We know, I knew it after the PM said: “The laws of mathematics are very commendable, but the only law that applies in Australia is the law of Australia,” 🙂

I kinda wish Australia would start creating their own Linux distribution, and it ends up being a rebranded Manjaro. This would be the pinnacle of Meme countries.

No software can be trusted if it is written in Australia or by Australians. Australia has a law that allows the government to force a programmer to insert arbitrary code into whatever project they are working on, and they can neither refuse nor tell anyone about it. Essentially, Australia can force their citizens to insert arbitrary vulnerabilities into any project they are involved in

I once found a picture of Australia explained for Americans, it went like this, Western Australia: Texas, but Fremantle is Austin and Broome is that town from 'Friday night lights' Northern Territory: Florida (crocs/gators, this should be obvious) Queensland: Alabama except for SE QLD which is Louisiana (it's still batshit crazy but it's fancier) South Australia: Ohio Idaho & Iowa all in one (all boring) The Australian Capital Territory: New Jersey (it's a toilet) Victoria: New York Tasmania: Oregon For New South Wales the coast was California and the rest of it was New Mexico It also said King Island was Guam

lmao I didn't know HxH (which takes place on an island until they go tho the continent) was based on Australia. it's like a reverse Australia because the weird sh1t is actually in the continent and not on the island.

In Austria cannabis is pretty much treated like all other illegal drugs. Germany recently made the jump with weed but I doubt this will happen any time soon here.

The rating systems here in Aus have always been dumb or inconsistent. Going from not having a system above MA, so some games had to tone it down (like MK vs DC?), then adding a 18+ category that they clearly dont want to use. Didnt they do something weird with Disco Elysium a few years back, about it being allowed then banned then allowed again? When I heard about the recent rating issue with Balatro in Europe being 18+, I thought I'd see where Aus sits on it, assuming they'd probably do the same. Surprisingly its PG, but then I went looking at games like fortnite and its not says "not specified" , to which there's no conclusion what that means ... but its allowed to be played here? and to be clear, "not specified" is different to "refused classification" which is defined as things that cannot be sold here. Additionally on the topic of Hunter x Hunter, its been a while since I watched it, but maybe its because you're beating up kids? Both Gon and Killua were like 11~ 14. I forget if anyone else was young. But Im sure there's been some teens in other fighting games and there's been no issues. Sakura and Karin in street fighter are the first who come to mind, and also the kids from the DBZ/GT games (Gohan, Goten, Trunks) [edit]: Just remembered, Rival Schools was basically students (and teachers) fighting each other.

When you say Hunter x Hunter is your favorite anime do you mean the 1999 Series or the 2011 Series? Personally I like the 2011 Series, because it has an actual proper ending. The 1999 Series just stops in the middle of the Yorknew City arc, and even with the OVAs it still only gets to the end of Greed Island. While the 2011 Series gets to the end of the part of Hunter x Hunter where Gon is the main character, so it at lest wraps up his story. Also fun fact the mangaka of Hunter x Hunter Yoshihiro Togashi, is marred to to Naoko Takeuchi, the author of Sailor Moon.

Australia is a meme country, I can confirm that from the other side of the world :) The way they treated Nole Jokovic was mind boggling. They even made some 100% anti-scientific claims - like that if you've got Covid - you don't have immunity after that (in reality it is proven, that the body produces long, possibly life-lasting immunity) and all at the same time, while chanting "follow the science". The game looks fine to me, I don't understand the problem. There are such games at least since the 80s - I still remember a favourite game of mine - Golden Axe. The only thing I disagree with - is legalizing drugs, even light ones. Decriminalizing small doses for personal use - sure. But legalizing - no. There are certain things, that society should not promote.
@Brocuzgodlocdunfamdogson18 күн бұрын
Those claims about immunity might be one of the stupidest things I’ve ever heard. Acquired resistance is the one of the main reasons humans haven’t become extinct. I’d disagree on decriminalization vs legalization though. With decriminalization, there’s practically zero benefit that isn’t also offered by legalization. Plus, with legalization comes tax revenue. Revenue that can fund rehab programs and community cleanup efforts. And legalization creates a standardized product. While drugs are only decriminalized, they’re still coming from illegal sources. Either keep it illegal or make it legal and tax/regulate it, no in between.

Ratings are stupid in general, just let people publish whatever
@thingsiplay18 күн бұрын
The idea behind ratings and controlling the market is not bad. In example off course games with gambling or highly sexual depiction or massive drug use should be rated, so children do not get access to the games. Even for adults this is a hint and useful information as a warning for themselves. The problem is, that in reality people making the ratings are doing a poor job. If you have an unregulated market, it can get very fast very bad.
