When I'm very sad, I tend to go back to that scene in my head. One of the most effective lines that caught me here is "You rrreally shouldn't bother, because I feel like an idiot most of the time". I think a lot of people can relate to that. And it's terrible how all those people treat her, like it's an absolutely natural thing to do, no one even takes a moment to think that she's going through a lot without them adding to her plate. I wouldn't be able to save my face in such a situation, I would probably hate all those people for how terribly inconsiderate and rude they are.

Luxe Lady He is twenty years and a couple months older than me. I am 38. I am going to be 39 in November. I am not really gregarious I just really like the nice guy...he wasn’t very nice to her at the beginning of Bridget Jones but I think he was afraid of getting hurt...and when she was interested in Daniel he should have told her the truth right away but didn’t he wanted her to be happy even though it was hurting him...I just watched the 2nd stupidest romantic comedy I have ever seen. Bridget Jones I think appeals to me now because I am heavy and I want some guy to like me for me...i am a lot smarter than her but I have some issues...I haven’t had that kind of healthy nice relationship in a really long time. I just found out that the guy I used to want to be my Mark Darcy married someone else. I lost touch with him eight years ago. I sent him a congrats text but he never responded. I am not hurt because I am over him but it still was a shock. I thought he might be gay. I have stopped looking for the right guy because the last guy I dated hurt me so badly. I am kinda embarrassed to admit this to the world but oh well. I tried eharmony and it didn’t work for me...I want to meet someone the old fashioned way. I have a best guy friend who is older and he taught me not to settle. I would like to get married someday but if I don’t I am okay with it as long as I have friends and family.

Renée Zellweger was only 32 years old here. WTH? I remember watching this as a kid and thinking she was closer to 40; not because she looked it, but because of the things the other characters said to her (about being single, unmarried, not having kids, etc). Would've thought she were an "old maiden" (and clearly, she was to them). Today, I'm 32 - her age in this movie - and I can't really relate to any of this. Well, most of it at least. Don't think most of the people my age can either. Perhaps it's different to be 32 in 2019, than it was back in 2001. Doesn't really feel that different to being in my late twenties, tbh. Probably because it isn't (not that far removed, 3 years don't make that much of a difference). Interesting how times change.

Jen Warshawsky me neither. I normally get people like Mike Charleson and my ex husband telling me I look fat in my plain boring clothes. Then say things like, you can’t even pay your bills because you are so stupid. I am going to make sure no tradesmen ever work for you! I thought, what a charming person. I didn’t get treatment like this from the lifeguard, Graham in the 5 star hotel in Tenerife next to the waterfall. It really spoiled the entire Freddie Mercury tribute night! I was really disappointed seeing as it was my mum’s cousin ex husband Mike 🧘♀️🏋️♀️ 📖😥 😥😥😥👼🏼👼🏼👼🏼👼🏼

First time watching this film and I teared up at this scene. Don’t know why. Beautiful execution. Edit: I was pleasantly surprised that this is the modernized Pride and Prejudice. My goodness that’s why I love it so much.
@christinaudodi5714 жыл бұрын
Hannah Montana this is my first time ever watching that scene as well and I also teared up. Probably because as women (I don’t know if you’re a woman I’m just assuming by your name) we’re taught that we have to change ourselves in order to get a man. Therefore, it’s refreshing when someone doesn’t have to even if it’s a fictional character

When I was a teen I watched this movie for the 1st time and found it hilarious and a little sad (for her). Now I'm a bit past Bridget's age and realize that I myself have been in the same situations, especially the dinner with couples and all the bashing because I wasn't in a relationship. The "time is running out" sentence I get on every occasion, everywhere. It's really tiring. People need to stop doing that. I also loved watching The Nanny with Fran Drescher and thought it was weird she still wasn't married past 35. Little did I know I'd be a spinster too... Oh well...

No suitable men to marry is why. A woman should not worry about whether the men like her she should worry about if she likes them. Lots of women wait and wait for Mr. Perfect and still end up with some loser if they get lonely and settle for some abusive immature prick.

Lol the fact that he accepts her the way she is makes him Mr. Perfect. Not his appearance, manners or career... We're just looking for acceptance. And that's what makes you immediately like someone, when they say such words to you.

You can tell how old this movie is. You don't really have conversations with strangers like this at a dinner parties anymore, particularly just the first question being posed in that way "how's your love life?" when you've barely sat down. I know there's criticism of feminism in the 21st century saying "developed countries don't need it anymore!" but conversations like this prove it. You wouldn't have asked that question of a man, or the phrase to a woman "tick-tock" when you barely knew her. Or, the stigma of a woman in her 30s being single and childless must mean there's something wrong with HER. That it couldn't just be a choice. I like to watch this movie not just because it's a funny rom-com, but because it kinda reflects how attitudes have changed for the better I think. Which makes me hopeful for the future.
@soxnation10002 жыл бұрын
I don't think this actually would have happened in 2003 either. It's just plain rude and tactless to pry into someone's personal life like that, regardless of the time period IMO.
@christeljarry17892 жыл бұрын
"yes yes I hate him...." ah! ah! that's so funny! I love when Darcy says "apart from....(list of flaws) I like you just the way you are" it's as if he hasn't learned his lesson in P&P....skip the flaws and go direct to "I like you just the way you are!" ❤
@luckyme088817 күн бұрын
3:50 this is why it didn't work out between them and she returnd to the jerk Daniel in the sequel. Mark was brilliant, decent and genuine but he wasn't assertive enough. He let a random woman interrrupt them when he's confessing his feelings to her. He just couldn't have enough strength to prioritize his conversation with Brigitte. That's what ruined their relationship later. Work took over their bond though he was an awesome boyfriend. He lost important moments to mundane chores. This is what happens to good people. They're so genuinely good that they forget to be smart.
