Quick story about my first time hearing Dying Fetus: I grew up in NW Florida and one day I was in a Whataburger with a buddy of mine after school. I went over to the digital jukebox in the corner of the restaurant to pick a song with the goal in mind of picking something that everyone there would be horrified by, and to my delight, searching through the Metal category led me to a band called Dying Fetus and their song "Kill Your Mother, Rape Your Dog." I queued up the song and returned to my seat with a smile on my face. When the song started playing, the employees looked around with confused/surprised expressions, and then one of them walked out from behind the counter and over to the machine. He then bent down, reached his hand behind the machine, and turned the music up! Then he looked at us and threw up the horns. It's still one of my favorite little moments to think back on.

The best band you could have ever listened to. Dying Fetus is really an underrated band. I mean 90% of their songs have breakdown riffs. I mean who does that.... About the Vocals, it's called Growling which is common in Death Metal to create scary atmosphere

Good call on the lineup change - most of the old band quit on John Gallagher (the main vocalist and guitarist) and formed Misery Index, which is a band I also recommend. There have been a ton of lineup changes since but it has been the same three since 2007 (Gallagher, Trey Williams on drums and Sean Beasley on bass and vocals). Also the word for a five piece band is a quintet.

I'm really glad to see that someone has mentioned Misery Index. They don't get enough recognition in my eyes. Their groove is just unreal and I'm happy that I've seen them live around 6 times (Dying Fetus is the only band I've seen more often^^). "Retaliate" is still one of the greatest deathgrind records ever imo and I still regularly listen to "Traitors" and "Heirs to Thievery". For a first time listener I would probably recommend "Exception to the ruled" (from the "old" Dissent EP), "Conquistadores" (from Discordia), "The Spectator" (from Heirs to Thievery) or "New Salem" (from Rituals of Power).

got to love a girl in a miley cyrus shirt checking out sum brutal death metal. sometimes metal bands don't over do it with the mix because they want it to sound real as possible, and when you see it live it sounds like the record. they want it to be easy on the listeners ears, but want it to sound like it would right out of the amp and in the room with the drums.

Most of the time back then, though, it was because most bands didn't have money for great recordings. The first 2 or 3 Cannibal Corpse albums sound like absolute shit, mix wise, for example, but that was common back then for Death Metal. Most of the time it had nothing to do with wanting it to sound bare bones and "real".

Yeah, my wife and I went to watch Dying Fetus I concert a few years ago in Birmingham, AL. I actually went to middle school with the drummer Trey Williams, they are all really nice guys, very smart and really friendly, we hung out with them after the concert and my wife really thought the guys were cool as Hell. From a personal level, Trey, their drummer, he's always been a bad ass but he's really cool to hang out with but he's also really generous when it comes to his knowledge on drums. He knows his shit, again really awesome guy.

I saw them about 10 years ago with hatebreed and chimaira. When they were doing their sound check , bottles started falling off the bar and there was a big chandelier above the stage that started rocking back and forth . I have seen many shows there before and the chandelier never moved.

I discovered your channel a few days ago and it is very enjoyable, you are funny but I think you should have included "From Womb to Waste", is probably their most famous song. I would suggest you check out Suffocation, great band from New York, usually considered the fathers of Brutal / Slam Death Metal, songs like "Infecting the Crypts", "Liege of Inveracity", "The Invoking" or "Bloodoath" would be amazing.

You don't need to take anything before a metal concert. It's its own drug. For me, being sober is the best way to enjoy a Metal show. I can take it all in and remember everything about it. Don't want my memories to be blotchy because I was too shitfaced to remember half of it. I don't blame you for thinking what you did about the vocals for "Grotesque Impalement." It does sound comical and like shit lol. They improved as time went on.
