@@derekspringer6448the engine being exposed to colder Temps when parked outside vs climate controlled garage creates more condensation inside the engine while warming up and cooling off which is caught in the catch can instead of mixing in with your oil/building up in pcv system. First thing I highly recommend is a Catch-Can for the SHO. After all the work cleaning the heads. On top of being Direct injection and a twin turbo, A Catch-Can will keep it clean as whistle for a long long time, no more Carbon buildup. Moroso make's an excellent one. It has a drain valve so the can doesn't even have to be removed.

be ready for the 2 piece spark plugs thatre notorious for breaking off half into the head. Also make sure you check on the cam phasers as well as if the timing chain tensioners are not blown out (they have an O-ring that blows out as they are pressurized with oil). Aside from that the 3V's are very solid. While you're in there check your roller followers as the center rollers bearings wollar out and then eventually totally fail (also oil pressure based, so any other oil issues like the tensioners, VCT solenoid, etc...can dominoe effect). pypes exhaust are a nice touch and doesnt drone - used to road trip mine 2000 miles at a time regularly.

Yes, I totally want to see a PAPA D Buick video. Perhaps even a series!!! I would like to see a built transmission with a quicker shift and a perhaps different gearing. Hook his car up!! Get his dry ice cleaned - spray undercoating, get his dream wheels - update the exhaust with a switch for exhaust to go straight out.

I bought a 95 Standard SHO at auction in Edmonton. Running rough I drove it home popped the hood and was shocked to see a Yamaha Motor! Changed spark plugs and wow!

I have a buddy who got an 86 Ford Escort GT from the back lot of a dealer. Whoever had it loved it but did not know how to maintain it and had no money. The interior and body were in great shape. Far better than usual for that year, Mustang, Murker, Escort. The tiny motor was hashed though. At the same time he found an 91 Torous SHO that was totalled. He moved the motor, Trans, ecus, and many other parts motor related from the engine bay. He ended up with a beautiful little Escort GT/SHO to go to cars and coffee in it.

A little more boost and a bit of turbo/blow off valve action and it’s golden.

Trick I used to use back before walnut blasters were easy to get, grab you a bundle of zipties, cut the heads of the them off, and put some heat shrink around the bundle. Chuck in your drill and go to town. It won’t scratch anything and can get the backside of the valves too.

2014 SHO owner. +1 to the catch can, lots of good brands, I went with UPR and love it. If you want to keep your PTU alive a little longer, change out the oil in it for red line shock proof gear oil. It's pricey, but worth it. Add it in, run it for some miles, then change it out. Their oil is thinner, and will removed some of the burnt on gunk you've definitely got built up in the housing. Last, transform the way the car stands and handles by swapping out the stock springs for a set of H and R springs, gets rid of the rake/butt in the air the car has, and decent shocks, dramatically improves turn in response, with sacrificing a lot of comfort, keeps the car very streetable. I live in New England where the roads are crap, and the ride is still fairly smooth. Last, consider swapping out the trans mount for a solid trans mount, makes the shifting under load feel like a legit sports car, will help with your 1st into 2nd gear loss of speed, shaves time off the 0-60.

I just picked up my first legit street car project. 97 Thunderbird with only 138,000 miles for $2100. In great condition! Has the 4.6 and the only thing that was wrong with it within the day that I got it was the EGR valve. Fixed it easy and It runs beautifully and it was owned by an elderly person before. I just gotta figure out what I can do for performance mods but your channels given me the inspiration to look for the oddball one off cars that weren’t that super popular And make something of it.

Man, just when you think I couldn’t be more into this channel, you buy a SHO. I’ve had two SHOs, one Gen 1 and one Gen 2. Both manuals. (I really miss my Gen 2) I haven’t even seen this episode yet, but it gets an immediate thumbs up. Can’t wait to see what you do with this one!

When we got my wife's SHO, it had a JLT catch-can installed. No CELs but a slight shudder under hard acceleration and a severe power drop after 130mph. Plugs were out to .042, replaced plugs and made sure they were properly gapped. Shudder gone, she pulls hard all the way to the 140mph speed limiter. After driving for 15k, (88k on odo) decided to service the PTU, the fluid that came out looked like maple syrup. Apparently, the PO loved her!

Alex I had a 2015 and loved it. I had it tuned on E30 with careless down pipes, exhaust, and upgraded intercooler. Car ran low 12s consistently and daily driven. Look at Gearhead tuning in Texas for tuning etc.

55:38 At the very least, I'd do 3 things: 1. Get some lowering springs or coilovers to lower the SHO a little bit and get rid of that rake. 2. Get some wheel spacers if you're gonna keep the stock wheels on it. 3. De-chrome the car with either black spray paint, Plasti-Dip, or vinyl wrap. Other than that, I would go full bolt-on mods (cold air intake, full exhaust, etc.) with the car, along with an upgraded fuel system, and get an E85 tune.

If you ever have to retrieve a small foreign object from the spark plug well again. try using a powerful shop vac and some spare rubber hose the fits in the hole. Cobble together an adapter for the shop vac to accept the rubber hose and boom, no more greasy cotton swab song and dance

I save all my old oil bottles and leave them on their sides stored so the residual oil collects near the cap, when I have about 250 empty bottles I drain all the residuals and get about 1 gallon of new oil free, also this is the best kind of re-cycling

39:40 I'm so happy that the S.H.O intake shuffle still lives on. The gen1&2 had the most beautiful intake manifold with secondary butterfly valves. Needless to say it was a shuffle to get them back together after putting the Big Bore Butterflies in. You heard of the 2-step this was the 3rd.
