussions just tickle that part of my brain that nothing else does hehe. you're fostering such a lovely writing space in this corner of YT 💛🌈

thank you so much kris, that means so much especially since you read a slightly rougher draft haha! agreed, I love being able to focus my content onto craft lately, although I do enjoy sharing my lifestyle stuff too lol (and I'll definitely be doing a lottt more of that once I hit the road again!)

AW KELLEY thank you so much!!! hehe you're going to make me blush omg. I feel that about gravitating toward the same themes!! nothing wrong with writing from the heart/what you know, but I'm kinda like damn. I gotta branch out HAHA. THANK YOU SO MUCH I will definitely reach out for a beta read when the whole thing is done and relatively ready!! and ty for the support!!

I love these monthly writing updates! It sounds like you've made a lot of personal growth and progress in your writing journey, which makes me so happy to hear. I so look forward to reading Moths when it comes out (ahhh!) and best of luck finishing up the first draft

Best of luck to you with finding another agent and your current manuscript! (And congrats on the publication!) Funny that I also have a book about alchemists that's sort of dark academia. My full is out with a few agents but I'm already thinking of more edits I want to make and I have no idea if this book really has a place in the market (but I persist lol).

Ahh, I saw this comment super late, but thank you so much! I really appreciate that. YES we need more alchemy/dark academia books, I hope querying continues to go well for you!! I worry about marketing and that sort of nonsense too, but at the end of the day all we can do is write the best book we can and one that adheres to our vision and principles. Continue to persist!!

I love the short story grind so much. I finished and subbed three in April, but haven’t finished even ONE since then. I’d really like to get one finished by the end of the month for a specific sub window that’s open, but it’s hard when I’m also behind on the novel goal that I’m committed to. And as of tomorrow I’ll be slush reading short story subs for two magazines at once! Lots to do.

aaa I just read The Fall of Esther Park, it was great! What fantastic imagery! Congratulations! Best of luck to you while you've got this lull in between jobs-- it's a double-edged sword for sure. But it sounds like you're working with a full plate and making the most of it! Also, that goal of doing really different books every time is really admirable. Can't wait to hear more about Moths!
