Exactly! We wouldn’t like Steven either if we saw HIS development in reverse. Imagine him turning into the whiny little kid he was in the first season - begging to go on missions, complaining when he didn’t get what he wanted, being childish in general, seeming to want to be important no matter what was happening, and causing almost every problem that happened in the episode. Of COURSE we would dislike him - we’d dislike any of the characters if we saw their arcs in reverse. Pink honestly doesn’t deserve the hate, at least not the part of her that became Rose Quartz.

I think a lot of the fans forget that Pink was isolated and abused, she genuinely didn't know how to be "good" or make the best choices because the only reference she had for behavior back then was the Diamonds. She did awful, awful things but it's not like she had anyone to correct her behavior with the acception (partially) of Greg. The Gems basically deifed her - they weren't gonna call her out on her behavior, not when she was their saviour and they themselves were just beginning to figure who they were. Greg was the only person (as far as we know) who ever talked to Rose about how her actions affected him negetively. She, just liked Steven, needed a therapist but fans ignore that.

It was a whole step for White to admit that she was wrong in the first place. Unlike what most people are saying, she is far from redeemed. For millennia she was the leader of a galactic empire, with her ideology of perfection. I feel like in this aspect we still don't understand White Diamond. She was tyrannical, but not purposely evil. She truly believed that the way the Gem-empire was going was for the greater good, but why? I feel like such an origin story of White's character would be essential to understanding her and her motivations, but also Gem society as a whole since it was moulded around White's perfection ideology.

What happened to Steven in SU Future was exactly what happened with Pink. All of Steven’s bad actions in Future were because of his Trauma and Abuse, so were Pink’s! I agree with you and also, think of it this way, would you say this to a drug addict or someone who can’t help how they are/were raised. When a issue goes on in a household, like for example: parents fighting, this can do damage on a child psyche, effecting them (of course) negatively, so you can’t say Pink isn’t excused for the things she’s done, as she has a child like mindset. If you say that Pink isn’t excuse, what you’re really saying is neither is the diamonds or spinel, as they were redeemed too quickly and maybe if they got some SUF episodes on their redemption, maybe it would be a bit more realistic and show that, sure, you made bad choices and you’re trying to fix it, but that doesn’t make you a bad person, it makes you human, cuz at the end of day, we’re not angels and we’re not perfect.

Most people in her life (the diamonds) didn't notice or care that they were causing her distress. When somebody has anger issues, they're supposed to get help, not be avoided because they have them. I'm happy this video exists. As someone with PTSD I loved that they brought that into the show. I saw the signs in the very first episode. It honestly is the best show to bring this to light. We were taught all about the different kinds of love. At the end of Steven Universe we were shown trauma and it just felt... Swept under the rug? Like they went poof at the end. It didn't feel real or organic. But this? THIS is real. We need to stop saying that it's ruined the show. Were they upset they didn't get the Steven Universe Future that they wanted? The fact is that it all just got too real for some people. When emotions get real it hurts and we wanna push it away. Spinel was right in this clip. She's no saint. What she did was awful. She knew Steven wasn't Pink but went to take it out on him anyway. She tried to kill the planet. She took his friends memories so he'd die alone with no one to turn to. The Diamonds are still not redeemed but they're TRYING to be better and that's all anyone can do. TRY. It's sad but that's life. You can try all you want, but if you did something bad it's not going to stop being bad just because you try. But you need to look at yourself, like Pink/Steven/Diamonds did, and say, "I might have done this but this doesn't define me. I have to CHOOSE to be better. I make mistakes. I'm capable, like anyone else, to do evil. But that won't stop me from doing better with myself." I like this message. I like the realism.

I read somewhere that Rose/Pink is introduced as a reverse arc sort of deal, where we see her development and character in reverse. Like we are first introduced to her as a kind and loving leader but then we go on to know that she was a Diamond who wanted to, understandably, escape from her oppressive home and save the life on Earth. My feelings for her as a person are mixed, but dang is she such an interesting character!

It was kind of the point, really; how absolutely childish and tone-deaf and selfish it is to be so swallowed by guilt when you've hurt somebody else, instead of _doing something_ about that hurt you've caused. Regardless of how earnest your feelings towards yourself are, this is what people see you doing, because this is what it is. It's not fixing things. It's making things about _you_ again. Your brain is being dumb and you have to fight it. The concept when it comes up in race relations is called "White Guilt".

Sure, her "rebellion" sparked because she, like Steven, was a whiny spoiled child who was mistreated by the other Diamonds, but in the end even if she proved to be a good "leader", her mistakes outweigh her accomplishments. -She did save the Earth, but only temporarily since the Diamonds planted the Cluster to destroy it. -She caused an entire war over one little planet which got thousands of Gems shattered and reused for torturous experiments if not the Cluster itself. -She faked her own death thinking it would end the war, only to doom all the Gems on Earth to corruption. -She lived under an alter-ego, lying to everyone she knew and the only person who knew the truth couldn't say anything about it. -Even if she gave up her life to let Steven be born to live a "happy" one, he was still forced to face all of her unsolved problems including the wrath of Homeworld which traumatized him and led to his monstrous transformation. I know she didn't have Steven just to make him deal with her mistakes, but with everything she did, she was just very irresponsible and just didn't think things out accordingly. As great as she was as Rose Quartz, she's still a liar and a HORRIBLE mother. Edit: And that's not including all of her other mistakes Steven was forced to face like Spinel and other stuff.

I think Rose becoming Steven parallels Pink becoming Rose, except with less childish intentions. I think she knew that the gems would catch on eventually, and by becoming Steven, she could leave her past behind and create a new life that wasn’t burdened by her mistakes for the betterment of everyone around her. I don’t think she knew that Steven would be forced to clean her messes, or that the gems would have such a hard time regrouping in her absence (this is shown in the other Diamonds too). Her lack of empathy kept her foresight limited in that respect. She probably just thought her problems would go away if she went away, like when she abandoned Spinel. In her mind, she was committing a selfless act, not cowardice.

I’m so sorry to all the Pink Diamond haters but she’s one of my favourite characters in Steven Universe, she’s so complex and she suffered years of abuse and never got the chance to really heal and I love her character and wish we saw her character development in chronological order so she wouldn’t be so hated :(
