Well, now we own a home we paid cash for, so it's not like we spend a lot of money on housing - just maintenance items and taxes (which are very minimal where we live). But these apartment prices are completely insane. I don't think I ever *grossed* much more in a month than this rent costs her - and while I made a decent amount of money in tech, my last salaried position was in the 1990s. I wonder what she eats or feeds her car with... to say nothing of doing laundry... My big issue with Miami is the friggin' _humidity_ , but then, 2/3 of the entire nation is too humid for my tastes. There is a reason we live in the high desert...

The thing is I'm in LA it's not that crazy to see people pay this, but I literally pay a 3rd of what she does because I don't live in a luxury unit I think if you choose to live in units that updated you're begging to pay the price especially in cities. But apartments aren't even the issue in Florida it's the insurance. My mom lives in Florida and they jacked up her home insurance premiums. I'm like sheesh this is getting ridiculous.

Omg please stop moving here. As a native Floridian, the price for rent is already over inflated. Then you have her talking about oh I offered over the monthly rent to secure the unit. Which empowers landlords to charge even more for these absurdly priced units. You have to be making phenomenal money, in order for $4100 to not make up a substantial portion of your income. I imagine if you’re not making near $200k you won’t even get approved. Landlords here require you make 3x rent, and many are demanding first, and last month’s rent plus a $2000 security deposit to even move in. South Florida is in a housing crisis and every year it gets worse.

This is the issue with renting. They keep putting all these stupid amenities in when people just want a decent sized apartment to live in. I'm based in London, UK and people have been complaining here about the apartments costs. My sister in america says people are complaining about them too. We dont need spas, clubhouses, private dining areas and events. They charge loads of extra fees for them too. We just want a long term rental that doesn't cost half the earth to afford.

Except they don't want us. Profiting from land should be illegal. The land is all we have, and it's stewards should not be self-interested. Why them, and not me? Or you? Or all of us?

@@02nupe no, but landlords enjoy your trust. There are nine million more housing units than households in America (US Census) and an estimated 30 vacant bedrooms for every 1 homeless person. This is not something to be proud of. The fact that you need to pay 4k monthly for such small apartment shouldn’t be considered a deal, especially an apt located on a mall (wow big deal)…Miami is so overrated .. I’ve lived in Miami all my life, and I’m a homeowner, and many of us are struggling to keep up with our bills due to the current housing market situation, high cost of living, and it is so sad, one of the causes are people like you, that used to live in NY with huge salaries and decided to come to live here and pay whatever rent the landlord decides as you can perfectly manage because of your NY salary. Not your fault per se,but for sure one of the consequences of the Covid and post covid times, and of this poisoned system.

For people who have never lived in any of the major 10 cities in America (I've lived in 4) please understand $4k in kansas in a 5 bedroom mansion is not the same as $4k in san Francisco or miami or new york. I own a property in Manhattan and bill my tenant $5k its a 1 bedroom but a 1 bedroom in manhattan varies (harlem or soho? Doorman or walk-up?) Also miami has had a major influx of rich new yorkers who have helped contribute to the rising living costs in all of Florida - so florida is still cheaper (tax wise) than living in a box in manhattan. Parking spots and balconys are normal amenities in almost all miami apartments whereas in new york these are not always offered and considered a luxury and 1 parking spot (not a covered garage) can on average raise your rent by $200/month in new york. So again for people not familiar with real estate in america or inflation, real estate is all about location not bedrooms or size. Blame the pandemic for real estate migration patterns and blame Biden for inflation, not the woman renting because she clearly has the money to pay for it. Let's not be bitter at her.

3:11 Thank GOD I live in Wichita, Kansas!!!! Your rent went up that 2nd year by more than my rent was the last year I lived in a 1 bedroom apartment. Your place is really nice and worth the money, I'm sure, but that is double what I make in a month. My mortgage for my 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom, house with a garage and huge backyard is only $707 a month which does include taxes and insurance. My apartment was about to go up to $800 a month in 2023 after it was $500 in 2020. It just started going up every year until I had enough and started looking at houses. Best decision I made. The privacy is insane. I have a cat too and surprisingly, I didn't have to pay extra for her to live with me like in that apartment.
