Looks like a loose poorly compacted mudstone, probably quite carbonaceous or ferrous. I'd say Carboniferous, Westphalien to Namurian, 300-325ish Ma. It looks like it's coated in a freshwater calcium/magnesium carbonate deposit - essentially Lime scale. In derbyshire this is sourced from the calcium carbonate rich spring water from the older Carboniferous limestone that finds allsorts of fractures in the above rock to escape under pressure.

Maybe that bird on the button was an Egret. The round plate with the half-round square was a deadbolt lock backplate. In what imaginable context is all these coins thrown and left all around in the middle of nowhere? And you leave your orx behind, just driving off? Leaving it? Unconscionable.
@TheDukesOfDerbyshire2 жыл бұрын
Hi mate, coins are the most common thing to find with a metal detector. For thousands of years the only real work was in the agricultural sector, a lot of people worked the fields and also walked the footpaths for many centuries. Its very easy to lose a coin, even in this day and age you can sit on the floor and all the coins in your pocket can simply fall out. You get up and walk off and they are lost forever. I detect certain places where I know I can find coins - Hills, footpaths, close to towns etc. Maybe I left the ORX behind because there is a new detector now :) :) :)
