This is straight up dieselgate. So blatantly dishonest to be tracking accurately on test patterns. This was a deliberate design decision in the company. I had the same thought about Filmmaker mode. You can’t even say that a stricter certification would’ve caught it before this since they adjusted their PQ to the standard test patterns. If there is a verification test for Filmmaker mode then they would’ve just made a PQ to pass that test. Anyway, I hope this is at least a reminder how important it is to have independent journalism. Thanks again Vincent as always and it was very proper of you to make the distinction between Samsung Display and Visual. What a disappointment it turned out to be though. this is the same issue causing the price drop of the s22 in Korea. Samsung manipulates the coding to perform differently in test conditions than in actual use. on the phones, they throttle performance when not being run in benchmark tests. on the TV, they manipulate the light and color settings. I'm not surprised. Deceptive actions like these cannot happen on accident, and they cannot happen without direction and approval from the executive level. A company who's executives are directing deceitful actions in one product, will do it in all products. An true company mission statement is "get the best review and benchmark results, at all costs".

This is the info we need. I am a professional user, I now have another 60" tv off to the side to buy the C1(since I have one normal TV downstairs, one in my room and had one for monitor use)... I couldn't decide between the C1 and the Aorus 48" OLED monitor.... after doing copious research on their SRGB and ARGB color coverage I was dismayed to see a site like Rting said they were both under 100% and significantly different (ARGB around 89% for the Auros vs 75% for the C1....) but other sites said both where well above 100% for ARGB.... I ended up with the C1 for the features and price thinking it's good enough, and am glad I did, but thank god for people like you who go above and beyond, I could have easily gotten the S95B thinking I was getting a superior pro product despite knowing the C1's brightness for a monitor not 6 feet from my face was more than enough for my eyes.... In my mind this is reminiscent of Volkswagen emissions scandal and shows a clear lack of transparency for Samsung who know people like me exist and to sell more units intentionally mislead them, I don't want to start a flame war or tell people to get pitchforks... but this is very misleading, again, to say the least. If every review site was as effective as you I would have gotten an OLED a long time ago, and maybe even know the actual ARGB performance of my monitor(or of the A1 which rtings did not test as a monitor, perhaps I could have saved money since I have a 2080 Ti and don't game, i'm locked at 30Hz to use HDR due to bandwidth...lol)

You are the only reviewer so far (4/26) who tried *any* non-standard testing window sizes. I also thought the Samsung looked to bright and had washed out blacks. Like a bad HDR game that instead of increasing brightness/contrast, just increases 0 black to 100 and turns the dark to grey. I bought my last TV (my first 4k and first HDR) based on month's of reviews. I ended deciding I need an LED/LCD for brightness. Your Sony 930E review really helped. I still don't understand how beam forming works, but it's advantages over low count Array Dimming is amazing. Remember at the time of the Sony 930E the LG was the C7. I know it's old, but I never have it (or need it) over 25/50 backlight. I think later this year I will be upgrading to OLED for personal gaming/movie use and transition my previous to the living room. Hopefully, in 4-6 months even more reviews, tests, and examples from you and everyone else will help me decide between the G2, A95K, S95B, and C2. Considering the previous OLED panels were closer to reference than it was, I'm not sure where you got that idea.

Great video as always!!! There are so many misleading videos on KZbin about this TV. I know QD OLED is way better than previous OLED tech but people are saying Samsung OLED is 1000% better compared to LG and Sony is just a 🧢.
@carlcat2 жыл бұрын
I'm curious to see what Sony does with their QD OLED. Although Samsung's QD OLED is very bright and doesn't follow the director's intention, one has the option to dim it down or leave it alone and enjoy the extra pop. Not everyone's viewing conditions are the same and to have the option of pushing or dimming brightness is a great plus.

Thats a good point. I'm guessing if you live in a very very bright living room, that Samsung should shine. 🤷♂️

You are the best. You are incredible. You are the most valuable player. I regret not followed your advise to go with the Sony and buying the Samsung qn90A instead. Thanks for your hard work and congratulations on the discovery, it’s pretty clear Samsung does it on purpose and actually CHEAT on the calibration tests . I hope your video make some noise and force them to change it. Cheers!

This is just such a Samsung thing to do. It honestly does not surprise me one bit. Imagine having finally come up with the superior technology to LGs OLED panel just to butcher it this way.

Similar to what Samsung is doing for over a decade. In shops, Samsung TVs always show Samsung exclusive content, making it hard to compare and trying to woo customers. Once I saw real live footage on a Samsung compared to another TV next to it, my decision to never buy a Samsung TV was made. At the time there was a scene with a river and the Samsung had so many artifacts... Now what you are showing here shows significant parallels to the Diesel-Gate scandal, as the TV is trying to detect a test environment and applying different behaviour than in real live usage. But since noone is harmed, there wont be any consequences. But to me this is deceptional towards customers and a reason to reiterate my decision to never buy a Samsung TV.

Was waiting for your analysis just for the reasons you mentioned in the video. Accurate, quantitative measurements matter. But you went further and investigated in accuracy until you identified the real issue. Hat off Vincent. You are a true television analyst.

Great work Vincent! This is exactly why I never recommend Samsung for people. Who want accuracy. And this is also exactly why I want to see A95K vs A90J before we make a conclusion on how good QD Oled really is. I'm sure the A95K will win but from the "reviews" I have seen I could not imagine the quite accurate A90j and C1 (compared to referenced monitors in shootouts) are so bad vs the S95B. I was wondering if Samsung was boosting colors and brightness again even tho early measurements looked quite accurate. Vincent proves that is not the case. I agree with you. I don't want to trow away all the hard work of the color graders in the film studio's. I prefer images that look like the real world and not "improves" I'm also unhappy that film maker mode is so inaccurate what is the use then.... The whole idea was that it would give you a pure movie experience that comes close to reference.
@N0N01112 жыл бұрын
People should send Sony a clear email that they don't want the bamboozle that Samsung is pulling. And lets hope Sony still holds that high perfection standard when it comes to colors.
@kuxii_youtube2 жыл бұрын
If Filmmaker wasn't a ripoff, why would they include it on any shtty budget TV? They are not even close to accurate on the bottom of the lineups. Even higher end models Filmmaker mode is NOT accurate :/ But of course calibrators should get a new job if Filmmaker was accurate. Even Apple TV calibration and Samsungs 2022 lineups 10-15 min calibration is not accurate. It relies on a phones camera (which can also be a lower end model, not just Iphone13 and S22)
@ilusiil2 жыл бұрын
@@N0N0111 And why would anyone need to do that when Sony's intention is color accuracy, even when it results in raised blacks and/or subdued highlights on some of their TV models? Meanwhile Samsung has always strived for wow factor over all else, and this has been the case with all other TV technologies so why would anyone expect anything different with QD-OLED? If you want picture accuracy that is line with the director's intent Sony will certainly serve you better, but if wow factor is more suited to your preference Samsung is the way to go. It's pretty simple.

Go back and watch Vincent's A90J video again. It's far from creators intention, boosting near-blacks to avoid near-black gradiation. Dark scenes looks completely washed out, and there is no fix, the artifacts are caused by WOLED panels extra added white subpixel. The same white sub-pixel that causes color dilution at higher brightness when the panel needs to show high color volume. So let's not act like WRGB WOLED panels, are without serious flaws. 150 nits full-field peak brightness lmao, 2% window 750 nits peak brightness, .. laughable 🤣 Woled panels are not HDR rdy. Luckily, Samsung not tracking the EOTF has nothing to do with the QD-OLED panel itself. Samsung never tracks the EOTF 🤣
