But also, to Crystal's credit, she LITERALLY predicted and described the ENTIRETY of Danganronpa 2's biggest twists and finale since DANGANRONPA 1. Nagito is honestly a character that is honestly really well crafted, like, the dude is the twisted reflection of the ideas of the first game's protagonist. Like, he goes all in with the whole hope thing, even supporting the group in a twisted way, since he helps everyone who hopes, even the murderers of the game, who hope to get away from the killing game. And also, the way he explains why he is like that, it makes so much sense in a twisted way, it's what he knows, he has always been from hope to despair, from good luck to bad luck and back again, and didn't help his frontotemporal dementia, whose symptoms can be poor impulse control, empathy loss, delusion, euphoria, lack of awareness, this guy is a textbook example of the freaking mental illness, which also makes it even more tragic, because you can't know how much of him was his own doing, or if it was just another trick of his bad luck, that made him unable to realize that what he was doing was fueled by his delusions and his own self-loathing, another trait typical in patients suffering from frontotemporal dementia, so, in his mind, probably he didn't thought that doing what he did was such a loss, specially if it meant helping someone who was able to bring hope. Nagito is a tragic character like I've never seen one before

[SPOILERS FOR V3] Idk if I'd call him well crafted, his definition of his philosophy is so arbitrary and without basis that he can do literally anything and it would somehow be in the name of hope, to me it feels like a writer's short cut to add unpredictability to the killing game and the addition of the "mental illness" plot thread doesn't really makes me sympathize with him because it's barely expanded on at all, however that being said, I can still appreciate that randomness that he brings on its own, even if I'm not personally a fan of his character in terms of the way he's written, imo kokichi is a much better wild card character because you can put on both the lense of "he's doing this for our sake" and the lense of "he's trying to get us killed and win the game" and his actions would consistently make sense through both lenses but it still remains a 50/50 thing which retains the difficulty of predicting his next courses of action

@@TJ_Sind2000 Being honest, I think that has more to do with the fact that hope and despair are way more difficult to work with than what Kokichi worked with. That's exactly why I say that it's good (maybe saying that it was well crafter wasn't exactly the right way to say, but rather that it's coherent). He is the rational extreme of hope, he is what would happen if Makoto Naegi didn't have a moral compass that made him say "Ok, hope is good, but there are things that I'm not going to do for it", and that's honestly what makes me think that Nagito is a good thing in this game, because by twisting the message of the first game and showing it's logical end, it builds up the message of this game of going on, of creating your own future, even though you were in despair, you can continue living and create a future for your own. But I'll admit that Kokichi's character is better than Nagito in the way it presents the conflict in V3, specially since the two positions at play are way less black and white than hope and despair.

When we finally saw Nagito's death scene, I loudly cheered, applauded the computer, and shouted THANK YOU several times. I was then feeling sad ten minutes later because I missed his craziness. No game has ever made me constantly switch between my emotions for a character and I commend the game writers for this insane character.

I second this. While some of the dub voices are very amazing, Nagito I feel like has the weakest one and should be experienced in Japanese. Totally different character. Maybe that's why I liked him throughout the whole game 😂 In Japanese he sounds genuinely soft and friendly, which makes his character even creepier considering his actions. His VA is just perfect 👌

see, the thing is, Makotoand Nagito have different luck Makoto - bad luck except at the moments that matter, then it's insanely good luck. Mondo's slip of the tongue, those easily missed bits of evidence.... Nagito - Able to manipulate his luck to the insanest of of degrees, to the point that basically the outcome he wants is what will happen when it comes to chance. The russian roulette, his own death. It was exactly as he had played it out. He just did not account for one thing. Once he was dead, he couldn't influence chance anymore, and the others finally broke through in the fifth trial.

This is not the right interpretation of Nagito's ability. Nagito is still alive in the real world, so his luck would still be working. Also, Nagito lamented that he could not wield his luck to its full extent in his FTE. He could manipulate it to some degree, but he cannot completely determine the outcome. The most obvious to this is how he cannot prevent his luck from affecting the people he cared for or that he ended up getting life threatening diseases.

I actually recommend watching the anime that follows directly after Danganronpa 2. After playing the first two games my partner told me to watch the anime which is basically the cannon ending and is split into two parts, the future and the past and explains alot of the things that we see in the games but all wrapped up. It covers how Hope Peak academy happened, the Remnants of Despair and the Future Foundation along with, naturally, what happens after the second game. It's a really nice conclusion and it gives the closure you need with all the characters you come to love, so give it a watch!

This was such a fun ride to experience live. This installment is my favorite out of the trilogy and having experienced it all again with these streams felt like I was playing the game all over again for the first time [besides the trials and their outcomes :P]. I was genuinely happy you did Nagito's free time events because the usual player wouldn't want to understand him more, so that was a fun bonus to watch. Your slow descent to both hating and loving Nagito was real funny to watch. He's quite the interesting character and trying to understand/study his actions is half the fun, at least for me. If you're interested, you should check out the Ultimate Development Plan and Danganronpa S to see Nagito's interactions without the killing game aspects. It's some nice small insight to understanding this complex character. Other than that, I look forward to seeing you play V3 since I really enjoy your commentary! Keep up the good work !
