Forrest and Lily lead parallel lives, each growing more courageous daily. It's fascinating to see how this is worked out so dramatically.

Were the students on the Freedom Buses truly this obtuse and remote as portrayed by Mimi? This is the first false note I've seen in more 20 episodes.

I doubt that the character of Mimi is representative of all white freedom riders. However, I think it is likely that there were participants whose mindset was like hers - nobleand well meaning, but viewing the movement from a sociological and political standpoint because they had no direct experience with life of black Americans in the south. This was a time long before mass media existed blaring everything into people's faces. So it is not surprising that Mimi would have such naivete. Wepll meaning,, but naive. Everything she knows comes from what she learned in newspapers and academia.
