TRUE STORY!!! One night, about 10 years ago, I was drunk off my ass asleep and I heard this song playing downstairs. I came down to figure out why, because I LOVE Weezer. And I saw my 60 year old father sitting in front of the TV at 3am watching this video. I asked him "What are you doing, man?!" And he said "I'm watching Happy Days." He flipped through channels and found this on, like MTV4 or some shit, and thought it was an episode of Happy Days he hadn't seen. Haha! And he was jamming out. Then I told him, "Dad, thats the Weezer video..." and he didn't believe me. Kept jamming. Then the end happened and he realized I was right. Looked at me, after jamming out, and said "Eh... wasn't THAT good." Because he's one of those 'there's been no good music since 1975' people. But for a MOMENT.... 😎 Weezer had his old ass.

When Weezer came on the scene in the really early 90’s, they created a whole new genre of alt-rock...Nerd Rock. To this day, their way of introducing themselves to us, the first line of their first track on their first album, might be the most epic introduction the music world has ever heard...The song is called “My name is Jonas” , and it was a special one.

If you aren't familiar with the 70's TV show, "Happy Days," a lot of this will go over your head. Happy Days was a 70's TV sitcom that was written about the Rock n Roll era of the 50's. Weezer in this video are performing as a wholesome 50's band. Thus the cheezy smiles and expressions. The diner in the video is where the gang from Happy Days would hang out. Much of the video shows actual footage from the old TV show edited in with Weezer performing on the stage. It's quite brilliant actually. Check out the song, Beverly Hills. Also by Weezer.

Buddy Holly and the Crickets inspired the Beatles and Rolling Stones. Absolute legend! You should react to some old school Buddy. “That’ll Be the Day” is a great place to start.
@carmenmehringer97654 жыл бұрын
Yes, @Devon Bell answered your question on the title of song. In the 90’s Grunge was so prevalent that it made Weezer look squeaky clean like the 50’s generation. That’s the reference to Buddy Holly and the Crickets. Mr Video if you haven’t reacted to Buddy a good one to start with is “That a be the day”. Rock pioneers BH & the Crickets! Also you may know our “Fonzie” from a different character aka Coach Klein in the movie Water Boy. 😂Trust me GenX had it better with The Fonz (Aaaaaa...👍)

Happy Days, was an American Sitcom that ran from 1974 to 1984, it was set in the 1950s and 60s. "Buddy Holly "by Weezer was released in 1994, and pays homage to Happy Days in this video. At the time it seemed very technologically advanced placing the current band in the old footage (something we take for granted now). Buddy Holly was s musician active in the 1950s, at the time Happy Days was set, tying the song into the video theme. Rivers Como, the lead signer of Weezer looks vaguely like Buddy Holly.
