Thank you for the lecture and the interpretation of this love song; it's the first time I am introduced to Scottish lute music, and for that matter, Scottish music in general.

thank you, Rob, for the great music and the fascinating intro discussion on the modal options. i'm inclined, myself, to the c# as well - somehow sounds to my ear more "celtic" played that way.

Robert Wyss - Ha, I prefer the C natural for the same reasons :-) I'm pleased we don't all think and hear the same way. Thanks for your comments, Robert.

Hi Rob, great explanation of the possible modes to the music. I'm partial to the mixolydian half but loved hearing the difference in the modern harmonisation. Got chills at several points - what a beautiful piece! And yes, well played and thanks for sharing :)

Thanks, Oscar. It is indeed a beautiful piece. I find this period fascinating to study as well as play.

Thanks. Glad you like 17th-century Scottish lute music. Check out my new dedicated website: ScottishLute.com I record the audio separately: Rode NT4 into a Fostex FR2LE.

Hello, I've just got a 6 stringed lute. Can this piece be played on such a piece :)
@RobMacKillop19 жыл бұрын
Steven Mcknight Not as written. The tab is for an 11c lute. But you could perhaps make an arrangement.

Rob MacKillop could u recommend any old Renaissance or medieval songs that can be played on a German lute guitar :) brilliant playing by the way.
@RobMacKillop19 жыл бұрын
Steven Mcknight Thanks, Steven. To tune your German lute guitar like a lute, just turn the G down a semitone to F sharp. Then you can read the tablature as written, that is of course music for the 6c (six courses or pairs of strings) lute. The best tutor book for the 6c lute is by Andrea Damiani - search for it with a translation from Italian into English by Doc Rossi. Then you can download for free hundreds of pieces - just search for free lute tablature or tab.I hope that helps.
