Small thing at 50 minutes. Superboy isn't the one that punched out the universe. That superboy prime (difrente character think like the robins). Short versions of his backstory he comes from a wourld like our where superheros are just comic and awoke his powers in a costume party where he was dressed in a superman's costume then met golden age superman's and um.....was bassicly immediately thrown into Vietnam😅 (crisis of infinite earths). His whole universe was destroyed so since then he's a golden age fan mad that his wourld and others had to be sacrified for this new morally gray wourld were "hero's arint heros" to quote him. Also yes him and superboy meet and superboy prime constantly just backhands him lol (so ya superboy is still the weacker kriptonian dont worry)

15:15 because it has been a while and only in the last couple of years since i've watched clone wars, but clone wars kinda did something similiar with framing ahsoka, the jedi abandoning her and her not wanting to come back to the temple only a year later from this. EMH came first with it shown on screen. man i love EMH so much

I mean, the initial Black Suit was just a black suit. It didn't change Peter in any way, just gave him a suit that can take any form and also gave him unlimited webs, basically the ultimate time and money saver for Spider-Man. Much later on, it started swinging around the city in Peter's body, but it didn't do anything Spider-Man wouldn't do. Peter got really spooked by it, then got rid of it, but in the bell tower Peter was also affected by sound vibrations to the point he could have died. The Black Suit pulled him out to safety, fell on Eddie Brock, got infected by his hatred for Spider-Man and turned into Venom. The rest is history. Point is, Black Suit's original portrayal was in no way villainous. Peter overreacted, though understandably so, who wouldn't be terrified of someone taking control of their body, even if without malicious intentions? Not that I disliked the Spectacular Spider-Man's portrayal of it. The whole series was great, and that arc was especially so. It's just a shame that everyone considers Venom an evil black goo that always tries to corrupt Peter when it really wasn't like that in the beginning, but only became like that in the movie and all the animated series.

Static is a shockingly good cartoon. I didn’t know it was part of DC until Superman showed up in one episode. Fantastically handled so many issues from gang violence, mental health, dyslexia, and school shootings. Great show to watch as a kid.

Static was always a progressive show. But this episode made me cry as a kid. My wife was often homeless when she was growing up, moving from place to place, never really having a solid foundation or a reliable home to stay. Sometimes she'd be living in hotels, sometimes she'd be staying at some stranger's home, but that lack of security is something that eats at you. This video essay reminded me of so many of the stories she's told me over the years of what it was like for her. And this episode was something that really cut through to the soul of anyone who watched it. Static Shock was a truly influential piece of media on me when I was a kid. I really appreciate how you cover this underrated gem of my childhood. Happy Holidays and I hope to see more quality content like this here on your channel.

21:17 I have the same issue in harry potter and the goblet of fire. In the book its stated clear as day that victor crumb is 18 years old. Hermione is in the same year as Harry, they're both 15... yeah theres several moment in the book where the two go off alone together and even if all they do is kiss (which is implied in a later book) its still disgusting. (My headcannon is that victor gets blown in half by a death eater at the wedding in the deathly hallows.)

I wish there were more outlets around where I live to help out, I live in a small town where there’s not to many homeless people thankfully. Sad part is majority of the homeless around me are drug addicts as we have a major drug problem in a specific area near where I live and sadly many of them don’t want help

You mentioning how you destroyed the disk from overuse reminded me how I destroyed the disk of one of my favorite games: Bust-a-Groove because of how much I played it. The game still worked, but most of the songs would cut out part way through (except for Shorty's for some reason). That doesn't seem that bad until you realize it's a rhythm game where the rhythm is tied to the beat of the song playing, haha.

Slightly off topic, but I've seen a lot of people try to say that Ben Affleck's Batman is a perfect adaptation of Frank Miller's iteration of the character from "The Dark Knight Returns", and I've never understood that argument. While that book's version of Batman is older and more cynical, there was also still a part of what he was when he was younger within him. I think back to the scene in the back half of the story where he snaps a gun in half and calls it a coward's weapon. That book's version of Batman still cared and still understood why he does what he does. Ben Affleck's Batman was nothing more than a shell of his former self to the point where he no longer has a no killing rule. He even refers to himself as being dead inside during the last nightmare scene in Zack Snyder's Justice League. He's stopped caring about making Gotham a better place and has become nothing more than the Punisher in a cape and cowl.

Static is one of my favorite superheroes, so it is very cool to see a video about him :). I agree. I too like it when cartoons present different cultural celebrations too :). Excellent points. You're right that homeless individuals are looked down upon, ignored, and seen negatively - and that our society doesn't do much to address homelessness (I know I myself have ignored homeless individuals before, so I can relate to what you said also about how we can do much more). Static Shock definitely does a great job tackling real-life issues. Static/Virgil had a great character arc in this episode. I was heartbroken by Permafrost/Maureen's story. And, you're right, the simplistic criticism of telling homeless individuals to 'just get a job' is ignorant and overly simplistic. Our social welfare systems are inadequate and you're spot on that our fortunes could quickly change here in the U.S. (as you said, a health crisis could cause someone to lose their job and then their home). I've spoken with friends in Europe and it's so different there. Things aren't perfect there, but the differences (especially with healthcare) are quite stark. Compassion and empathy are two of Static's best traits. :) It's why he's one of my favorite superheroes. I like how he helped Maureen :). The writers did a great job. I didn't see the notes that the production staff wrote, but I like how they approached the issues. Good point about how homeless individuals are treated in New York and other cities. I agree that cities should build more housing instead of displacing them (and doing nothing to address their needs). Your video is great and I agree with what you said. Take care.

Maybe its off topic, but "rounding up to the dollar" when you check out at, for example, walgreens, gives the company a tax benefit because that gets put under their umbrella for the bill. So just give a buck to a homeless person instead.

I think it's evidenced that MJ knows Peter is Spider-Man. She never grills him for his disappearances or attacks him, she waits for him at the dance, she's the first to compliment him on his halloween costume, and takes the chance to tell him he looks good in the suit- probably the only chance she'll get unless he tells her his secret- and especially here on the date with Eddie, where she chooses to not take Eddie's accusations of Peter that night to heart, but instead defends him, and specifically says that Peter "may not be perfect, but he's *twice* the man you'll ever be." Hinting at his double life. I think she knew he was Spider-Man and probably knew since the night he went after Ben's killer. Like in the comics.

This video is well put together. The pause you put for Eddie was very jarring though. I don't agree with your take. They are all in the same peer group and you threw hypocrisy in it when you said it'd be ok if was gwen because they knew each other prior. Why would that make the age difference ok? In extreme cases, don't we call that grooming? Quit it. A freshman in college talking to a girl literally around his age is nothing to even discuss.

People don't talk enough about how the 90s series influence spiderman as a character, 90s series is what introduced the symbiote making peter more agressive, it introduced the spiderverse, it gave us easily the best version of FIsk. There's more that I can't think of off the top of my head.
