Note that the fountain counterman addressed the teenagers as “nigger” and Rev. Henry and his three friends as “nigra”. But the four men were subjected not only to the same thugs, but to even greater brutality. Then, in jail, Henry gets a paternalistic lecture from Bedford. And Lilly gets a tongue-lashing and is called a “nobody” for trying to stop out of control, reckless behavior from John Morgan’s friend. This is why I like this show: it faces the truth, and presents past events as they were. The truth is not comfortable.

Everyone should watch this instead of the mind-numbing trash available nowadays.

Rev. Henry was always a great favorite of mine. Ironically, too, as I have strong anti-clerical leanings! He declares that men must do the work that recently fell to children, then with very few words leads the men into an act of boldly challenging segregation - while at the same time leaving behind even justifiable anger! This is powerful stuff, drawn from real life. Yet Henry is not based on any real person -- though there is something of M.L. King, C.T. Vivian and Fred Shuttlesworth in him.

I hope you can add episode 16 soon. I really liked Roger Aaron Brown as Rev. Henry. He figures prominently in no. 16.

Please give us Episode 16 if you can. This show was a very powerful and evocative look back at the infant days of the civil rights movement, and an affirmation of the truth that a society that wants to advance cannot afford the luxury of second-class citizens.

For some reason, TV and film like to use the name Lowenstein for Jewish characters. Yet, as a Jewish person from New York who has a part of multiple Jewish communities in NY and elsewhere, I have never once met anyone named Lowenstein. The only one I ever heard of played for the Orioles in the 70s and 80s and he wasn't Jewish. Also, I get it. John Morgan is only around 7 years old, but his character also is not very bright and it is beyond distracting.
