As someone who's been gaslit by hairstylists into believing that coloring isn't affecting my curl pattern, your video really nudged me to listen to my gut feeling. I've left visiting salons for this reason and started coloring at home with no bleach no ammonia colors. I have grey hair since the age of 10 (used henna before switching to hair colors 2 years ago) so coloring my hair is something I can't escape but doing it on my own terms is slowly making my hair curl again. Was thinking of shaving my head completely and start from the beginning for a long time but having seen your journey I think I'll wait and chop off the lower lengths instead. Will wait a year for my natural tight curls to return. Thanks for sharing this. This felt validating ❤❤

You know I've had grey hair from a very early age too. It's runs in my family. I use the Bblunt hair colour to touch up my roots each month. Have you tried it? If not, apart from henna what do you use? Do you feel like henna leaves a hard deposit on your hair?

That's the word! Gaslighting! I knew she wasnt being forthcoming. If she mentioned pre-lightening even once, I would have put my foot down then and there. What was the point of me talking to her at length about the colour process if she was going to do her own thing anyway. For her, she thought if she pre-lightened she could increase my bill by 3500 Rs. The price I paid was much much much much heavier. It costed me my mental peace, 1.5 years of trying and failing. You hit the nail on the head! It's nothing but gaslighting. I'm also getting a little sick about sitting and complaining about bad treatment from hair dressers. It's so negative all round. :(

@@MichelleManuel It's the same with my family and grey hair. I never liked henna because it's quiet messy and yes the hard deposit is another struggle especially if you aren't able to oil and wash the very next day. I wanted to use hair color for the longest time for this reason but the salon experience was underwhelming. I haven't got a chance to experiment much with hair colors. I have tried Biotique (do not recommend, made my scalp itchy). Currently I've used casting creme gloss from loreal and I'm liking it so far. The jelly masque that comes with it really worked well for my ends. The pattern is still loose there but they feel moisturised after using it. I'll definitely try BBlunt next time.

@@MichelleManuel The price-hike scam is very real. And before trying color at home, I was also forced to undergo some kind of protein treatment to "fix my hair" (it was okay before I started salon hair color so the irony is hilarious). I completely get the frustration when you pour in to tiny little details and the next person just ignores it. Also the part where you told how the other stylists kept telling you off on how "it suited you". I mean, been there totally. I guess in 2024 even though the experience is not that great, we do have this online community and niches where we can atleast talk and figure out a solution. So always greatful to jave people like you sharing the experience for all of us to relate to and learn from. All I can say is, please never stop sharing!! 🫶🫶

Thank you so much. I'm looking back at the pictures of my hair before I went to the salon. It didn't occur to me even once that my hair looked good. When you look at your hair everyday, you don't realise that it's lovely the way it is. You tend to take it for granted. Criticize it for no reason. Want better. No results are ever good enough. You find reasons to pick things apart. I was in such a dark place emotionally, my grief was at its peak, mentally and emotionally I was shattered, I was crying day and night. Could barely move or get out of bed. I felt so lethargic. I had zero motivation to work. I was desperate to change my hair. I thought if I look different, I'll feel different. Maybe then I'd have some motivation to get moving again. I thought this change would bring back my vigour. I didn't think it though, I acted on an impulse without thinking. If the hair dresser told me once that she was going to prelighten my hair I would have backed out instantly. She conned me in order to inflate my bill. You don't kick a person when they're already down. What else to say? The song: You don't know what you've got, until it's gone - this!

Michelle, you are the first content creator in CG community I started following and my journey of taking care of my curly hair began with following all your advices and recommendations. Your reviews are always 100% genuine and you are the only KZbinr in CG community I blindly trust. Even on insta, you replied every time I had a query, clearing confusions regarding hair care. Also there’s been a time I spoke to you about how I was unable to take care of my hair for a long period where I was processing trauma from a personal grief and you have spoken to me with so much kindness . Not only you are an incredible creator but a very beautiful human being on all levels. It’s heartbreaking to see that you went through such problems with your hair due to carelessness of a salon and the stylist. But honestly, with care you’ve got your hair back to looking good again. I hope with time it’ll revive to a stage of beauty beyond your expectations. Lots of love to you from my end and wish you all the happiness in this world.

Hey Michelle. I can totally relate to you. A year ago, I went to a salon and specifically told my hairdresser not to bleach, but he didn't listen. I wanted a red colour for my hair, which I later learned doesn't need bleach at all. Anyway, the first month was alright, but when the colour came off, it became so rough and dry even after deep conditioning or using hair masks. My curls also didn't look like before. It loosened, definitely. I broke into tears. Instead of going to the parlour again, I started using box dye to hide the orangishness. It worked for a few months. But now I feel like I have ruined my hair more. My day 1 curls feel okay, but the other days, it just doesn't feel moisturized or defined. It's very frizzy and rough. I tried Olaplex, but it didn't work for me. It's been a year now. My hair grows slowly. I have cut down some inches. But there is still a lot of damage that still needs to be chopped off. Moreover, I am going through hair loss (telogen effluvium), and right now, I am feeling miserable because I don't know whether to take care of the hair loss or the hair damage.

I am so so sorry reading about your experience. It's very sad that we both had to endure the bleach when the colour requested didn't even need it. Also if you could speak to an endocrinologist and get some tests done, nothing like it. I started losing hair too last year. I got all the tests done. I started taking iron and using a hair growth serum. The iron tablets worked like clockwork!

Prior to embracing my natural texture, I had my hair coloured. I think she bleached it because I went lighter (light brown) and honestly at that time I wasn't much into my hair so I didn't bother asking whether she bleached or not. Oh god! the tangles, the dryness, the breakage was unreal. The ends were so frayed and dull. Plus my stylist didn't tell me about using olaplex (I wasn't aware about olaplex back in 2018). I started using hair masks (never needed them before), hair serums and hair oils in a bid to help with tangles and dryness. Eventually I grew it out and cut my coloured lengths. My hair bounced back instantly. I have greys now but don't plan to colour them since I had such a bad experience in the past. Also I completely have the same experience of hair needing to be a certain length to get natural waves. If my hair is chopped above my breasts then I need to apply 2 gels to get some waves out of it vs when its till my waist and literally needs 2-3 pea size of leave-in conditioners to get well clumped and soft waves. I feel wavy hair shocks more easily than curly hair because it is more delicate and has less shrinkage. We need to be careful what we do with it. A bad colour can make it straight, a bad cut can make it super frizzy. Thanks for sharing your journey Michelle.

Hey di , my question is - what products did u use while doing acv rinses , is it protine product or your regular product?
@MichelleManuel
@MichelleManuel Күн бұрын
Both. I'll try to explain better. I do a protein washday once every month. It doesn't matter if it's a protein or moisture washday, whenever I see that my hair is falling flat and the curl definition is not good, I do an acv rinse the next time I style my hair. The styling lineup would be whatever I want, protein or moisture. If I'm doing a moisture washday and the definition doesn't matter I style with a comb. If I have an important event and I have to have good definition, I use a brush styling routine. Brush styling and doing some coils also enhances my definition. Hope this clears your doubt.

I had a haircut curl shock recently and it was horrible! I cut my hair around 3 months back and like you said it is wavy but only when it is a bit long, it got cut really short because I had not cut my hair for a year and a half and there were so many split ends...it took around 4 weeks for the hair to grow back in length and now I can see the waves again,even though they're not as great as before...the stylist who did my hair was bad too, he refused to believe that my hair was wavy, he just told me my hair was dry and damaged, I so badly wanted a curly cut and requested him to do it and he refused....I want to not wait for a very long time and have a trim regularly but I am so scared of going to any hairstylist now, they always treat my hair as damaged and straight,,,plus becuase I don't brush my hair too often, it often falls a bit more in the parlour and they make me stressed about my hairfall🙁🙁🙁🙁🙁
