Dear Crafsman, My friends and I are working on a project in our Junior English class about being a solutionary and fixing the problems of our state. We live in Hawaii so the problem we chose was cleaning liter and microplastics from our beaches, but I was wondering if there’s a way that someone could reuse the plastic and make it into a line of jewelry or figurines. Something similar to your Wood and Resin jewelry video. It would mean the world to me if you made a video about this topic and I will credit your video in our project. Thank you for reading and I hope your voice gets better, and keep on steady craftin’. (idk why I made this KZbin comment so formal I just thought it looked nice)

Hey James! I like that idea! When I was looking into injection molding machines, they advertised being able to accept melted plastic from bottles and similar, usually-discarded items. That seems like a win-win to me. If I ever get an injection molding machine, I’ll want to try that. But for now, I had to at least mention the possibility to you. :)

Thanks Crafsman! I appreciate you mentioning it and I look forward to what you’re gonna do in the future.

@@jamesa151 Search "Precious Plastic" on Google/KZbin and davehakkens on KZbin. I also live in Hawaii, specifically Maui. Been acquiring capable manufacturing technology like a cnc router, resin and filament 3d printers, pneumatic tapping arm, etc., also built a workshop late last year. One of my focuses is sustainability, I'll be building and working towards being able to take in used plastics, separate, and than turn into end use products using desktop plastic injection or make large sheets or blocks that can be milled into other products or used as is in the form of sheets for building basically anything. I'm working on building kits for assembling lithium cells into large batteries for homes, EVs/ebikes, and portable power applications. Would be great if plastics in those kits was reclaimed used plastic sourced locally.

Check out Oceans 4. I think that’s the name. They repurpose ocean plastic into bracelets and sell them to further ocean cleanup. Also check out Lilly’s plastic pickup on social media. She’s in Europe but well known for her efforts on littering. She may have tips for you. I’m behind you 💯% for solutions to this major problem. I’m on north east coast but I know Hawaii is experiencing some bad ocean debris wash up.

Also, lots of shows and videos are just too much for him - he gets way overstimulated and then gets upset and acts out. Your videos don’t have that effect on him. He snuggled up with me and watched this entire video. He had lots of comments and questions, but he loved it. Welding - Melts parent metals together Soldering - Joining material (filler) melts below 450º C, does not melt parent metals Brazing - Joining material melts above 450º C, does not melt parent metals
@danw51864 жыл бұрын
This is pretty much correct except I don't know where the temp cutoff for solder at 450 C comes from. My hard silver solders for jewelry flows at 788 C and easy solder at 718 C, Is the 450 temp for plumbing solder? I wonder if this definition is for ferrous metals.
@wolfman54944 жыл бұрын
@@danw5186 They're used fairly interchangeably and are essentially the same process. I'm going off the American Welding Society definition. Reading further it, it used to be 800F or 420C because it was between the melting points of zinc and aluminum. In favor of going metric, everybody agreed on 450C. Regardless, they pulled the number out of thin air for convenience. vacaero(dot)com/information-resources/vacuum-brazing-with-dan-kay/1139-brazing-questions-part-1.html www.aws(dot)org/resources/detail/air-fuel-or-oxy-fuel-for-soldering-and-brazing
@danw51864 жыл бұрын
@@wolfman5494 Yes I would say that is true about the temperature being kind of random. I generally consider it to be brazing when I am joining ferrous metals and soldering when I am joining non ferrous metals even though I am sometimes using silver solder on steel.
