I have on my bucket list getting to Thailand from the UK without flying, euro star to Paris, Paris to Berlin , Berlin sleeper to Moscow , Moscow to Beijing on trans siberian , Beijing to Hanoi then bus to Thailand through Laos.

I have a pneumothorax after lung surgery, which means I can not fly. This sounds the basis of a plan to me... have you tried to work any pricing out for this, on a rough scale?

Not sure I would want to travel through Russia they recently arrested a vlogger named sabbatical and held him for 15 days before letting him go. He made an interesting video about it.

Very cool! I'm happy for you. I left England in 2006, lived in Mexico for 3 years, moved to Dallas, Texas. Left the U.S. in June 2022 for Thailand. Just finished building a house near Khon Kaen. Planning to stay here.

It’s a really interesting life story you’ve got, there’s definitely a lot of significance leaving on the ferry from there for you. Something every Brit ought to know if you are planning to retire to Thailand, you will receive your pension but it will be frozen, you will not receive the annual state pension increase..

I'm in the same boat man and I've spent about 2+ years in Thailand since Feb 2007, that includes a 7 year hiatus from 2015 - 2022 to concentrate on a relationship which failed again 🤣 So I feel I'm going to work heaps of overtime, do the house up and sell it. Then retire to Thailand or The Philippines.

Thailand has better food. Phillipines, your state pension isn't frozen. Thailand has faster internet. In the Phillipines, more people speak some English, and Tagalog is supposedly a lot easier to learn than Thai.

You can actually get trains all the way to Thailand if you wanted. It'll take you a month at least but it can be done if you wanted to avoid planes.

Yes. Through Russia to China. Chinese high speed trains go to Vientiane in Laos, and then a normal train from there to Bangkok. It is not a cheap option.

If you contact a shipping company they let people travel in cargo ships. It's much cheaper than a cruise liner. Also there's always the trans-Siberian or trans-Mongolian railways but there are some visas and stuff to navigate.

I live about 30 minutes from that port. About 35 years ago cabins weren’t necessary so we got a return trip for about £10. We all decided about 8pm to just head over to Hook Of Holland. Fun times.
