For the self striping sock yarn with rib I will knit all the stitches on the first round of the color change and then go back to the knit purl ribbing pattern. This eliminates those blips…sometimes Ijust don’t care either and embrace the blips. I’m def too addicted to the stripes to use all my “regular” sock yarn 😂

Just wanted to share a tip you might find helpful when measuring your favorite sweater. What I do is put the sweater on, then I use pins or safety pin to mark the fullest part of my bust. I also mark my waist, and sometimes where I want the sweater to lie on my hips (if the sweater pattern is significantly longer or shorter than my existing sweater). Then when I lay lay the sweater flat I know where to measure for each of these areas. Hope I explained this clearly and that someone finds it helpful 😊

If the differnt colour purl bumps are bothersome when using a self striping yarn on a ribbed sock, the knitter an do a plain knit round on the transiton round. This gets rid of the purl bumps and makes the transtion more smooth looking. It will not effect the ribbed pattern in the least as long there is a couple of rounds in between the knit rounds

Sockmatician says you can knit the rows where the color changes in a sock happen then go back to ribbing and it won’t affect the stretch but you won’t see those purl bumps …. I have done this

I cannot use a treadle either for disablity reasons and I use the EEW 6.0 and I love it because I can fit it on a lapdesk and it weighs about 2-3lbs with a battery it lasts over a week of spinning (often hours a day). It comes with a large orifice and a reducer, a tattoo style pedal that you can use with your hands or elbow- I use the dial though. I ordered a Nano for my partner and it is a BIT more finicky because it lacks a few of the bells and whistles (tension style etc) but it is about 1/3 the size (the EEW 6 fits on a mousepad well for example), and therefore is EXTREMELY portable. My partner definitely loves it.

I have a Dreaming Robots EEW 6. Very lightweight, portable, and easy to use. Not only comes with six spindles but a bag of things you might need for basic replacement. They also have a Ravelry group for lots of discussions and questions.

Daedalus e-spinners are AMAZING! Wonderfully engineered, super light and whisper quiet. And they come in SO many cool colors. Customer service is second to none. HIGHLY recommend!! I have a Sparrow and a Starling. Well worth the investment.

You were thinking of the electric eel wheel “nano” a small ultra portable e-spinner that can be an inexpensive entry, or perfect for some niche uses. I love my eew 6.0 and it seems able to do anything I want. Highly recommend!

I have a Hansen but there's always room for more wheels. I love my Daedelus Sprarrow! You can custom order them in your favorite color and they spin like a dream. The customer service is excellent too. Very very portable in a Tom Bihn bag. I named mine Rhonda because she helps me... Also, she's red.

I love my EEW 6. It was cheaper than my rigid heddle loom that’s for sure. He also sells a 3D printed lazy kate that goes with the 6 bobbins. You can also get his custom yardage counter that’s pretty nice. 10/10 for Dreaming Robots.

I love my EEW 6 spinning wheel! I got that one over the Nano because I wanted to be able to spin more (total weight etc) and not need to upgrade. It's also great for plying if I do drop spindle spinning. But the Nano is also a popular one as it is so small and portable. I have a original Nano and 6 by Maurice of Dreaming Robots. The 6 is by far my favorite electric wheel. Keep in mind my Nano is the original and Maurice has improved so much in the new model. I think it is a Nano 2. I have another Electric wheel by a company that went out of business and I hated it. Hope that helps.

Late to the comments, but I'll throw in another vote for the Electric Eel Wheel 6! I learned to spin drop spindles and treadle wheel at the same time. I got the EEW 6 last year and I really like it! Lightweight and more affordable than the big name electric wheel makers (Hansen, Ashford, etc.). I get in such a zen state when I'm spinning because I don't need to treadle or chase my spindle if it gets out of control. I can just sit somewhere comfy and spin! The big bobbins are great for longer projects but still suitable for small projects.

I bought an eew 6.0 earlier this year. within 30 minutes of opening the box I was making legitimate yarn lol. highly recommend it to anyone who is looking to dip their toes in the spinning waters but aren't willing to drop a ton of money on something they're not sure they'll enjoy. I bought a drop spindle and a bunch of bags of fiber from a now defunct farm in upstate ny back in 2004 and almost immediately lost interest because I couldn't get the hang of it. FINALLY all these years later I'm spinning those bags of fiber and thinking about investing in a traditional wheel in the future.

I have the Ashford espinner and it is excellent. It runs smoothly and quietly. It is made of wood but less expensive than the Hanson models. I bought a lithium battery which is very convenient when traveling or spinning with a group.

Thank you for the positive ease tutorial! My arms are always a problem, so going forward I may base my positive ease on sleeve fit, if that makes sense. I have a classic pear shape, and was always doing positive ease based on hips, but thay doesn't really work. So that's why I think going by sleeves and then checking ease from that point will work best for me;)

I have the EEW Nano, and it was a great cheap option for getting me into wheel spinning before I bought my treadle wheel. I could see myself getting the EEW 6.0 but I have no reason to use my Nano anymore.

The EEW wheels are very lightweight and inexpensive, however remember you do get what you pay for. I too have difficulties that make a treedle wheel out of the question most days. I found the very light wheels difficult when drafting. Wasted money on the Nano 2.0 $125.00!! I love both my wood frame wheels. The Majestic has options to for beginner budgets.

Andrea, I love your patterns and have scoured them for the info I am about to ask for. I weave and want to add knitted borders to them occasionally. I know how to knit an applied border but have not been able to figure out how to beautifully make the turn at the bottom tip (corner). Can you offer any advise? Thank you so much!

Regarding question 1, I’m seconding that you can knit the purl stitches on the color change rows of self striping yarn to avoid that “glitch”. On the next round, go back to purling as usual. That knit row will disappear into the fabric and it will look like continuous ribbing.

Question: I have heard you say that the purl stitch uses more yarn than the knit stitch. As long as the tension is the same for both, isn’t the loop formed around the needle exactly the same? I knit 2 same stitch count swatches, one all purl, the other all knit. When I unraveled them, I found they used the same amount of yarn. I am a thrower (flicker, actually) and except for the way I enter the stitch, my motion is the same. However, I don’t see that knitting style should matter. Tension is all I can think of that would cause more yarn usage. Am I missing something?

Great podcast! I'm getting ready to knit the weekender...Can you clarify SIZING NAMES for the Weekender Crew please? Both Youngfolk & Edmiston Creations had to frog parts of their sweater because they got confused on which size was called what in the pattern. --Is the first size listed on the pattern size ZERO? I thought you referred to the green sweater (41.5" finished circ) as size 3, but also talked about "sizes 0-3" during this podcast. But the 41.5" finished circumference size would be "Size 2" if the first size listed in the pattern was size zero... Can you please clarify & also let us know if there are any areas where this might confuse us in the pattern so I know what to watch out for? Question, i lost over a 100 pounds. As a result my upper arms havr huge droopy bat wings. I am a pear shape, so i understand adjusting one size fir the top, & another for hips. But have yet to figure adjusting a top down raglan to fit well at the sleeve. Am wondering should i just increase more between the shoulders before sleeve stitches are put on hold, or increase after picking up to work on the sleeves.

Question about the Weekender original vs crew. I can wear both necklines. I've never knit a bottom up sweater before so I'm already nervous but would you say the original version is easier for sweater construction? I do like a crew neck though. I guess I could always make both! Any tips you can give to a first time bottom up sweater knitter would also be appreciated. Trying to get past my bottom up fears. When I do self striping yarns in a rib pattern, I just knit my first row of the new color and then resume my ribbing. It is really hard to pick out where that knit row was and keeps nice crisp lines.

I heard on another podcast that instead of measuring the widest part of your bust, you should measure the upper bust. Would that apply more to a raglan style and the full bust measurement to a drop shoulder style? Or is it just a matter of preference?

I recently used Dapple to knit myself the Ginny Cardigan, which I am loving, but I did have some challenges with managing the different colors of the Dapple skeins. My original order had the lightest and darkest colors but nothing in the middle. I can share that Brooklyn Tweed customer support was very helpful in getting me select skeins to help me blend with a second order and they did indicate that this could have been done with the original order if I had included special instructions, which they have a space for in online ordering. They also sent me links to their instructional videos for how to work with Dapple to achieve the effect you want. I still managed to miss variation between skeins later in the game on a sleeve during evening, TV knitting, which I might have alternated skeins to avoid if I had noticed it in the moment, but somehow it all still looks pretty cool and this lovely cardigan is now in frequent rotation. As Andrea has advised, sometimes you just have to step a bit further back from your knitting to find it gives you joy just as it is!
