For me, they're parallel universes, not the same. Ramona in the anime comes across as better, more human. A loyal, yet distant friend. Ramona in the film to me came across as an idea, as opposed to a person. That girl you look at from a distance and looks cool, Batman-like. But you never really get near enough to talk to her.

Yeah. The anime doesn't portray the exes in a particularly flattering light (most of them are goofy caricatures of themselves), but they did Roxie justice by not making light of her pain. In comparison the book was pretty mean to her, Scott just cuts her in half with his love sword. That's, uh, not a euphemism. Just in case someone hasn't seen the film or read the books. The power of love manifests as a sword.
