I always think it's great to ride parallel with another train. Today I'm driving train 2228 from Haarlem to Dordrecht, which means another chance for a parallel ride between Leiden and The Hague. How far are the works in Delft? Decoupling the rear trainset in Rotterdam and difficulty to be driving on time. Will you watch from start to finish? Enjoy watching!

Ik vind het altijd geweldig om tegelijk met een andere trein op te rijden. Vandaag rijd ik trein 2228 van Haarlem to Dordrecht en dat betekent dus weer kans op een parallelrit tussen Leiden en Den Haag. Hoe ver zijn de werkzaamheden in Delft? Splitsen in Rotterdam en steeds net niet op tijd. Kijk je weer mee van begin tot einde? Veel kijkplezier!

Dtc is toch de telegrafische stationsnaam verkorting voor Doetinchem? Hoe kan de verkorting voor Delft Campus dan ook Dtc zijn?

De telegrafische stationsnaam verkorting voor Delft Campus is Dtcp en NIET Dtc zoals bij 48:03 wordt vermeld. Ik heb het zelf maar even uitgezocht.

I spent a few months in Netherlands back in 2019 and was fascinated with its railways. Wonderful track condition everywhere, great speeds, interesting rolling stock, marvelous terminals (especially i loved Utrecht station), everything is so neat and cool. You enjoy riding trains in Netherlands. Wonderful country for a railroad fan. Greetings from Russia.

You will think different when you travel on a regular/daily base by train because of all the delays, canceled trains or strikes by the railroad employees.

@@SalMightyOne at first i wanted to mention it as an only negative side of Dutch railways, but then i thought to myself that that was nothing compared to German DB. In fact, most of delays i faced in Netherlands were german ice trains lol 😂

@@MrOvnours The strikes are bad but, the pressure on the personel is high. And coming december they are planning to increase the network with 1600 more trains running. And I don't know how that will work when there is ONE track between stations. Like from Den Helder to Schagen. A train every 15 minutes? I don't know about this.

I must have gone to Rotterdam Central back in the late 1970s, though I have no memory of it. I do remember noticing that the train driver was wearing a smart uniform, by contrast to what the British Rail drivers wore, which made them look like something the cat had dragged in.

Even correctie bij Dordrecht: daar rijdt Arriva niet meer, maar Qbuzz. En treinen Dordrecht - Geldermalsen v.v. zijn van series gewijzigd: nu verzorgt Qbuzz deze treindiensten als St 7100 tot Gorinchem en St 7200 het gehele traject, beide onder vlag van R-net.

Enjoyed a bit of nostalgia today. I worked in Wassenaar from 84-86. Some of those stations seemed familiar - but others clearly rebuilt since I moved on. Lovely job.

Dat parallel rijden is zeker mooi👍Vorig jaar nog gefilmd vanuit Virm naar Vlissingen met een Sng naast ons,wij waren toch sneller 😄Weer een mooie video🙂

Genoten van beelden Delft 44:00-48:00 nu met spoortunnel, zou wat zijn als iemand een treinmachinist ooit bovengronds gefilmd had toen het treinviaduct er nog was.

De ICM(M) is wat mij betreft nog steeds de meest comfortabele trein in NL. Hij schommelt soms een beetje, maar de vering lost dat fantastisch op. En nu blijkt hij nog snel ook :)

Hallo Cabview Holland Dutch Railway, ein tolles Video. Besonderes hat mir die Parallel Ausfahrt aus Leiden Central gefallen. Diesmal hat der VIRM gewonnen oder beide. Als ich die Parallelausfahrt gesehen, ist mir von Ihnen ein Video nur mit dem Intro eingefallen. Das war bei Sonnenaufgang von Amsterdam Zuid zur Bijlmer Arena. Zur rechten fuhr ein ICM in Richtung Duivendrecht nach Hilversum/Almere. Wünsche allseits gute Fahrt.

Ja dat energie zuinig/op tijd rijden gooi ik ook overboord als ik een race kan hebben op dat traject. Vooral leuk als je 'tegenstander' net te ver gaat en de ATB een remming dwingt.

Great video showing me what I am missing by not visiting the Netherlands! 🤭 Question: Throughout the video I noticed that the yellow signals and the red signals seemed to be almost the same color. A good example is at timestamp 1:00:35 at Rotterdam Centraal when the signal changes from red to green. You can see , from the REFLECTED color off the signal blinders, that the color is what we all expect. Any ideas? Thanks.

De ICM is vervelend bezig 😁. Eerst rijdt hij voor U uit en later haalt U hem in. En in Laan van NOI rijdt hij U weer voorbij. Hij weet ook niet wat hij wil.

I can imagine it being stressed in driver training to pay strict attention to your own path and signals whether you parallel a highway or another train. Still, it makes for interesting running.

Ik kon vaak niet in slaap komen maar ik heb de oplossing, PC niet afsluiten maar playlist cabview aan. Het geluid op de achtergrond is sowiezo rustgevend. Beter dan een screensaver over tropische eilanden ofzo.

Bedankt voor weer een mooie rit meester. Toch dit keer een vraag. Hoe maken jullie de ramen van een trein ijsvrij? En tussen station Zwijndrecht en de brug naar Dordrecht zie je een soort weg op/tussen het spoor en ernaast. Daar zit een opgang voor werk en calamiteiten verkeer. Ook zit daar beneden een benzinestation ik heb daar 1,5 jaar gewerkt en we hadden geregeld verkeer voor het spoor op het terrein en een keer was het zo erg dat ik daar op een zondag aan het werk was en dat we zo ingebouwd waren dat er geen klanten het terrein opkonden maar ik moest wel open blijven. Toen ben ik zelfs even daar op het spoor geweest.

Hoi Danny, vervelend zoiets.. Ik heb nog nooit hoeven krabben :-) De cabines blijven blijkbaar warm genoeg op het opstelterrein. Anders hebben alle treinen elektrische ruitverwarming.

I was suprised that the 'Koploper' got the better of the VIRM units. I would have expected the newer stock to win!! Are the couplings on VIRM stock of the Scharfenberg variety? Did the 'trailing' unit terminate at Rotterdam or did it continue elsewhere? I enjoyed the ride. For those that aren't aware, the former 'main line' from Rotterdam to Hoek van Holland took travellers from the Netherlands to the British port of Harwich en route to London and beyond. I believe that the first sailings, in the early 20th century, were operated by the Great Eastern Railway and the relevant Dutch railway. On the British side, the London and North Eastern Railway took over operations on 1st January 1923.

I'm not surprised at all ;) The Koplopers probably have a lower weight compared to the onboard motors, where at some point, the maximum motorpower you can put in a rather confined space, maxes out on IRM stock, which is significantly heavier due to the double-deck structure. Scharfenberg is, as far as I know, a rather common name given to basically every automatic coupling in the Netherlands, while in reality it's probably a brand-name of just a few companies that produce those couplers or even the name of the person that invented/patented it, while I think BSI is another name, with the couplers used on the DD-AR or DDM (or both, can't remember...) which is now DDZ stock. They all have their differences when it comes to the location of connection points for air hoses and junction boxes. 1934, 1946, 1954 and 1964 stock, U-stock and the Sprinters (Y-stock if I remember it right) all used the same coupling as far as I remember, with the electrical connections on top of the mechanical connection. The Koplopers were the first to have a different coupling, which was necessary to gain the much needed space for the automatic doors that would open upon coupling two trainsets to connect the gangways.

@@weeardguy Thanks for the info re-couplings. I didn't realise that in spite of some similarities, there are differences too! The trainspotters' book I have (which is from 1994!!) says Plan Y stock are indeed the 'Sprinters' from which the BR class 156 and 158 DMU's got their 'branding'.

@@philippenaluna2312 There are quite a lot of differences ;) Plan U, and all units before U-stock, had the coupler mounted lower than 1964 stock and all units after, as this was (than) the standard height. The first 1964 unit however, did have the coupler mounted at the same height as U-units in the beginning, but this was eventually changed. The weird thing is that 1964 stock can couple (mechanically) with Koplopers and IRM's, despite the great differences at especially the Koploper coupler. Pre-war and post-war diesel units can couple with post-war electric units, but only mechanically: the different driving-characteristics will inevitably lead to problems. In this case, the electric connector is fixed into position. For the rest, they couple like normal trains would.

I've been trying to figure out the distance signs on the NL railways for a bit. Are there two separate systems, one on the rectangular boards attached to the pylons (as at 0:14:09), and a second one on the circular boards (as at 0:14:14)? Both behave like distances, but they don't indicate the same values (here it's only a few hundred metres but I've seen cases where there is a much bigger difference and even going in the opposite direction).

Hi James! The round signs indicate the start of a railway crossing section, with the value of the location of that crossing. We need this information in case of a malfunction so we can approach it at the right speed. Also, if we want to stop due to a malfunction of the train, we try not to stop in this section. In principle, we have a square hectometre sign every 100 metres for position determination, but most are missing. When the Icm came into service with its high cab, they placed 500 metre signs at the catenary poles.

The circular boards indicate that, on passing, the train will automatically activate the level crossing at the indicated point (at 0:15:00). You can see the trackside equipment at those boards.

Dank voor de mooie video. Als reiziger is mijn ervaring dat VIRM een betrouwbaarder materieel is dan DDZ. Althans ik ben verhoudingsgewijs vaker met DDZ gestrand dan met VIRM. Is dat ook uw ervaring als mcn?

Great video of country I used to live in! I would bet it is better practice to avoid extended running beside another train. If either unit has a failure, two are compromised instead of one. When I drive the major highways in southwestern Ontario, Canada, I strongly avoid slowly passing a semitrailer rig or large propane tanker. We have had lots of stories about wheels coming off trucks, etc. If a train kicks up debris or has a worse accident, a nearby train would likely also suffer damage

I think it's not that much of a concern. Trains are much less likely to kick up debris because the surface they're running on is much smaller and set upward off the ground, plus even if they do, it probably will just bounce off the undercarriage of the train rather than getting sent anywhere else. Derailments are also very rare so the likelihood that a train will end up hitting another is very low, even if the driver were to be surprised by something and got distracted.

I think ALL win, Señor Cabview. When you are in love with your parallel ride, we are happy and in love too. This makes for an overall world-wide love-in, love-fest, or whatever you wanna call it. Sometimes though, on my cheap computer, I slip into a parallel dimension and have trouble returning to your video. In a lotta parallel dimensions they don't even speak English or Spanish, or put in subtitles and useful information. How is a viewer to know? Well, gracias por tu video. It was lovely. Wellicht weinig die zich realiseren hoe bijzonder dat is. Dergelijk lange Engelse wissels heeft alleen station Rotterdam aan de oostzijde van het station, of niet?

Leuke video meester. Vraag me wel af of Prorail ooit een spoorlijn maakt naar Vlissingen in een rechte lijn. Via Dordrecht is een beetje omrijden. Dus dan gaat de trein Na Schiedam Zuiderlijker en stopt hij in Brielle( Den Briel,Ouddorp,Zierikzee en Middelburg. Desnoods Zierikzee overslaan. Anders moet er een spoorbrug dan wel tunnel van 6km komen.

Een grote ronde VIRM tegen een slanke sportieve ICM. Niet echt een verrassing wie er uiteindelijk aan het langste eind trekt. Je hebt heel even van een voorsprong mogen genieten, maar ik denk dat dat kwam omdat de ICM moest afremmen voor die boog tussen Mariahoeve en NOI. Uiteindelijk kan er maar 1 de Koploper zijn, en bij NOI moest je het voor de tweede keer afleggen.

There is more to it but simply put: At this line these automatic block signals fall back to green like you noticed. Once another train is planned to enter the line between two not-automatic signals (appr. between The Hague and De Vink) they show red again.

I tried to locate the part you mention (I'm not going to sit through the whole video), but couldn't find it. My best guess is that it's a speed restriction before entering a tunnel. There's at least one tunnel in the Netherlands that is notorious for a strong ear-pop when entering at maximum line-speed, while lowering the speed to 100 km/h or so, lowers the discomfort.

I think this is because of the tunnel at the station of Delft, the pressure wave of the trains in the tunnel (they push the air in front of them in the tunnel with force towards the station hall), they caused the doors of the station hall (one level higher!) to open because of the pressure difference and the ceiling panels to dangle dangerously in the station hall. By lowering the speed of the train, the pressure wave is smaller and the problems don’t occur.

Strange how things like this are no problem in Kyiv at all (where the metrotrains basically are hugged by the tunnels, it's a really tight fit). But the doors to the station itself also have a strong spring to keep them shut...

A passenger at Delft station got its leg wounded when using a revolving door. It began spinning due to the pressure wave of a train entering the tunnel. The wave was also noticeable in the hall itself. The temporary speed limit will dissappear soon when ProRail has modified the ventilation system. It's apparently a lot of work. The temporary speed limit was introduced in 2014 or so and still active as seen in the video.

How prevalent are Dutch/English biligual announcements on the railway system in the Netherlands? I have noticed in Poland that Polish/English bilingual announcements appear at the Warsaw and Kraków train stations, as well as on the high-speed trains and a few regional trains in those two cities operated by local governments, but are absent in the rest of the country.

@@CabviewHolland It's been over a decade, but I used to go Enschede-Schiphol quite often due to a good bus connection. English announcements would definitely happen quite often on that one. I've also overheard it around the major Amsterdam stations as well. Of course, those might be courtesy announcements more-so than the company-prescribed standard, but it definitely wasn't limited to international trains.

@@CabviewHolland Grappig. Ik vind dat ook interessant als ik het kan zien. Wat ik ook doe is erg veel tellen. Dat is mijn OCD dwangstoornis. Portalen, treinen die ik zie terwijl ik mee mag rijden. Aantal rijtuigen in een trein. Zelfs hoeveel portalen het duurt voordat er een nieuwe draad komt. En ook het portalen tussen het S sein en het station. Hoe minder rustig ik ben hoe meer ik moet tellen. Ik kan het niet stoppen helaas. Wel word ik na een vervelende nacht snel rustig door mee te rijden met jou of jouw collega Meester Paul.

Hoe is het mogelijk dat je langzaam de koploper inhaalt? Ik zou aannemen dat beide treinen met dezelfde snelheid op dat rechte stuk spoor zou moeten rijden, dus dat na het acceleren de netto afstand min of meer gelijk blijft
