And it was a fantastic experience! Performance issues, bugs, yes - of course. But a gleaming fresh new slate and a solid foundation for the future once they are fixed. I'm so glad I get to be among the first players to help mold this game into its glorious promises from day 1 of release, and I am very optimistic about its future. Let me know your experiences in the comments!

A nice, sane, level-headed review of the current state. Thanks for a reasonable outlook of the current state, with the good and the bad and the future promise. I can't run it yet, so I'll keep watching to see how things progress. ShadowZone found that it isn't running on a single thread; it is divvying up some workload between multiple cores. It's actually not pegging any of those cores, so when people are saying it's CPU bound, it's just that their CPU isn't up to the (current) workload, not a defect inherent in the engine's architecture. The delay in opening the part manager: if it happens every time you open it, that's almost certainly something that could be calculated once and cached for future loads, and even pre-cache it by calculating it in a background thread when the vessel first loads (KSP1 pre-calculated the windows on vessel load but not in the background, one of many reasons it takes a while to switch to a vessel). They just haven't implemented pre-caching that window yet, probably because they're waiting to hear from the community about whether the new approach is worth keeping or if they need to scrap it and do something else. That's probably the story for all sorts of deficits; optimization adds cost to all future development. It'll come, but they're trying to avoid wasted effort.

I tried on a laptop massively under spec, and the startup time was brilliant. Main Menu smooth, no lag spikes changing settings. But it crashes upon starting a campaign, but that's expected tbh. Mostly got it now to save money later when I have a better computer.

This video is spot on. I've played for about 12 hours since release and yes there a bugs, yes I've unexpectedly exploded, yes I've lost wings out of the blue, but you know what? I still had a bunch of fun and it feels like the foundation for what the game could be is there. It has major issues that need fixing, but this game could be a bigger hit than ksp1 if the team delivers what it said it would. I see the 50$ as an investment in what the game will be more than what the game is worth right now. The game is fun, it's beautiful, it's funny!

The number of bugs with the most simplistic of core KSP functions drives me mad. I'm excited that the modding has already started with a few to address some of the MOST fundamental lackings in the game (pinned Ap/Pe, teleporting, rigity, etc). However, the quality released for a BETA of CORE functionality is SO bsd, I fear it will take SEVERAL years to get the CORE game to the same quality KSP1 w/ mods was at. Its hopeful, but I honestly think we will land on the moon before this game is ready for General Availability.

I too believe in this game and in the developers. Although, you have to remember and keep in mind that not EVERYONE had this type of experience. If you booted it up, STOKED to finally play this and found out that even though your PC exceeds the min/recommended specs required to have optimal performance, you end up getting unplayable frame rates between 4-5 fps, nothing but bugs for some reason and then you see others having a great time, it might change how you feel. Like I said, very excited this is finally out, but after the price released I just couldn't swing $50 USD and hopefully by the time I can afford it, it isn't already $59.99 or more and will be much smoother all around for everyone. Again, SUPER happy to see all the positive feedback/experiences that others have had. But for me, I will just have to wait to play. Keep up the amazing content man. ALWAYS worth the watch. Have a good one...

It is only gonna get better from here, but honestly I would have preferred if they'd delayed all the way until 2025 instead of releasing the game in this state. This release is worse than Cyberpunk 2077's tbh and the game currently isn't worth $5, let alone $50. I know that's gonna change but honestly they should charge a price that reflects the game they're selling right now, not how they want it to be
@the18thdoctor3
@the18thdoctor3 Жыл бұрын
If they did that, they’d probably charge again for 1.0, or make each EA update DLC. This way we essentially get a 17% discount pre-order, and we get to play the game along the way. But yeah, it could’ve used another few months of dev before going EA, let alone full release. However, it seems that Take2 was calling the shots about when it released instead of the devs.
@N9GamingOfficial
@N9GamingOfficial Жыл бұрын
I think of it not as buying the game, but purchacing the opportunity to help develop the game with the devs - become one of many voices helping to create the game the right way - I say give it time! Surely it will get better
@oasntet
@oasntet Жыл бұрын
What's curious is that anybody can just opt out and pretend like this is another delay. If the EA experience isn't what they want, that's cool, it's just a more public stage of the development process and we can all wait (myself included) until the experience is closer to what we want. It's not even technically a delay, as they stopped making promises about release dates. So now, instead of everybody getting their hopes up and then being disappointed every few months or years when another delay is announced, we can actually see progress being made (or not) in the next weeks/months/years. My biggest worry, though, is that the publisher failed to predict the reviews and that trips up some internal brainless metric and the whole project gets axed because it doesn't have some arbitrary threshold of positive reviews. Hopefully T2 isn't that myopic, but you never can tell...

Okay everyone, I have heard that over and over again, the music is different in orbit than anywhere else. I just want to point out, that the KSP 1 music was also really great. The chillaxed funny jazzy theme in the editor, who doesn't love that? And it had great music when you reached orbit (the one with the whale-ish sound). The only thing that they neglected for 11yrs was the RCS sound (which there was a mod for, installed by default in my copy). Different music for different planets (so more than one song) is something I would expect from any 50$ game.

I have a GPU significantly below minimum spec, and ngl I’m surprised how _good_ the performance was - sometimes. It was actually really good, >60 fps, when floating in space, not looking at Kerbin. But was really bad when loading a lot of terrain. Fortunately, that should be relatively easy to fix, as opposed to if performance was bad everywhere. And of course there are a ton of bugs. So my takeaway is that there is a ton of promise in KSP2, it’s not nearly as bad as the hardcore gamer snobs are making it out to be, and the devs are working hard to improve things, even though it kinda sucks _right now._
