Hey Folks I am seeing some feedback about the vibe of this video. Some of you think I am coming off as negative and complaining. I think much of the nuance of the message I was trying to communicate in this video was lost and I did a poor job of communicating with this one. I’m sorry about that. I’m hearing your feedback. I’ll take it to heart and do better in the future. I’m looking at the criticisms to see what lessons can be learned from this experience. After all I spent almost 3 weeks working on this video and it didn’t occur to me that it would be perceived as negative until after it was released and I got to check out some of the comments left on the video. I think part of the reason I was oblivious to how I could be seen by some is that I didn’t have negative feelings about this in my heart, so I was surprised to see it be perceived that way by some. Some moments in this video, such as when I went to 4 thrift shops in a row looking for a specific style box to paint & couldn’t find one, so I was annoyed at having to find the box, could be interpreted as me being annoyed with making the paintings all together I wasn’t annoyed or frustrated with making the paintings. I am enjoying making the paintings. I love painting. Doing 3 at once was probably an unwise decision (lol) but I am enjoying the process. What I attempted to communicate with this video is why I am no longer doing personal commissions and some of the pros and cons of doing commissions. This also isn’t a new development. I haven’t taken any personal commissions for 3 years now. But for some of you, it was viewed as me being annoyed and frustrated with these 3 specific commissions. Some of you have expressed that if you were the one commissioning these pieces you would feel bad about some of the sentiments I expressed in this video. I’ve talked to memory box guy and the Pokemon painting lady and they enjoyed the video and didn’t see it as me being frustrated with those pieces. One said "I really did not take anything personal or felt attacked by it. Quite the opposite and if anything, it felt both genuine and very special to be among those last lucky few.” On several occasions I have offered everyone on my commission list a refund of their deposit. When they joined the wait list they were told it could be quite some time before they got the art. Many folks took the refund when I offered it and my list used to be longer. The clients who requested the art in this video are excited for their art and have expressed nothing but enjoyment of this video. I try to share much of my triumphs and struggles in my videos. I think it’s important to show all that, not only to art fans who can appreciate the full process of what goes into these artworks, but also to other artists who may experience similar things and don’t have to feel alone in some of their struggles and adversities. Ultimately, I want as many people as possible to enjoy my videos and I obviously had a miss-step in that mission with this video. It’s an important lesson to learn and I will try to find a better balance between sharing my struggles and frustrations without coming off as completely negative. Thanks for the important feedback. Always striving to do better. -Peter

Glad you will strive to be better. I find that when you face a problem head on, people are far more forgiving. Those people whose commissioned art is on display in your video and who you spoke to directly about the tone of the video probably appreciated your consideration after the fact and responded positively because of it. good job.

I feel like alot of people forget that you are a human with your own emotions. Of course you talk to any artist they find commissions draining. The aspect of not having full control over your own art. I got my Vivvid kingdom deck and poster and love it. When reading your emails about that it also made me sad. When originally ordering I knew that this would be a very long process since it was from start to finish. Unfortunately, people are used to a fast turnover rates since companies like amazon exist. But your art is amazing and you seem genuine so people will continue to support. Keep your head up!

I honestly don't feel like this video was negative so much as a) showing that biting off more than you can chew at once, is stressful and b) that you're a perfectionist to a fault! I think that those who have been in similar shoes totally understand and appreciate where you were coming from. Sadly some folks don't seem to understand that a KZbinr is a human and not an actor. A human who is sharing their real life triumphs and tribulations. I super appreciate you sharing your frustrations with yourself and your decisions because it makes me realize I'm not the only one who does that! Stay true to you Mr. Perfectionist and give super duper hugs to that little cutie Miss Juniper cause she is growing up SO FAST!!

I'm a professional artist myself, so I treat other artists very well and I entered a place where I began hiring other artists to help with parts of projects that I don't have time for. I've hired many artists and the problem is usually on the artist. Even when I give them no timeline, they push themselves too hard then complain about burnout. If I make revisions they get angry or burn themselves out, even when it's minor changes I'm willing to pay extra for and there's no pressing deadline (weeks, months, no problem); if I love 99% of the pieces and dislike one thing, I have to walk on eggshells now wondering if they have a bruised ego. When I ask for revisions, they take it too personally and rather than creating a to-do list they frequently trying to rush it and get it done and "out of the way". I've had artists charge me $10 for a item then refuse to do work when I offered $60 for small changes to said item. Look, if you need money that's your thing; but in my experience, countless artists are the problem, not the commissions process. I'll even pay artists more than they ask, sometimes double if I really love their talent; they have a tendency to burn themselves out, and the clients are the ones who suffer for it. Nobody is entitled to your talent unless it's a contract, but there's a point where many artists are just difficult and utterly blind.

I'd take this vibe any day compared to delusional art content. There's a real struggle out there for artist. Commissions are not rainbows and butterflies, any artist who tell you otherwise are lying to themselves and fooling around. And I think that it's a good opportunity especially for bigger artist like Ten Hun to express something that many of the artist feel but can't be heard. I don't consider this negative at all, it's a real feeling coming from real human.

Being a tattoo artist, i can feel you about not wanting to do commissions because it can become tricky really quickly, but when you're style become the main focus that’s when the fun begin ✨
@Peeplii

🤧 this is why I don't think I'll ever take comms. I have a friend who took one and the buyer would be like "can you move this like an inch to the right" for everything and still wasn't happy at the end. When it comes to me asking for art, specifically from my tattoo artist, I just give her an idea and let her do what she wants. I showed up for one of my appointments and she goes "I kinda want to do colour, do you want to do colour?" I now have colour 😂 it just like, let your artist have fun :) it will come out better in the end

Isn't every tattoo done by a tattoo artist a commission?they are paying you for something they want on their body
@Peeplii
@Peeplii Жыл бұрын
@JRW3 not necessarily. Tattoo artists can do their own style in the form of flash tattoos, or they can take custom pieces which doesn't always mean they will get to do the style they really like doing. One of the artists at the shop I go to rarely does custom "commission" pieces, and only does pre drawn pieces that are in her style.

I totally understand what TenHun feels. I'm an artist myself, and started saying no to portrait commissions even if I'm not well-known. Most of the time, clients want the portrait to be as accurate as possible, and it keeps me pressured (not in a good way). So this time, I'm focusing on the style of art I'm having fun with, it makes the art journey more worth it.

I personally love making commissions for people, using their ideas, views and my creativity to create something unique and different. Basically the art piece contains two peoples energy. Yes sometimes the art requests can be "difficult" because art is not a print shop, but its all depends on artists mood, vibe, energy. But ones you figure out and get out of the difficult part, its an amazing feeling. I always enjoyed every art work i have created for someone, especially if someone have died and couldn't be part of some event or maybe beloved pet died, but with magic of art it can create those memories or new memories that never happened, and beloved pet doesnt have to be something that will be later forgotten about . Thats just my view of all this as an artist.

Just wanted to say that your Vivid Kingdoms playing cards arrived a few days ago and I absolutely love them! I was quite saddened to hear you were disheartened by the whole experience after encountering issues with production and fulfillment. I actually missed the initial campaign window on Kickstarter, but was fortunately still able to jump in as a late pledge after discovering your project! I understand there were hiccups and delays along the way, and I'm really sorry you had to go through that. I can't imagine how stressful that would've been for you and your team. I greatly appreciate the time and effort you put into providing regular updates, and the candid and transparent nature of the posts. I could feel your frustration when things went wrong. But your integrity really shone through, and I was never concerned about whether I would receive my project. I knew you'd make it happen. And honestly, the wait has been totally worth it for your amazing designs! The tuck boxes are beautiful and the card art so perfectly captures your unique design style. I also thought the way you designed the numbered cards to connect together was really fun and innovative. I've unboxed them on multiple occasions just to show off to friends and family, and they were all really impressed with the little attention to details like that! Anyway, I hope you don't let the negatives of the experience outweigh the positives. I would happily back another project from you in a heartbeat and with full confidence. As a fellow artist, commission taking is really not suitable for just any personality... I'm sure many young artists tried it, but if they are not really committed or determined, than it can be clear very quickly that it might not be for their personality or their approach to art might not suit it. Making high production videos, original music, amazing works of art and everything else that makes up your content and long list of skills is undoubtedly underrated and under appreciated by viewers like myself. I appreciate you sharing your experiences in a very genuine way and can’t wait to see all of your future projects. I only regret not finding your channel sooner! Thanks, Maker

So happy seeing this video. I feel the same as you do in the last year. Commissions are ok to get some money but does killing you slow inside and your creative process in your journey as artist. We might please few clients with their commissions but we loose the opportunity to please millions of people showing what we can really do… Well done and from today that’s it no more commissions for me neither… so free 😂🙌❤️

The way you explained how you felt through the process really resonated with me. Thank you so much for being transparent and taking the time to make these videos. I feel like I’m not so alone and inspired to create more now because of you! I struggle so much getting burnt out when so many people ask me to do something for them, but feel a disappointment when I can’t go through with it, or even be proud of it. You’re amazingly talented. Hope I can be as good one day 😊

You are an artist, a fine artist that makes damn fine art . Value yourself. Do commissions. You have the right to ask for compensation that makes you excited and happy to make your art! I would definitely design, paint, and “handle” clients’ projects like that box for $100k. You are a fine artist that has more subscribers than people that live in the state of North Dakota. Please please please please do more of whatever the hell makes you happy.

looks dope bro, commissions are rough, i feel ur pain. The last commission i did REALLY challenged me to grow a pair and make something epic and out of my comfort zone. After many personal stress anxiety tantrums and one month later, the final result impressed both me and the client but the unknown of "will I like it and will he love it?" was an awful road of pressure. From now on people can view my paintings and buy them but no more commissions for me.

most of us may never get to a point where we can say no more commissions or our craft field is commission based but being able to say no is something we should all strive for one day or at least be able to do less comissions. whatever ten-hun is expressing the frustration of commissions is very real and what most artist are going to experience and im glad he showed this side of it.

As an artist myself i can understand when you are swamped with multiple avenues of life going on (family, work, outside of family matters like your parents and family, spouses parents and family) things come your way to pull you in different directions and then you have to work on a complicated piece of art. Also when ot comes to art every artist is different but we can all agree we need to go through a set of processes to get ourselves into both the rhythm and the mood or else the art is not our best

Dear Mr. Peter Hundowtail Thank you for being you. You are an inspiration. My wife and have purchased too many things from you and want more. One of those purchases was Vivid Kingdoms and it arrived today. I know you were sending stuff out apologizing for the wait but they were wasted because THIS is well worth the wait. We have only taken the smallest of peeks at it all but im still amazed. I cant wait to get them framed and that first shuffle. As i said you are an inspiration so ive been thinking of doing a review/ fanboynerdout video with the first shuffle. Hopefully get perfect cut first try. Keep making your art. Keep growing and perfecting your style. Keep making the videos we all look foward too. Take the time away with your family when needed. Keep being awesome and most importantly keep being Peter.

Hey there mate, I have recently started watching your videos and am loving them all, your style is so unique and beautiful, I love all your characters so much and the colours you use are amazing. I’m not an artist in any shape or form, I’m just a simple mum of 3 grown boys, 1 in which is an awesome drawer and I’ve shown him a lot of your paintings and murals you have done over the years, he got so excited when I told him you make music also as my son does to, he draws and he creates music and he loves every minute of both worlds
