Tip culture is crazy in america, I've always treated a tip as a gesture of appreciation for those who go above and beyond not some extra change I have to throw in for someone simply doing their job. In certain situations like a waiter or cook at a mom and pops i'm down but tipping a cashier for clicking a of couple buttons and asking if I want a bag is kinda insane to me

As an American, it's insane to me too. Our tipping culture takes the burden off of the employer to pay a wage high enough to attract potential employees, and shifts that burden to the customer. That's why food prices and most "expected" tipped services are usually cheaper here. However, being opposed to tipping isn't a valid reason to not do it, especially if that person is an American. You're just screwing someone who's likely barely getting by as it is.

@@SGTsnick3 I'm not opposed to tipping I just don't tip if they're not really doing anything. If their base pay isn't enough they need to find a different job, I would. I'm pretty sure a lot of these places are paying a normal amount hourly, but they also request tipping because people will tip regardless. the other problem is that I'm sure a lot of people are making more money from tips than if there was no tipping and their pay was determined by some corpo. So it's like, damn. Probably shouldn't abolish it even if we had the chance.

I understand not wanting to screw over the people who are paid low wages by not tipping but it also means that system will never change because of it. If a lot of people collectively decided to stop doing it then that'd force employers to actually start paying them a fair wage. It's a never ending cycle in it's current state despite people knowing it shouldn't be like this. Unfortunately the employees will have to suffer until employers are forced to change. I certainly wouldn't want to contribute to such a system. This is an European pov chimming into the American system so I don't have any first hand experience with this. It's very different over here, although I've definitely seen some companies wanting to adapt a somewhat similar system because it'd be lucrative for them. But they can only succesfully do that if it becomes socially acceptable.
