I love the scene where George hears that she called it a “deformed bunny” and laughs. I was expecting him to be offended because he rescued it from the dungeon, but laughing fits his character way better and shows why they are so compatible ❤

Nah he laughed because he was trying to send her a message and she unknowingly got it. The doctor said he wanted to “cure” George by making him a shell of his former self the way the Germans turned wolves into the Pomeranian. By giving her the Pomeranian, he was letting her know he would be with her soon as a the “cured” Pomeranian version of himself basically. When Charlotte called it a deformed bunny, she was essentially saying she would rather have George as the big wolf he is now and didn’t want a broken Pomeranian version of him which is why he refused the doctor’s “treatment” after hearing about it.

When the doctor tortured George, his reasoning was humans domesticated dogs from wolves to little dogs like the pomeranian, so he could do the same to George to 'fix him'. When George heard that Charlotte called it a 'deformed bunny' its actually quite sweet because it shows she prefers George the way he is rather than how he would be if the doctor 'fixed' him.

In history Pomerania was bred to be beautiful court dogs and were hailed by the queen for their beautiful looks. They were larger than modern ones and occasionally a perfectly normal occurrence is for normal Pomeranians to be able to reach the old size. They even have a cool nickname “throw back Pomeranian” between 14-30 lbs. a true Pomeranian can only reach 8lbs. But in court they were representative of the queen wanting to create a beautiful breed. And were almost entirely propagated by the work of a single reign.

Pomeranians are in fact a German breed (Spitz, in this case a Zwergspitz), we also have, among others, dachshunds (Dackel), poodles (come in different sizes) and Schnauzer (also come in different sizes).

If you were ever expecting Bridgeton to be based on history, then you didn’t even read the synopsis of the show and are better off watching something else, instead of complaining about the way it is. If you want to read books about African Kingdoms no one is stopping you from reading about it. Netflix has several shows made by Africans, go watch that.

Historically speaking, Charlotte actually brought 2 Pomeranians with her when she married. Her father had died when she was very young and her mother died six months before the wedding, so it makes sense she would bring something with her for company in a new country. Her granddaughter, Queen Victoria also kept Poms. Love this series, it’s very cute. I think it’s really good that George’s mental illness in real life didn’t strike until much later. So they had more time than their series counterparts.
