I hated it for the longest time because I had the "Batman should always be dark and serious" mindset. I eventually watched the old Adam West Batman show and fell in love with how silly and campy that was. So I rewatched this movie and while I definitely don't think it's a good movie, it is a fun movie.

I liked everything but the costumes, not counting Ivy's. The switch with Fries going from Pungeon Master to tragic villain I've grown to like, especially when the former was passed on to him in The Batman and IT WORKED

Hollywood learned the wrong lesson from this movie and the Nolan trilogy. The goal should be to bring the character in his entirety to life, embracing campiness but also keeping it grounded. Batman is a mix of both. A true a balance is what is needed. He's a character that has appeal to adults and kids. Directors should be trying to bring the character to life in a way that both know the character. Like Raimi was able to do with Spiderman.

I like this movie too. I like the more serious underlying story here, freeze trying to save Nora, the theme of trust. Bruce and Alfred scenes. Ivy messing with Nora. All that kind of stuff. People just tend to ignore it or forget it. I don’t see this movie as so bad it’s good, I see it as unironically good.

This movie was my first exposure to Batman, so it will always have a special place in my heart. I've come to appreciate it so much more, especially because we may never get campy Batman ever again. And it works great as a companion to Batman: Brave and the Bold. Fully embracing campiness.

It makes a campy trilogy with the 60s Batman show.

This movie was pure insanity! Even growing up in the mid 2000's, I grew up watching the 1960s Batman movie and enjoying how cheeky it was. Going from watching that to Batman & Robin was a very welcome change, since it had the same cheesy spirit I enjoyed a lot.

Thank you so much for this retrospective. I love Batman and Robin. It’s nice to hear a good review of this movie! It gets way too much bashing online. I’m very new to this channel but so far your content is amazing. I look forward to seeing more. A video all about Brave and the Bold would also be fantastic. Or please consider a video on the Legion of Superheroes cartoon. I feel like no one ever talks about that series!

If you want a campy Batman movie, I highly recommend Batman Ninja. One of the best campy Batman experiences you will ever have. I’d also recommend the Return of the Caped Crusader movies where Adam West reprises his role as the 60’s Batman. If you want something a bit darker but different, I highly recommend Justice League: Gods and Monsters. An alternate universe story where Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman are reimagined as antiheroes

I disagree about Chris O'Donnell. Having an actor in his late 20's to play a character that suppose to be a teenager was not a great idea and makes Dick Grayson, in many of his scenes, come off more like a man child who never grow up rather than young man going through emotional pain.
@MBGamesHD2 ай бұрын
Playing devil's advocate here but wouldn't seeing a little kid beating up grown men kind of put you off the movie? For me, I think they should make Dick Nightwing in the modern movies. It's been a LONG time since he's been Robin in the comics anyways and everyone's familiar with his origin as much as they are with Superman, Spider-Man and Batman's origins
@alexandrefrauches1322 ай бұрын
@@MBGamesHD They didn't need to have Dick Grayson as kid in forever. This could all have been avoid if they got an actor in his 18's or 20's, someone who look more like an teenager rather than an clear 25/30's year old guy like O'Donnell.

Being fantastical is fine, even preferrable for comic books properties but Batman & Robin was bad representation for DC and super heroes as a whole because it was such a departure from what the characters are in the source material.

I don’t like this movie as a Batman story, but I just think it’s pure dumb fun! 😂🤣
@brandonspain123452 ай бұрын
I disagree. The first 30 and 40 minutes makes you think it is so-bad-it's-good, but because it is over 2 hours long, the problem is that at some point, the jokes just stops being funny. And don't you DARE say it's like the Adam West show because unlike B&R, the 60s show knew how to appeal to kids AND adults because it was a comedy show. Batman trying to get rid of the bomb is still iconic, unironically. This movie isn't campy, it's just corny and not in a fun way like Sam Raimi's Spider-Man. I understand there have to be different versions of a character that might not be for me, and I do agree there's room for a lighter Batman for kids, but it's connected to the Tim Burton movies which had nightmarish images that this film suffered from the same way Superman died in 1987 after being a joke. If you want a camper Batman, fine but do a remake instead. Don't try to pawn your awful ideas as canon with good movies. The camp elements don't blend with the other films in the series, and because the last 3 films set up certain expectations for the audience, it was just a slap in the face. It doesn't feel organic within the structure of the plot or characters. So I do think even if you're a fan of Schumacher's previous installment, Batman Forever, this is still a great bowl of WTF. Idk who this movie is made for. Some of this is played too straight, and a lot of the humor undermines the stuff you're supposed to connect to. And that's the biggest issue with the MCU movies, just have the courage to be sincere, don't try to act like you're above all of it by immediately cracking a lame joke. Put yourself out there, earn the moment, and don't undercut it because you're afraid of sincerity isn't cool. This movie has that example at the end with Batman talking to Mr Freeze and showed us a different side of Batman that we don't see enough of in these movies. He's not dropping someone off the roof or blowing them up, he's actually being civil to this monster with a hidden humanity and is Freeze's redemption. And then they immediately deflate those emotions with the dumbest fucking joke! ("Take two of these and call me in the morning." Get it!?! Cause Batman called him doctor!?!) it's like if you had the ending of Jerry Maguire ending with a loud fart. WTF would you do that!?! So tonally, the movie can't even reconcile all the stuff it's failing to juggle. The tone of Batman is valid but not all at once. And the opposite happened with Batman V Superman that it was so dark and edgy that WB reacted with the Josstice League.
