When asked about the Monokubs, he said they weren't in the game's original script, however he was asked to include more Monokuma like characters. He obliged, but he also said, paraphrasing, "if you skip all of their dialogue you don't miss anything important". They literally don't matter. At least their theme is a banger tho.

I personally liked this ending a LOT. And the reason I like it is because I went into this game being told it had no connection to Danganronpa 1, 2, UDG, and 3, and chose to continue believing that. In other words, just because the Danganronpa series is "fake" in the world of Danganronpa V3, doesn't mean it was fake in the main 3 games and anime. V3 is more like an alternate universe than an actual continuation of the other games. To that end, V3 is a really fun and interesting "what if" scenario.

I think that the polarization of the ending is what makes it so genius. It’s just the right amount of controversial to make half the fandom hate it but no more than that. It’s juuuuust right to get people to argue with each other, to bicker and throw hate, and some might eventually wonder “hey… are we no better than the audience in the game?”

I actually love the ending because it's neat twist, comments a lot about developers' ideas for the franchise in both positive and negative way as well as overall fandom culture. Im really glad you ended up liking this game, a lot of people hated it when it came out but personally I love the ending with Kodaka sorta saying "So like the whole reason these games exist is because YOU all want more entertainment, more despair, and more hope" its such a interesting message to use for the game and honestly a really great way to end the series. And if Kodaka does ever re-visit DR he can EASILY make the previous seasons of killing games, imagine playing as Rantaro and seeing his previous game. I think that would be cool even if we know what happens to him in the end.

The game's message isn't even that negative. I think the audience doesn't represent irl fandom, just the idea of what some extreme fans could do, same goes for Tsumugi. To me, the game's message is that the developers are thankful for their fans, especially how massive the series became (as it started from rather niche JP-only series, now having worldwide localization), but as the series goes on, they feel hard to create something new without being held back by the first two games. So if they're going to do new Danganronpa, they should be free to do it without relying to previous installments.

That's a really fair and great take on the ending. I found the ending as sort of ambiguous. Sort of playing with the idea that the first 2 games could be "real" or not. With the theories that came out before the game's release that the world had fully fell into despair, so maybe history was altered, but wanting to keep things interesting they started the death games. The first 2 games could be retellings to make it seem fictional. The outside world kinda seems like a fusion of Junko and Nagito. Sorry for the headcanon vomit. >

My head cannon has always been that DR and SDR2, along with UDG and the DR3 anime exist on their own universe as itself. Then V3 is a different universe similar to us, where the first universe was a work of fiction. There's no proof for this, but there's no proof that says otherwise, its left to how the player wants to see it and that's the angle ive taken. Mostly because V3 its clearly made to criticize the consumer's demanding need for more of the same.

Spoiler warning for this video, and by extension, Danganronpa V3. I'm sure a lot of people have already explained this, but in case no one has: The "outside world" in V3 is not the same as our world. V3 isn't the video game you're playing, it's more like a cross between Hunger Games and Truman Show. V3's fourth wall just leads to another fictional world, in which all humanity craves the killing game, and in which the other Danganronpa games and anime exist, exactly as they do in this world. V3 and at least some of the other 50 killing games were inspired by the rest of the Danganronpa story, but carried out using the brainwashed bodies of "real" people. So the mastermind isn't actually Twitch chat, it's a dystopia. ...Or maybe you totally understood that and I'm missing the joke. Sorry if that's the case.

In V3, all the characters are basically "real people" in their universe knowing that the first 2 games, UDG, and the anime exist in their world like ours. The Flashback Lights alters people's memories, thus causing Kaede & Shuichi and the rest to act like the fictional characters they are. However, they're *still real people*. Tsumugi was one of the production crew using her Ultimate Talent of being a Cosplayer, so she can dress up as past Danganronpa characters just fine. That's why she broke out in her CosPox hives when she tried showing Kaede that she can't cosplay real people by wearing her clothes. Kaede and everyone since past Danganronpa 4 all the way to V3 are all real people.

SPOILER ALERT FOR DANGANRONPA V3 ENDING: On a meta-textual level, the ending makes sense. Danganronpa was always fictional. None of them were ever real. The reason the ending is contentious, though, is because it feels like a slap in the face to the fans who were invested, especially with factors like 'we keep making these because you keep buying them' and 'you want these people to suffer'. It's like a joke ending where the characters address the writing team, except it isn't a joke. I personally interpret it as V3 taking place in a world where Danganronpa is fiction, but V3 is itself fiction in our world. Like a TV show that has an in-universe TV show, or how GWENT from The Witcher got made into a real game. That said, some folks get WAY too heated over it. It is just a game, guys.

I think OSP's "It was all a dream" Trope talk does a good job talking about this. In summary, obviously it's all fictional, but we choose to invest ourselves and make our brain feel like it's real, so then when the author/ creator says in universe that it was all fake there's a bit of a slap to it since we'd spent however long we were invested willfully ignoring that and trusting the author.

@@JayTorin it's not even close to "it was all a dream" "it was all a dream" is cheap writing to easily discredit everything written before it, "previous games being fictional" is the opposite when it directly ties to its storyline it explains why it lead to fake memory implants which is the characters main source of despair in DRV3 (like DR1 being the apocalypse and DR2 them being the actual bad guys) it also ties to the core theme being truth vs lie instead of hope vs despair it also asks the existential question "does being fictional (memories) or not even matter" it also creates despair in players (and evidently a lot of people couldnt handle that) and cherry on top, it's a unique one of a kind ending that can be only done in a video game

The message of V3 is simple: Fiction, although constructed by humans with no reality behind it, still has effects on the real world. Narrative is one of the most powerful forces in any humans lives. Religion is narrative; politics is narrative; your own identity is a narrative you are telling yourself. The characters break through and ESCAPE the '4th wall' at the end. It's a journey many characters succeed at, but V3 just brings explicit attention to it. After all, you are watching a video or reading a comment about V3 RIGHT NOW, therefore you have been effected.

I wouldn't say Danganronpa is all fake. Kodaka has said that V3 takes place in a different universe, meaning, both danganronpa universes exists. So, while everything is fictional in one universe, the V3 universe, that stuff actually happened in the mainline Danganronpa universe. So, it's not "all the games aren't real in Canon and everything was meaningless" but instead "in this *specific universe* this story was made as a fictional story"... if that makes sense?
