There’s never been a time in our society… In the United States and now in Korea Where times have been so uncertain . (I’m sure this is in other countries also.) Prices are so high and they just keep going up -in all categories. Companies can just fire someone for no reason . Hard to find a new job -especially at the salary you were making. So much competition, and we are expected to achieve and achieve-like robots-and a lot of companies won’t give you the time off for personal self-if you take the time off, -then you get fired! Just so much stress - Panic attacks are worries that we don’t think we’re really worried about -and they usually come out of nowhere- Having a wonderful day and bam panic attack !! It takes a lot of courage to get help if you need it to figure out how to handle panic attacks .

Thank for the explaining what is happening in the work force in Korea. A lot of people equate money to success. Which is far from the truth. Success is walking in ur destiny and purpose and being fulfilling in it.A lot of people in working hard stressing themselves out for material gain envying others. Believing that their success is defined by car bags expensive clothes. I do pray that people will come to realize that God put his breath in ur body every morning and giving you his peace and having family is more important than anything else.

My mother in law is quite funny and she once said that when she was 16, 30 sounded so old. When she became 30 she realized that is still very young. 40 is old. Got to 40, realized it is still very young and so on. She is now a very young 75.

I cannot imagine a work life with just so few days off! That must be stressful, especially if there is ugly stress (such as having a micromanager) there. Watching from the USA. When my company was bought a few years ago, the work culture shifted down a similar route, losing people left and right due to a toxic work environment, not hiring new people, treating us employees like numbers, and unloading more work to fewer people who are still there. I felt the mental toll it took on me. I was lucky enough to be able to just say good bye to my work, and retired at a young age of 54, almost a year ago. All my career before was decent, with a good work culture, so I got lucky overall.

Such a shame that work/life balance is lacking so much in the corporate world. What is the point of earning more money if you're too sick to enjoy it?

I'm glad you're thinking about this. I hope more Koreans will come to this conclusion. Money gives you opportunities, but you shouldn't expect it to make you happy. Money and happiness don't go hand in hand. I also worry about the obsession with appearance. that is equally superficial and sad. I hope that this will normalize and people will live authentic simple lives with lots of love and caring.

I agree with you, i think this is a cultural problem. You said SK is such a materialistic society, people who work to buy the nicest and newest car available, to buy the most expensive luxury bags, to brag about themselves being rich being prosperous and successful, they are the ones more likely to suffer from their own life choices. South Korea is a beautiful country, there's plenty of wonderful people, koreans just... slow down you know, there is no reason at all to own expensive things, there is no gain in showing others how much money you make. Living a stressful life with "projects" and work to rush, just to buy expensive objects so you can brag about yourself, this will lead any person towards suffering and destruction. By living a simpler but meaningful life i can garantee you won't feel any panic attacks whatsoever. I hope younger generations come to realize that, if there's anyone who can change this reality, it is the youth.

Most industrialized nation workers suffer from panic/stress attacks, there is a constant push to increase productivity and living under that constant stress can be difficult. You are right money isn’t everything, and we only seem to appreciate health when we get older. We don’t have much choice however than to play this stress game, and yes a great deal of people are suffering in silence as they are afraid to take a leave of absence for fear of workplace retaliation or people think they are weak. Cheers.

I retired four years ago, but during my last ten years at work, I would periodically suffer anxiety attacks, and one time, had a full-blown panic attack. It was brought on by job related pressure. I wouldn’t wish a panic attack on anyone. They are awful.

This was a very good and interesting subject, I am retired now and live in the US. It seemed you were describing me when I was working everyday trying to provide for my family. And yes you are correct in saying money is everything as a employee, working for others will provide you a living but you will never get rich..lol. In most cases I should add. There are so many stresses that people have to deal with everyday. I think many of the younger generation are looking at what their parents went though and do not want to go that route anymore. I don't blame them and if I could have a redo I would not do it either. Thank you..🤔

There's also a saying that if one works much and well, a reward for all this from their bosses would usually be even more work (unless such person says no more). Tbh, I also had a period of life when I was working till late, and also at home with my laptop during weekends. But the price for such life is too high, so it's generally not worth it.

Thank you for your video. What is happening on a biological level is that under constant high stress and performance anxiety the adrenal glands are being overtaxed and eventually that leads to not just psychological burnout but also some form of health collapse. Executives may be living in luxury, but their bodies don't know that if they are under constant stress. It's not worth it. 😢

Very sad that the hamster wheel of stuff and things at the expense of life and health. Over worked and stressed does not increase production. Studies show it decreases efficiencies, innovation and more. Sad about the label seeking as we see here a term called "Keeping up with the Jone's" where often its a fake front and they are carrying a lot of debt that in-turn enslaves them adding more pressure to a already stressed life. My immigrant grandma used to tell me, "Live beneath your means" and save for a rainy day... Glad I did :)

The "work until you drop" mentality just so you can buy some status symbol item is twisted and unhealthy. And the executives that basically force the average worker to work their lives away with threats of not getting promoted is horrible. Korea is not alone in this mentality, unfortunately. It's no wonder people are getting sick.

Only two weeks of holiday a year absolutely not enough; how can you work eleven and a half month without rest ? Here (Québec, Canada), after three years of continuous service in a company the employer has the obligation to grant three weeks of paid annual vacation plus eight more days of leave (the 1st of January, Canada Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, etc.). After more than three years of continuous service in a company, the employee has a right to a compensation of 8% or four weeks of paid holiday including three continuous weeks. And, of course, we work five days a week. Some persons can choose to work six days, but it is not an obligation.

I worked 12 hours a day, sometimes six days a week, in a Korean corporation. Other staff in the company worked more hours than me and they resented that I always left the office earlier than them. I told them that I simply didn't have anymore stamina to work any longer hours, and they just sneered at me when I said that. Korean corporate culture is really tough.
@soggymoggytravelsАй бұрын
@Lola-kn4qf In practice, it's generally up to employers ad to whether they offer any overtime compensation. In most cases, not.

Here in Québec, Canada, I have never heard of panic attacks at work. What exactly causes these attacks ? I do not understand. Of course, we are a people who loves to sing and dance, we love feasts and parties and we love to have fun. That does not mean that we are not serious about our work, but we appreciate our leisure time, especially going to the countryside in summer, We do appreciate spring and summer and autumn because we also have around five months of cold and snow. But winter can be fun too : we ski and we skate and children love to slide on snow slopes. Of course, when we are getting older, we also like to travel to the south during winter to spend time on beaches near the sea.
@MayaTheDecemberGirlАй бұрын
I think that such panick attacks are caused by long-lasting, severe stress, no ability to rest (while working such long hours), mobbing etc. And it may cause also many other mental problems, like severe depression, neurosis and other serious mental health problems. So sound work-life balance is just essential in life.

Of course we have in the Netherlands worcoholics too. Having a job with lots of hours and for the money. But I believe they love their job. We are more realistic, working for Prada and other famous brands is a dead end. We in the Netherlands say, we can't take it to our grave. The memories at the end of your life are not about your work but how you enjoyed your life.
