Amazing how calm the emus are, especially Bamboo, around things that you'd think would be scary, like the mower. Their response to new things isn't "Will that hurt me" but "Can I eat this?" Obvious that they have been raised with kindness and lots of close contact, as we have seen in your videos.

We have a couple packs of coyotes here that carry on like that for hours sometimes. Annoying for sure. They like to snack on cats. Had to help the neighbor pick up pieces of her cat out of our field. Not fun. They took that cat right off the back porch and have been know to snag cats off a 5 foot post. We havent lost any chickens to them yet though.

Emus, and as I found out yesterday, ostriches also HATE me. I understand how that sounds. If anyone told me a species of animal hates them I would think they a bit weird or at best, maybe the animal smells fear or something like that. I came to live in Australia as a teen. The first emu I saw was in a fauna park, I wasn't afraid, they were behind a large fence... one came up and threw up on me. The 2nd time I met an emu it was in a goddamned children's petting zoo for christ's sake. I assumed that animals in petting zoo would not harm a flea but it chased me and I ran for the car, dived over the front seat to get into the back seat and it was there it attacked me leaving some impressive bruises. The 3rd time I was squatting in the middle of a national park to pee. It was still and staring directly at me so I pulled up my jeans slowly then ran as fast I could towards an on-site office. I was ecstatic that I outran an emu... right up until it decided to come in... even more impressive bruising. The 4th time was years later with my own children at a zoo, I was talking and facing someone to the left of me, completely unaware that I was passing an emu enclosure and only turned my head to the right because I heard growling. Walking closer and further a few times and each time I walked closer, it would growl... proving to those near me who did not get the same response that I wasn't making it up. Years and one successful ordinary encounter with an emu later, yesterday I took my grandkids on a offroad safari trip in an open plains zoo. We were coming up to a group of female ostriches. I asked my daughter, I've never been close to one, do you think they would react like emus? I had a baby in my lap and nowhere to go so decided the best thing to do is just turn myself away, stay quiet and ignore them.... My daughter never did reply verbally but what I didn't notice at the time, she had decided to record whatever happens next. So apparently 'yes', to the great amusement of my daughter and two older grandkids who were in fits of laughter, ostriches also hate me, bruised again but now I have video evidence.... the ranger decided not to get close to the group of male ostriches further along.
