I didn't care for the dogs owner saying "well, they're country dogs, you know" like that means they can run wild and it's okay because it's in the country. If you can't train them to stay on your property, then build a fence or a run for them to keep them safe and not be a nuisance to others.

Mhm, our dogs used to get out, so after we confirmed the neighbours didn’t want them around we had to get electric fence, but now it broke due to one of the neighbours reversing over our driveway on a tractor or us driving over it , so now we have to keep them indoors, it’s not that hard to keep them inside or put some sort of fencing up- Sheep live near us ( ours would only watch or bark at most )

Thank you for the well thought and reasonable response! ANY! ANY! ANY dog MUST be trained. Depending on the temperament and breed of animal. NO domestic animal should be allowed to be lose with no boundary or fencing. (Cats included). All hunting breeds should be taught instant recall. That means, regardless of ANY situation once that ‘code word’ is called that animal stops any activity and INSTANTLY RETURNS TO THE OWNER! INSTANTLY!

As a owner of a bird dog, try to ask the owner if her dogs go missing to call you right away. Once they know where there are chickens and small animals are, they'll return if they get loose. They now have a better understanding of the farm and the fencing. If they get lose, they will do damage. These dogs have prey drive for days. You can see how stressed they were in the kennels, not because they were pinned up, but they couldn't get at the chickens.

@@bkm2797 You cannot trust that it won't happen again. People always say "it won't happen again" and then it does. Next time they'll find a way in and kill them all. That's what bird dogs are good at. Hate to say it, but you cannot let your guard down anymore.

It's a type of hunting where they're not trained and their owner follow a GPS. But it's not good if there is a little baby outside for example.

If the owners don't resolve the issue that allowed them to escape, they will get out again and like someone else said, they know where your farm is now, so they will almost definitely come back again. Be on your guard. It worries me that the owner said "they're country dogs", as though it's not their responsibility to keep track of them or stop them roaming.

My thoughts exactly. I owned and bred hunting dogs, and the first rule is to house them securely so they don't get loose; second is training. My neighbor lost all his chickens to a couple huskies that got loose and scaled their fence.

Those dogs are German Shorthairs, my husband had one, when ever she knew there was a bird in the bush, she would stop dead still and point with her front right paw up. Beautiful dogs, and if trained properly they don’t go after random birds. Ours was always in our house with our family, she was very protective of our young sons.

My grandfather had a few of them. As a child my sister and I really loved the last one that he had. A very loving family dog. Very cute, smart and playful. But my grandfather didn’t go hunting with him as much as he did with his previous dogs due to my grandfather’s age. The dog escaped often to get his “workout“ I guess. They have a LOT of energy and really need to get plenty of exercise.

You did a great job! It's not always a friendly experience confronting neighbors about their country dogs. And what's worse is the dogs end up being the ones to suffer due to lack of owner responsibility or training. We had a neighbor that refused to watch his dog and it went after cats and chickens and finally it went after my dog. It was so sweet to people and kids though! One of the many things that finally worked for us, we would put rotten eggs at the corner of the property and the dog would roll in them and our neighbor finally called to complain about having to constantly wash the dog, we told them he gets into our garden compost and after our birds and we try to stop him, and they finally got an invisible fence so he could roam but not wander off. 😄

My neighbor has an invisible fence but sometimes he doesn’t put the collars on the dogs. He has 12 Rottweilers and they come into my yard and growl at me when I take care of my garden. He denies that his dogs leave his yard. I don’t know what I can do. I might need to get one of the horns that people use at the football games to signal that one of the dogs is in my yard?

The dogs are smart but most hunting dogs especially bird and small game hunting dogs are retrieve the animal so not hunt so they probably won't go right to their house if they get out.

A real fence would be better, anything electric with animals is horrible (shock collars etc) bc they can’t learn concept of electricity, so it’s like a punishment for something they didn’t do wrong..

Definitely, I can’t imagine what would have happened to those dogs if it had been a different persons farm. In my area farmers can legally shoot stray dogs on their property and tend to. Thats why most people have pretty strong kennels

They're over a 1000 USD for some morphs and a normal green pair is almost 2000 USD. The dog got shot and it's owners ended up sued. All could have been avoided with a sturdy kennel and good training

Sorry, her saying they are "country dogs" is a lazy person's way of telling you they will be allowed to roam. " Country dogs" don't tend to survive long as they come across folks who have a desire to not have their livestock harassed and killed by dogs.

If they are near a farm the farmer could shoot the dog, that’s why ours are either locked up or in electric fenced area at most times, a responsible owner would keep them inside while they fix the problem, where I am some farmers let their farm dogs loose, but proper ‘farm dogs’ won’t attack livestock

Threaten the owners with guns / sue , If they are on your land as a farmer you have the right to shoot them if they are killing / stressing livestock, don’t do it, scare the owners . And you could say “ I do have expensive livestock, for example, a peafowl like this is worth * insert inflated price * and our emus are worth * insert inflated price * !

@@freebre_1976 Shooting the front leg is the same as killing the dog. It would obliterate the limb, especially at close range. Also you'd have to be a crack shot to to hit only the leg of a running,/charging dog. If you're going to go that route, best to just 'turn off the lights'. Dog won't suffer.

Those two hunting dogs are German Shorthaired pointers, great dogs. We have 5 of them to breed and sell pups and they really are the greatest dogs ever. They will kill chickens if they can get to them, we’ve had to extra protect ours from them but it’s in their nature and we still love them. Glad that y’alls chickens were okay and the dogs got back home.

I was in a somewhat similar situation to yours about a year and a half ago. Unfortunately I lost half my flock to the neighbor’s dogs and they refused to take any responsibility. I’m glad it turned out better for you and that none of your animals were harmed.

They are German Short-haired bird dogs, but if properly trained, they will NOT go after LIVE birds. I know from personal experience raising and showing them in my youth. The crated male should have been placed in the kennel area until the owners arrived, it would have helped them both calm down. I suspect the owners don't work them and they are a high energy working dog who love to please humans. Loved the video, as always ❤. If the owners won't take them back, haul them to the nearest animal shelter. They'll be back, so heads' up. Tell the owners to get the electronic security fence and put radio collars on the dogs which will zap the dogs when they get too close to the perimeter of the fence. They work.

Most dogs will actually not listen to the electrical fence they will learn to blow right through them🥰. The sad thing is that those are high energy dog so the reason they feel the need to escape is because there needs are not being met!

When we had our chickens, we started findings couple of chickens dead. One of the roosters was close to dying. He did survive barely. He was a super sweet rooster. We could walk around with him in our arms. After he was attacked by two black labs, the roosters entire personality changed. We could no longer go up to him and if we went to the chicken yard which was fenced in and nothing could get into the pen. The 2 chickens and the rooster that the dogs came after must not have been back in the chicken pen. We ended up having to kill the rooster and it broke our hearts. We found the owners of the 2 black labs, so they did pick the dogs up. Veyo, Utah is a small area also and just like what you said was that they couldn't do anything. We found out a few days later that the owner of the dogs ended up shooting the dogs. That broke our hearts also. From what some of our friends around us was that the dogs were allowed to go where they wanted at night. We always had our chickens in a huge chicken coop since we have mountain lions in our area. Anyhow, our neighbors was saying that while the dogs were running around all night, they have killed some pigmy goats and they attacked some horses. So, the owners ended up killing the dogs because they didn't want to bring them in their house and they were tired of complaints from others in the area. Since we lived in a small rural area, nobody official wise did anything. I felt horrible that they shot their dogs after we told them about our chickens being killed. I don't understand why someone would do that. In our opinion. I would think that if they brought the dogs into the house or in a secure place, they should have done that.

My grandfather also shot his Doberman. When non-trained dogs start hunting and stalking wildlife and other animals there is no way of getting that out of them ever again. And in small villages, with lots of farmers, you can't have dogs like that running around.

@@sarahgarton4334 I isn't always because of bad ownership. There are still parts of the world where dogs are seen as work animals and not as pets. It is the same as people killing roosters or bulls, when they become to aggressive to be around. At least that is how I grew up, so I can only speak for my experiences. But that is no excuse for not haveing their dogs roam around like that!

I was so nervous they’d get back out! We lost 5 hens last year to a pair of huskies and we were right there in the yard. It was awful - we couldn’t get the dogs off. We also lost an entire flock in another State about 15 years ago to a German Shephard who broke through our 2x4 and hardware cloth completely enclosed chicken fortress while we were gone to church. When there’s no one there to take them off, they’ll just keep ripping at the enclosure until they get in! I am a dog lover also but both those experiences were so horrible - I’m so glad Bubbles and all the others are safe. The owner seems very nice about it but it’s her legal responsibility to keep those dogs on her property. For the dog’s sake too. We’ve always had dogs as well and keep them on our property. Those dogs will be back now that they know where your birds are 🥺

I actually keep a bow and a bat by my back yard. we have had some dogs try to get into our yard. we also have some fishers in the area, so I will do what needs to protect my birds. I do all I can to keep my birds in their yard, so I will not tolerate dogs entering that fenced off space - regardless of the excuse. I would try to drive the dogs out if I could but if blood is spilled i would take the offensive.

Over the years with the local fox hunts, we've occasionally had hounds wind up on our property. All of them have been very sweet and pretty much just poor lost things honestly. We've always kept them in the house in our mudroom whenever they wind up here. Sometimes we've had to keep them for a week or so due to the owners not actually being local. (Typically hounds are let loose during the hunt and just sometimes the owners will loose track of one and have to go home, hoping someone finds their dog. All the hounds are tagged so that helps a lot.) I guess it's dependent on the area and the people, but I've never had this situation. Dogs that go after our animals winding up here, I mean. I think you handled this as well as you could have given the situation. Sometimes it is very "on your own" with being a farm owner so, I'm relieved that you didn't loose any birds or have those dogs hurt themselves or anyone else. And the owners were apologetic, so that's good. Hopefully nothing like this happens again for you guys.

I'm glad you guys had a better outcome than we did. Where we live, people run their bird dogs down the road to exercise them, loose, with their pickup trucks. They go by our place, sometimes almost daily. It enrages me. It's lazy and irresponsible in so many ways. I keep waiting for someone to run over their own dog, we've seen a few close calls. From the start of having chickens here, I kept fearing they would come onto our property and attack our chickens. Then, one day last summer, it happened. Two dogs rampaged across our place, grabbed one of my little pullets, and ran down the road with mer. My husband, our dog, and I, ran after them. We finally caught up to them and got her back, just as the owner pulled up. He had completely lost control of the dogs and was nowhere to be seen until that moment. He didn't seem to care much at all and seemed confused that we were so upset about it. All he did was offer to pay for the chicken. At that time, we had no idea how many others they might have hurt or killed. "Thankfully", it was just the one. We rushed her back home and, much longer story short, her injuries were horrific. I was ready to put her down, my husband wanted to give her a chance. She healed, mostly, it was a miracle. She will most likely limp forever, is much smaller than her sisters, and may always be an outcast in the flock. And still, I watch people run their dogs by our place, over and over. It upsets me, greatly. I've seen one other dog run right through our yard, but thankfully the birds were all inside at that time. I was in the middle of something and couldn't try to chase down the person in that truck. It wouldn't matter. They don't care. Many people would shoot the dogs and I had several people tell me that's what we should do. I am too much of an animal lover, I think, but then what about the safety of my own animals? I don't hate the dogs or blame them, even the ones who attacked my poor little chicken. They are just doing what dogs do and what people have bred them to do. The fault lies solely on the owners, but it is the dogs who will pay if they end up on the property of someone who does shoot them. I hope it doesn't happen here again and I hope this is the last time you see those dogs, or any others, trying to hurt your animals.

This was tough to watch as this happened to us only we lost 7 birds and learned the hard way that once that prey drive sets in the shock fence won't stop a determined dog. I am glad your birds are alright thanks to your quick response! That could've gone so much worse with the mesh set up the way it is. The problem is the birds panic and can't get away from the dogs as they tear through the flock once they get in. Only our best fliers lived through the attack as they managed to get over the fence and away fast enough before I got out there. We had to get sturdier permanent fences which has worked so far. The poultry mesh keeps the birds in, but you need your property secure enough to keep out dogs. Even the most vigilant owners can have a moment of distraction that leaves a dog on the loose, and once they get into your bird enclosure it's heartbreakingly destructive.

Not might, they will remember. We once had a loose dog come back a *year later* and do the exact same thing he tried the year previously, which was try to kill our old dog.

I'd try n get the fence electric running soon, typically dogs with prey drive once they know a path to a 'source' will come back. It's up to the owners to train properly and house appropriately. Glad you were kind n understanding, and the owners were polite.

Hi guys‼️ Carrying the baby girl front facing while she is sleeping is dangerous, it puts pressure onto her neck because it’s not properly supported as it’s hanging towards the front. It can even cause silent asphyxiation so be careful! Love the channel and the content ❤ tip: change her to facing towards your chest once she goes to sleep that way you can still hold her and you can give her neck support 😘 8:06

My neighbor growing up raised bird dogs. They were kept in a large, completely enclosed kennel, and if the got out of the kennel, they still were enclosed in a large yard with a 6' fence. He knew very well what they were capable of doing.

So glad you were able to detain the GSP, such high energy athletic dogs. Impressed that you were able to catch them! Hope the owner puts things in place so they don't escape again as they now know where to party. Well done for handling the situation so well. My friend wasn't so lucky a dog got in and killed half her flock last year. Scaled 6 ft perimeter fence then went through the electric fence to get to the chickens. When a dog is that excited and over threshold a standard electric fence may not be enough to stop them.

German shorthair pointers are a bird hunting dog. They couldn’t fight those instincts any more than a retriever could fight bringing a ball back (I would know, I’ve got one of each!). They’re amazing dogs, but definitely a threat to our chickens! Glad to see they were friendly with you guys and that none of your chickens were harmed.

You can teach them to control there instincts and not act purely on impulse. Youre just a bad owner. I have a lurcher who herds my chickens....its got nothing to do with the breed!

We have 2 German pointers , they are the sweetest dogs. We have never hunted with them, they are just pets, but they still have a strong drive to go for our birds. We have a fenced in backyard separate from our fenced bird yard so they can’t get to them. Our boys roam around the house when we are gone because our oldest one used to break out of crates all the time and he would cut himself up doing it, so we don’t do crates anymore. When they get their minds on something they are pretty persistent about it. They are amazing , goofy dogs . We love them, but yeah you need to watch your birds a little more closely because they now know they are there and they want them.
