September 2017 when I got to know this Japanese man who worked in our company as a translator. I was an HR there and we rarely talked. Not until he approached me in my station when he saw my desktop wallpaper (a korean group BIGBANG) and he told me they were big in Japan and that he was also a fan. I got really excited to know that someone understands my excessive affection towards that group. After that, he started talking to me in a more casual manner. We shared information about our own culture and we even agreed that he'll teach me Japanese and I'll teach him Filipino words. My out should be 6PM but I'm spending another one hour just to be with him. Months passed by and we got really close. Then there were moments when he would low-key ask me on a date, and I would just laugh at him because I think it was a joke. Then we got to talk about the relationships in our countries. He told me that most Japanese people usually spend 100 days with someone they're infatuated with and see if they match. He asked me to try it with him. He asked me to be his girlfriend.. but back then I was confused if I like him or I just feel comfortable with him. You see, I've never been in a relationship before. I only rely on romance books and movies. And I've seen how love became cruel to people, and how people take love for granted. So I got scared. I told him that I'm not ready and that I don't if I like him or not. He said he understood. So he stopped asking me out on a date. But we were still close. We still talked about anything under the sun. Then came January 2019, he received an offer to be a fellow researcher in a university in Japan. He told me about it and I can see that he was so happy. He always told me that being a researcher was his dream. So without any choice, I accepted that he's going back to his country to live his dream. He had one month left in the Philippines before he go back to Japan and everyday I feel like I'm being tortured. He was still with me but I feel like I miss him already. That was the time that I realized... I also have feelings for him. I didn't know what to do and how to handle my feelings. It was the first time I felt this strong emotions towards someone. And I know it's too late. Telling him about my feelings is useless now. On his last day in the Philippines, we ate in his favorite restaurant. We spent the day like a normal one... like he didn't have a flight on the evening... like he was not leaving me for good. like I'm not gonna miss him. We still had communication even when he was already in Japan. The first few months, we talked almost every night. I updated him about everyone in the office and he told me about his new work.. he seemed so excited and happy, it warmed my heart. But in the next months, he became busy with his work. He missed my calls. And when he was the one trying to video call me, I was also busy. The every day talk became once a week... and then became twice a month.. until it was already three months and I still haven't received any message from him. I still updated him about my days, though, and that I miss him. One day, a friend of him chatted me through LINE, and told me that he already got a girlfriend and he was trying not to message me anymore because his girlfriend might get mad. After knowing about that, I messaged him right away and told him that I'd stop talking to him anymore. But wherever he is and whoever he is with, I hope he's happy. I still love him and everyday I still regret not confessing my feelings for him, I feel like I'm still stuck in the time when he told me he liked me and he want us to be together. but I know I have to go on with my life.
